I felt her eyes scanning me from head to toe, and her words stung. "I didn't know you downgrade your preference, Dante. How come you replace me with a rankless poor wolf?" Her words echoed in my mind, and I felt my face flush with embarrassment and anger. I knew that Donovan Rossi, Dante's Alpha, had invited her over, but I was still angry that he hadn't told me beforehand.

I tried to keep my composure. I could feel the tension between them, and I didn't know what to do. I couldn't swallow my food anymore, and I just pushed my plate away, feeling nauseous.
