Chapter Four

He touched it and looked at his sister. He started to give it some thoughts. He looked back at the drawings as he flipped the pages of the book. He rubbed his forehead and he looked at her.

“Let me guess, you don’t remember drawing it” she said to him.

“No, I don’t. It is almost like I didn’t do it. I remember seeing it in my book. I just don’t remember drawing it” he said to his sister.

“I know. It is pretty obvious from the way you look at it. We have to go. Mom would be here soon and she would want to know what kept you up here with me. I don’t want you to have to tell another lie” Arielle said to him.

Alexander nodded at his sister and he headed down to the dining table with his sister. After breakfast, he headed to his room because he needed some alone time. He decided not to lock the door anymore. It was easier if his mom walked in on him in his wolf form than for him to tell her that he was already a wolf and there was no big deal to it. His sister said that he was going to transform differently on the night of his birthday. How was it going to be different? Alexander sighed as he pulled out his laptop from underneath his bed and opened it. He decided to do some research on how and why he was having some similar reactions with a burning flame wolf. He found nothing convincing and he decided to let it be. The day went by quickly and when Alexander was done with all his assignments and chores for the day, it was time for dinner. After dinner. He headed to bed and slept. He was expecting some sort of vision or dream but he got none this time. Monday rolled around really fast and Alexander was on his way to school again. He got down from the school bus with his sister and dropped her off at the entrance of her class. When he was about to leave, she grabbed his hand. He looked at her and knelt down so that they could be on the same level.

“I don’t have a good feeling about today. Come and get me immediately you are done” she said to him.

“Alright. I would” he said to her.

Something about his sister was that she had always been able to sense things right from the time she was born but she couldn’t communicate properly until she was three but she would draw things and most times than not, it came true. Alexander knew that his sister was gifted right from the very beginning so if she said that it was going to be a bad day then it was probably going to be a bad day for all of them. She touched her face and gave her a kiss on her forehead before heading to his own class. He got there and met Bennie. He knew that something was off about Bennie but he figured that Bennie was going to come around on his own. In the mean time, he removed his drawing pad from his bag and he sighed. He couldn’t bring himself to draw anything. He looked back at Bennie who was engrossed in the conversation he was having. Did he do something to Bennie that made him this upset? He knew that it was unlike Bennie to ignore him. He looked at him one more time and concluded that Bennie wasn’t just aware that he was around and so, he decided to leave it that way. He looked back at his drawing pad when the scent in the classroom changed. He looked at the door and saw her walk in. Cathy, daughter to the alpha of the Southern Crest pack. Their eyes met and she smiled at him before walking up to him.

“Hey” she said to him.

“Hey. I didn’t know that it was allowed for students to be late” Alex said to her.

“Apparently, my dad had some things to take care off so I got late in the process” she said to him.

That was one of the reasons why Alex could never make a move on the girl that he liked. She was the daughter of the person that he hated the most. If she was the daughter of somebody else, he might have considered asking her on a date or something but she wasn’t. she just had to be Carlos’ daughter. He had known Cathy for almost all his life and he had loved her deeply from the very first day he knew what love is. He had made several moves on her and he knew that she felt the same way about him but he couldn’t admit how he felt for her. He just couldn’t and to his surprise, she understood. She knew that she was mated to him, even if he didn’t know that yet but she knew and she was going to wait for as long as she had to wait just so they could end up together.

“I am sorry that you got caught up in all of that, really” he said to her.

“It is fine, really. I ought to be used to it by now but I am not. I just prefer to be normal” she said as she dropped her bag and sat next to him.

Alexander looked back at Bennie and he saw Bennie look at him with a smile across the face. On a normal day, Alexander and Bennie sat together so it was really surprising when Alex walked into the classroom and found Bennie sitting with someone else. He was keeping the space for Cathy. How did he know that she was going to want to sit with him though? A lot of questions ran through his head and his phone vibrated. He picked it up ad looked at the screen. It was a text from Bennie.

“Sorry, excuse me. I really have to attend to this” he said to her.

“It’s alright. It is just a text” she said to him.

Alexander unlocked his phone and he read the text.

“I could already see you fuming. She asked me to let her sit with you for the day and I didn’t want to ruin the surprise so I agreed to it” Bennie texted.

“We would talk about this later” Alexander said to him.

He dropped his phone and he looked at Cathy. She smiled and tucked her hair behind her ears.

“Why are you staring at me that way? Was the text about me?” she asked him.

“Not really. It is just some guys doing what they know how to do best, cause trouble. Anyways, that is not important right now. What were we talking about?” Alexander asked her.

“It doesn’t matter. I heard that you would be turning eighteen soon. You already have that wolf aura around you” she said to him.

Of course I do. I already transformed a couple of years ago, Alexander thought to himself.

“Yeah, I guess. I would be eighteen in a couple of weeks. I don’t know why it is such a big deal to everybody” he said to her.

“What do you mean by you don’t know why it is a big deal to everybody? You are going t be eighteen. That is the prime age for everybody. Everybody looks forward to turning eighteen. That is the age where you know your mate” she said to him.

“Girls get to now their mate right from age fourteen. We don’t see them making such a big deal about it and that is because there is no big deal about it” Alexander said to her.

“I have to admit that I am surprised. Everybody I know looks forward to turning eighteen. Every single person. You are just so different from everybody else” she said to him.

“I guess I am. I just want it to pass so we can move on from it” Alexander said to her.

“I guess so. It is Carson's birthday this weekend and he would be eighteen. He would have to wait until the next full moon, that is your birthday. There is a full moon tonight. Some wolves would e transforming tonight” she said to him.

“I stay in the valley too. I know how it works, Cathy. I am just not as hyped as everybody else or as hype as I should be. Maybe I am different, maybe there is just something wrong with me” Alexander said to her.

She looked at him and he looked back at her, not breaking the eye contact. She didn’t know what to think about him. Well, what did she expect from someone that wasn’t even paying attention to her feelings? She had shown him in every way that she was in love with him but she left like he was ignoring every sigh. She smiled and shook her head.

“What?” he asked her, smiling.

“Nothing. I just enjoy your company” she said to him.

He smiled at her and the teacher walked in. The classes started for the day. When it was time for lunch, Alexander headed out of the class and went to check on his sister as he normally did. She was asleep. He asked her teacher if she was okay and her teacher said that she was. Alexander sighed and left his sister’s class to the cafeteria. When he got there, he got a table and he sat with his lunch. Bennie came to sit with him almost immediately. He scoffed at him and looked away.

“What? Now, you are mad at me? You literally spent half of the day looking at Cathy as she wrote and listened in class.

“I wasn’t staring at her. I was just carried away by something that was beside her. Besides, I told you that I had to talk to you about something that was extremely urgent and you decided to ship me off with Cathy when I needed your help?” Alexander said to him, a little furious.

“I know what you want to talk about and I don’t see a need for you to talk about you being a burning flame wolf. You were right. It is impossible for you to be one. The last of them died before you were born. It would make no sense for you to exist without coming from their bloodline. If you are one of them, there has to be some sort of connection between you and them and I couldn’t find any” Bennie said to him.

“Finally, you see it. I am not a burning flame wolf. I am just someone that messed with black magic and now it is affecting me in ways that I can’t explain” Alexander said to him.

“Well, I think that on your eighteenth birthday, it should be over. You would transform and the effects of the black magic would fade off” he said to Alex.

“That would have been good news if you have not confided in my sister because she believes that I am a burning flame wolf and I don’t know how to get her to stop believing. She has done too many researches and I think she is heading somewhere. Maybe you are right, maybe you are not but whatever is going on with me is not magic, it is more than magic” he said to his best friend.

“Okay, let me get you straight. I tell you that you are a rare type of wolf and you don’t believe me but an eleven year old kid tells you that you are a wolf and you start to believe her? I don’t even know what to say to you” Bennie said.

“I know what it looks like but she had evidence” Alexander said to him

“What evidence exactly?” he asked him

Alexander brought out his drawing pad and he handed it over to Bennie
