Chapter 7: Pu Chengji's Attacked

Lin Huai jumped down from the wall, Wei Qimian still in his arms, and ran until they reached a busy street.

"Hey, why are you so quiet? Have you fallen for me?"

The people chasing them were nowhere to be seen, but Lin Huai hadn't set Wei Qimian down yet. One arm was wrapped around Wei Qimian's hip, and the other arm was around Wei Qimian's slim waist. She felt so delicate and soft, Lin Huai couldn't help but to hold her tight.

Wei Qimian thumped Lin Huai's chest gently.

"Hey, they didn’t chase us here. Let me down?" she said with a pout.

Lin Huai grinned.

"What if they attack out of nowhere? I might not have time to pick you up."

"You- You're such a scoundrel."

Lin Huai's heart was melting.

"C'mon, set me down." Wei Qimian said playfully.

"Your foot's hurt. I need to help you with your ankle first."

Lin Huai began to carry her towards a hotel. Lin Huai could afford a luxury hotel, but that wouldn't match his current identity. Lin Huai looked at him in surprise.

"Hey, where are you taking me?"

Lin Huai smiled.

"Should I just go back to the dorms? They're probably waiting back at the school to jump me. I'll book two rooms. You can have the room to yourself after I've seen to your ankle."

Wei Qimian looked at Lin Huai seriously.

"I’m more worried about you!" she said quietly.

Lin Huai laughed out loud, holding Wei Qimian in his arms and walked towards the hotel. Women are hypocrites. When she says she’s worried, it actually means she’s not.

"Hey, if we really can't go back to the dorm, let's go to the hotel across the street. It’s cleaner... I don't mind paying."

She was clearly worried about hurting his ego, but Lin Huai didn't mind. He wasn't going to turn down a more comfortable room.

Lin Huai walked into the hotel's front desk, got two rooms, and carried Wei Qimian to the elevator.

“Can you put me down now?" Wei Qimian asked.

"Let's get you to the room."

Wei Qimian buried her face in Lin Huai's arms to avoid being seen, while Lin Huai strode straight into the elevator. There were two men and two women in the elevator with them, all around their age and well dressed.

One of the glamorous looking girls was nestled in the arms of a boy. She glanced at Wei Qimian in Lin Huai's arms, and then whispered to the

"Wan Zitao, look at the girl, isn’t it the Wei Qimian?"

Lin Huai felt Wei Qimian shudder. Lin Huai hugged tighter, expressionless, as if he hadn't heard anything.

Wan Zitao seemed to be the leader of the four. He had a noble and self-assured bearing. He looked over, trying to get a better look at Wei Qimian, but, when he couldn't get a clear look at her face, rolled his eyes.

"Miss Wei barely talks to men. Who do you think she would let actually hold her?"

Lin Huai could feel Wei Qimian trying not to laugh. Fortunately, Wan Zihao's was too arrogant to imagine somebody dressed like Lin Huai could get near Wei Qimian. Lin Huai got out of the elevator, leaving the other youths still inside. Lin Huai could hear the woman muttering.

"I really think she looked like Miss Wei."

Wan Zihao snorted.

"You're overthinking it. Wei Qimian will be mine, sooner or later. She can't resist me forever..."

The elevator closed and Lin Huai took Wei Qimian into her room, setting her gently on the bed. She sighed in relief.

"It's a good thing Wan Zihao is so self centered. If he'd looked at me carefully, he could have recognized me. "

Lin Huai laughed.

"You seem rather happy, and think of my poor self-esteem!"

"I doubt that. You seem pretty thick-skinned," Wei Qimian said with a smile.

Lin Huai pretended to sulk.

"Ah, I can't even talk to a girl without blushing, and you say that I'm thick-skinned? I'm hurt."

Wei Qimian chuckled.

"You hold me pretty boldly for a guy who says he can't even talk to girls."

Remembering the incident, she turned red and went silent, glaring at Lin Huai. His heart sunk. He thought she wouldn't notice how much he'd enjoyed holding her, but she clearly had.

Lin Huai coughed.

"About that... uh... let me look at your ankle."

Lin Huai squatted down and carefully removed Wei Qimian's shoes and socks.

"Really Lin Huai, I should be fine after I rest a bit."

He had trouble not staring at her leg. How could all of her be so beautiful? She didn't just have looks, she was kind and intelligence. God clearly played favorites.

Lin Huai touched Wei Qimian's ankle gently.

"It's very swollen. If you don't treat it now, you're going to be in bed for at least three days."

Wei Qimian's paled.

"I won't be able to walk for three days?"

"It's fine if you prefer that. I'd just have to take care of you, but I think people might gossip if we disappeared together for three days...”

"Then I will trouble you," Wei Qimian said quietly.

"Well, if you insist."

He pulled a bottle of green medicine out of his bag and poured two drops onto Wei Qimian's ankle, then began to gently massage it in. Wei Qimianfelt a pleasant warmth radiate from her ankle. She began to relax, closing her eyes and moaning softly. Lin Huai froze. Hearing her moan was so distracting, but Wei Qimian flushed and kicked him gently with her free leg.

“C'mon. Get back to helping me with my ankle."

"Alright, but try not to seduce me. I'm not looking for a casual relationship."

Wei Qimian's face became even redder.

"It would probably take some sort of goddess to seduce you."

"Are you a goddess, miss?"

"Screw you!" Wei Qimian watched as Lin Huai. He was so focused, and her ankle was beginning to feel better. "But it's strange, I didn't expect to become friends with you on the first day."

"That either means we're a good match, or you're weak to good looking men.”

"I haven't seen anyone as narcissistic as you,” she said with a smile, “but I won't lie and say you aren't handsome. You've got such a strange way of acting though. You don't feel like a normal student."

Lin Huai's heart skipped a beat. Wei Qimian's instincts were too sharp. He had to change the topic.

"Wan Zihao said you don't talk to men that often?"

"Uhm, I don't really have many male friends." Wei Qimian sighed. "Most boys seem to have trouble... seeing me platonically."

Lin Huai lowered Wei Qimian's feet and went to sit down.

"That's true. I imagine not many men can handle being around somebody as beautiful as you." Not to mention she was Wei Sihai’s daughter.

Wei Qimian looked at Lin Hua.

"Do you have other ideas too?"

Lin Huai’s heart was racing again. He didn't understand. He'd spent plenty of time around beautiful women on his missions, but his heart had never been thrown into such chaos.

Was this what falling in love felt like.

The silence was awkward, and Wei Qimian was turning red again. She sometimes helped her father with business, so she knew how to keep a straight face. Around Lin Huai, however, she was constantly blushing. Was it because of how much time they'd spent alone together?

It was Lin Huai that broke the silence.

"Wan Zihao seems to think he can win your heart. When I was carrying you out of the elevator just now, it sounded a bit suspicious, like he had some sort of plan."

Wei Qimian frowned.

"Even if he wants to, I doubt he has the guts!"

For the first time, Lin Huai could see the fierceness that came from being the daughter of a business tycoon! Lin Huai relaxed. He was probably overthinking it. Wan Zitao was probably just boasting to his friends.

They chatted for a bit, but it was starting to get late. Lin Huai was about to leave when his phone started to ring.

Not many people knew Lin Huai’s current cellphone number. The phone was only meant to be used for this mission. Wei Sihai, Wei Qimian, Pu Chengji, and the school were the only people with the number. If Lin Huai’s brother needed anything, he would call his other number. Was the school calling to ask why he wasn't back in the dorms?

Looking at the screen, he recognized Pu Chengji's number. When he picked it up, the voice was cold.

"Lin Huai, I've slashed Pu Chengji open. I'm leaving him at the door your dorm now. No one except you can take him away. Either you come back now, or he'll bleed out in the doorway!"

"Who are you?" Lin Huai said slowly, voice cold.

"Zhang Chunlei."

"Wait for me!" he growled. “I'm coming.”

Lin Huai hung up and went to the door. Wei Qimian wanted to stop him, but he forced himself to calm down.

"I'll pick you up tomorrow!"

He closed the door and hurried away.

His calmness chilled her. She looked through her contacts and hit call.

"Hello, is this Mian Mian?" a gentle male voice responded.

Wei Qimian hesitated.

"I need a favor."
