Chapter 22

"You don't have to do that." I spoke as I rubbed the back of my hand and stared at Kerrick closely.

"Tend to your burn, I'll finish dinner."

He stirred the pot and lowered the flame beneath as bubbles of steam rose from it.

"Kerrick, I can still do it." I objected while reaching for the spoon.

"It's already done." He pulled back and stopped me. I gave up and sighed before going over to the sink and turning the tap on over my hand.

"Don't do that."

"Why?"

"Cold water will only irritate it more." He scooped hot noodles into the dishes on the counter then poured warm sauce over it. "There's an ointment in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, use that."

"Okay."

He brought the plates to the table but I didn't move until his eyes landed on me.

"What is it?"

"How is it that you can cook?"

He narrowed his eyes and sighed before sitting back in his chair.

"I'm not as useless as you think I am."

"That's not what I meant."

"Then why would you ask a question like that?"

I looked down at my sting
