"Alpha, we should go."
For a moment, Usher did not seem to hear Garth's voice. His ears were filled only with Vione's curses and insults. He watched as Vione went berserk, pounding on the iron bars as if to knock them down.
Usher remained motionless. Never before had he seen Vione rebel like this. Vione looked genuinely angry and ready to unleash all the vengeance she felt.
"You must be responsible for the death of my parents, Usher. You truly have no heart. You are cruel!"
Vione's scream echoed. Her voice bounced off the prison walls, spreading immeasurable pain everywhere. She wailed, releasing all the curses she had held for days.
Vione was truly suffering. Her eyes were red, showing emotions Usher had never seen before. There was anger, hatred, and sadness. There were gaping wounds, and Usher was certain of the cause.
"Vi-Vione."
Vione went into a frenzy, pounding on the iron bars, not caring for the cuts that began to graze her p
Usher could not speak. Mireya had successfully silenced him. He was trapped in a growing sense of guilt.Usher's pride and ego plummeted to their lowest depths. He was an Alpha, but this happened to Mireya, the woman he loved. Not only could he not give Mireya the respect she deserved, but he could not find Mireya's understanding.Usher felt a blow to his self-esteem. He felt embarrassed and worthless, unable to give Mireya her rightful place."Forgive me, Mireya," Usher begged.Mireya shook her head, smiling. "It's okay, Usher. I understand.""I know you understand my situation, but I can't let this go on," Usher said, looking at Mireya with a serious expression. Mireya raised her eyebrows, signaling curiosity. "I will take you to The Palace tonight."Mireya's eyes widened. "U-Usher.""To hell with Ayla or The Sacred Ceremony to bless you. I don't care about any of that. Let people think of you as Luna or not, but you are my mate and
Ayla's words caused a stir. Some of the werewolves present immediately turned pale, trembling with the natural fear that arose. Meanwhile, Usher and Mireya were furious."I know you hate me, Ayla, but not like this! How dare you speak ill of my son? You really are a heartless old woman!"Ayla turned to Mireya. If Mireya had not just gone through the exhausting and painful process of childbirth, she would undoubtedly have jumped out of bed and slapped Ayla."I'm not making this up. This is reality," Ayla said.Usher was furious. "This is reality? You're out of your mind, Ayla. My son has just been born and he knows nothing, yet you accuse him without compassion!""Alpha, I'm not accusing him. I'm simply sharing the vision I saw with my mind's eye," Ayla replied, gasping for breath. She tried to calm herself, but what she saw shook her. "The happiness you feel now will lead to unparalleled sorrow in the future. Your son is a disaster for the Frosthol
Normally, the birth of a new werewolf would be a joyous occasion for any pack. Not limited to the Alpha's family, they would usually celebrate as a form of gratitude. It might not always be a big feast, but at least there would be a dinner party. In addition, werewolves would spend several days at the newborn's home. They would help with many things, since childbirth was both a joyous and a demanding event. However, nothing of the sort happened at The Palace. Philip's birth did not bring happiness as births usually did. The reason was the gossip circulating among the packs, news of Ayla's prophecy. It was undeniable that the packs were excited about Philip's birth. Despite Mireya's actions, Philip was still an innocent baby. More importantly, he was the Alpha's son. So, they eagerly visited The Palace to show their gratitude and happiness.Unfortunately, The Palace's response was not as expected. They were turned away on the grounds that Usher and Mireya
To begin the day, Garth approached a shewolf named Cora Webb. Cora had served as the Gamma of the Frostholm Pack for almost a year. She had been chosen after successfully beating out at least fifty other candidates. She was responsive, efficient, and most importantly, a woman.Cora's main task was to manage the needs of The Palace, since there was no real Luna in The Palace. Mireya could not fulfill the duties of Usher's mate, and the only solution was to create a position that hadn't been filled for several generations."What is it, Garth?"Garth approached Cora, who had just arrived at The Palace. He glanced at Cora's appearance, which seemed unusual. Hmm, a knee-length dress?"Why?" Cora asked, lowering her eyes. She could sense that Garth was more interested in her appearance than in her previous question. "Do I look strange?"Garth cleared his throat and shook his head with a furrowed brow. "You don't look strange, but I'm just curiou
Vione's sleep was disturbed by the soft footsteps approaching her cell. She blinked and turned around. In the darkness she saw two shewolves approaching."Good morning, Vione."Vione took a long breath and stood up. She rubbed her face for a moment before approaching them. "Good morning and thank you. Without you, I wouldn't know the difference between morning and night."The two shewolves exchanged guilty looks. Then one of them handed Vione a tray of food through a small opening in the iron bars."This is your breakfast."Vione took it with a hollow smile. "Thank you."She turned to sit in the corner of the cell, but another shewolf spoke to her."Do you know? The pack has petitioned the Alpha. We demand a retrial for you."Vione's steps stopped. She paused for a moment, then asked to confirm, "A retrial?""Yes.""What do you mean?" Vione asked, turning her body. Her eyes narrowed to see more clearly in the dark
Garth didn't mind filling in the information Vione already knew. He explained that the petition filed by the Pack was a double one. The pack wanted a retrial for Vione and a truth session for Mireya."You know the reason, don't you?" Garth asked, and Vione nodded weakly. Still, she spoke as if to verify the accuracy of the information she had received. "Ayla's prophecy."Vione remained motionless. She made no comment.Garth's forehead wrinkled. His sharp eyes stared at her with an investigative look. "Vione? You don't doubt Ayla's prophecy, do you?""I don't know, Garth." Vione's voice sounded weak. Her face suddenly became melancholic. "I don't know whether to believe Ayla's prophecy or not. You know, I'm one of the results of her prophecy.""Vione."Vione smiled painfully. "I used to believe in Ayla's prophecy so much, Garth. I believed everything with unwavering determination. But now I don't just doubt Ayla's prophecy, I doubt everything
Whether Garth should feel frustrated or not was uncertain. The presence of Mireya in The Palace caused Usher to neglect his surroundings. The Usher who used to work late into the night, whether it was managing the company's affairs or dealing with the pack, was no longer as diligent. Mireya really had managed to capture Usher's attention. On the other hand, Garth complained about it. According to him, Usher was no longer as responsible as he should be. But on the other hand, he was actually grateful. Thanks to Mireya, Usher became indifferent to him. In the end, he gained the freedom to do one or two things outside of his duties as a Beta. One of them was to visit Vione.Garth was well aware that he shouldn't have done that. No werewolf should dare to disobey the Alpha's orders, especially when he held the position of Beta. He was supposed to set an example for the others, but all rules were overshadowed by his humanity.Of course, Garth felt guilty. No matter h
Vione's emotions were in turmoil. The uncertainty made her restless. She was uncomfortable and many questions were running through her mind. If it wasn't Garth, then who?Vione closed her eyes and shook her head. A name came to mind, but she pushed it away as far as she could. Not Usher, it couldn't be him.Unfortunately, there was a part of Vione that insisted on convincing her that it was Usher. She said that it was Usher who had been secretly visiting her all along, and that he was the one who had often given her warm clothes, favorite foods, and special medicines.Vione struggled with herself. Her wolf spirit clung to the belief, while she refused to sink into the illusion. She reminded herself that everything she was experiencing now was because of Usher. So, it was highly unlikely that Usher was secretly watching her like this.Vione's wolf spirit howled sadly. She cried, and so did Vione. But Vione refused to concentrate on her grief. She reminded herself that there was somethin
