Chapter 4. Only The Ex

Amanda can't pay it, but she doesn't want to accept help from Henry because she doesn't wish the identities of her twins to be exposed. She will continue to hide Alana and Alan's identity until she is ready to reveal it to her children later.

Henry is not a man who is easily deceived. Seeing Amanda's behavior makes the man suspicious as if the woman is hiding something.

"Why do you keep following me? I already told you I'm telling the truth. Now it's up to you to believe it or not." Amanda looks frustrated when her ex still follows her.

"I just wanted to take responsibility, but you forbade it." Henry was stubborn. He didn't care about Amanda's ban.

"Okay, if you want to be responsible, now take care of Alana in her room. I'll be home in a while to pick up Alana's needs," Amanda said, slightly pushing Henry's body so as not to get too close to her.

"Let me take you to pick up Alana's stuff," Henry said.

"I'll take it myself!" she insisted.

"Amanda, let me help you. You were once a part of my life. You are not a stranger to me."

"Yes, I used to be a part of your life, but that was before you divorced me for reasons that …."

Amanda almost said that she wasn't having an affair. If that happened, her ex-husband would continue to suspect that Alana was his biological child.

"Never mind, don't talk about it anymore, we are only exes, nothing more than that," Amanda continued.

Even though Henry was the person who had filled her life, separation had changed everything. Amanda felt her life was peaceful without her ex-husband, but fate reunited her.

"Yes, I am just your past. Just think of me as being in charge of Alana for causing her to do that.

"I have to protect my husband's feelings. So, you just wait here," Amanda said quietly, "I don't want my husband to be jealous and judge me badly." Added the woman.

"Are you sure you already have a husband?"

Henry's question made Amanda stroke her chest.

"Do you think a poor woman like me doesn't deserve better than you?" Amanda couldn't contain her anger anymore.

"I'm sorry, Amanda, I didn't mean it like that." again, Henry offended his ex-wife.

"This time I beg you, let me live in peace with my little family. Even though my husband is not as successful as you, he is a man who can respect and trust his wife. So, I don't want to hurt him."

Amanda clasped her hands together and begged her ex not to bother her.

Amanda rushed to leave Henry. Meanwhile, the man wanted to prevent Amanda, but William immediately came to restrain him.

Henry was still staring at the departure of his ex-wife, who occasionally glanced at him.

Amanda glanced back to make sure that Henry had not followed her. She didn't want the man to accompany her and meet Alan, Alana's twin.

Amanda wants Henry to know something other than the truth. If the man saw Alan, he would be sure that Alan and Alana were his children because his son's face was very similar.

"Boss, let him go. If Mrs. Amanda's husband sees your closeness, he will misunderstand." William took his boss back to Alana's ward.

"Is what she said true? Does she already have a husband again? How quickly forgets me, even though she used to deny that he never had an affair, but in fact, she married her lover."

"I understand how you feel, Boss, but now you have a fiancé."

"I don't love her," Henry said flatly. "I still love Amanda very much."

William was speechless. He will remain silent for the safety of his boss' loved ones.

Now, Henry is waiting for a little girl who is even more worthy of being called a sleeping beauty. She had closed her eyes for a long time, but Alana never woke.

Henry stroked Alana's hand. The man was pleased to see Alana's shady face, which made him happy. Looking at Alana made Henry feel at peace.

"Boss!" called William while approaching Henry.

"Yes, what is up?" Henry turned to his assistant.

"Allow me to take care of Alana's hospital administration," said William. "Maybe Mrs. Amanda just wants to protect her husband's feelings."

"Amanda said her husband would pay for Alana's treatment," Henry said. "I'm not allowed to help her."

"I believe Mrs Amanda has not paid for all the administration. These hospital fees are not small, they are very modest. Let me take care of it," said William, preparing to leave.

"Wait!" Henry stopped his assistant in his tracks.

William turned back to his boss. Yes, Boss. What is it?"

"Why are you even taking care of it? I'm her ex-husband, not you." There's no denying that Henry was jealous.

"If you take care of it, Mrs. Amanda's husband will be offended and he will suspect that you two are close again."

William will do whatever it takes to prevent Henry from getting close to Amanda for the safety of his boss's children and ex-wife.

"Maybe Mrs. Amanda wants to protect her husband's feelings," repeated William. "I am someone else. Her husband will not suspect anything. Let's just say that I crashed into Alana and will be responsible for what I have done," explained William.

Henry looked at his assistant fixedly. He didn't like it when William seemed to want to be a hero to finish all of Alana's administration, but Henry still respected his assistant's suggestion. That way, he wouldn't feel too guilty.

"You have nothing more to say, boss?" asked William to make sure.

"Yes, already go!" Henry waved his right hand while his left hand was holding his chin.

William nodded. The man immediately left Alana's inpatient room to pay for the little girl's administration.

Henry looked back at Alana. His eyes caught the movement of the child's tiny hands. Alana's fingers moved little by little.

"Alana, are you awake?" asked Henry as he stood up. The man was standing right beside Alana. He also stroked the cheek of his ex-wife's child.

His chest felt like shaking as he stared at a face similar to Amanda's. Only Alana managed to touch his heart. So far, Henry has never liked a child.

Faintly, Alana opened her eyes. The view of the little boy was full of white ceilings. Because she felt sick in her head, Alana cried as she called her mother.

"Mother!" Alana cried while looking around for her mother. The child moves when she does not find the person she seeks. The child's cries were getting louder and louder.

Henry was confused when he saw Alana crying. The man patted Alana's cheek, "Hey, calm down, Uncle is here," said Henry, trying to calm Alana.

"Mother! Where's Mother?" Alana shouted while crying.

"Your mother goes home first. Soon your mother will come," said Henry.

"I want Mother now, just now!" said Alana, crying in fear.

"You're safe with me, your mother is on the way here." Henry tried to calm the daughter, but Alana looked afraid of Henry.

"Uncle who? Why are you close to me? Go away from here!" Alana grinned as she held her head.

"Alana ...!"
