"And with that the board meeting is concluded." Daniel said to the members of the board at the table while closing the files before him as he heard several sighs coming from his staff.
Sighs of relief. It sure was a long and boring meeting.
"Rose." He called.
"Yes sir." A woman sitting on the third chair to the left answered, "What would you want me to do sir?"
"I want you to reach out to Greter's hub and find out if their proposal is ready?" He stood up from his seat, " Make it snappy." He added.
"Yes sir." Rose said.
"The rest of you are dismissed."
Every person at the table stood up at his statement and proceeded to exit the boardroom in an orderly manner admits chatting and incessant murmurs.
Daniel rolled his eyes at their attitude and waited for them to all leave the boardroom before he followed suite and went to his office.
It wasn't long before he got there and had assumed his position of his magnificent soft leather seat.
He sank into it, leaning his head backwards and he let out a peaceful sigh at the ease the seat provided.
His eyes flickered to the long glass windows as he stared into the city skyline getting lost in his thoughts.
Months had passed since he had seen that rude lady and he was glad.
After his last encounter with her, he made sure never to cross paths with her again.
He moved to a new place, got his coffee at a different place and took routes that were distinct from where he had seen her.
All his measures to avoid her worked.
He was free.
No more bad mornings.
No more bad days.
He broke free from his thoughts and stood up from the seat before proceeding to grab his office files and wallet.
Daniel scanned the office to make sure he didn't forget anything.
He nodded in satisfaction once done and headed out the door to his next meeting.
Red sat at the table with a forlorn look. Her head bent low. Her hands with dirty nails twirling the coffee with a spoon in the white mug cup placed in front of her.
She raised the cup to her lips and took a sip of the contents in it. The bitterness hitting her taste buds forcing her to spew out the liquid.
"That's terrible!" She shuddered speaking to herself.
"So, why should we give you a job?" The woman in front of her at the other side of the table asked accessing Red with disgust.
"Cause I need one and you need secretary." Red stated to the woman as she looked at her hair wondering if it was bleached blonde or natural.
"I mean give me a reasonable answer why you think you should be the best candidate for the job." The woman explained with a frustrated sigh.
She adjusted her glasses, gazing at Red intently.
"I just gave you an answer." Red shrugged, "If you can't make something reasonable out of what I just said then you obviously do not deserve to have me here."
"What insolence?!" The woman exclaimed shocked at Red's reply.
"So...uhhh." Red tapped her fingers on the table, "You gonna give me the job or not?" She asked with all her mustered confidence.
"Get out!" The woman thundered, "Get out of my office now!!
"Okay miss." Red nodded standing up, 'Your coffee tasted bad anyway." She turned her back and walked out of the office not waiting for the woman's reply.
She strode out of the office not too elegantly and angry wondering why no one had hired her.
Red had been looking for a job for days.
Why she suddenly wanted a job was out of the ordinary and unknown to her even.
She had gotten tired of picking pockets over time as she was recently unsuccessful most of the time.
So she decided she needed a job if she wanted to survive as her petty thieving wasn't paying off too well anymore.
Red walked down the streets with her hands in her pants pockets. It was evening now. The cool breeze blowing through the trees with leaves rustling producing a calming sound.
She walked for some time before spotting a bench and taking a seat on it.
Her hands were removed from her pocket now and were neatly folded across her laps while she stared into space dwelling in her thoughts.
She really needed to get a job but with little to no qualifications no one would hire her.
She sniffed and rubbed her palms over her face.
She was lost on what to do, where to go and how to go about looking for a job.
She wanted a high class job, a secretary or a receptionist of which she knew she had no qualifications for.
The only jobs she could get were less paying manual jobs like cleaning, waitressing and laundry services but Red wasn't interested. She didn't want them.
She wanted to get the admirable jobs, huge paying and classy jobs.
She got broken away from her thoughts by the sudden honking of cars which she had been distant from.
Red stood up from the bench wiping her bottoms like some imaginary dust got on it.
She put her hands back in her pockets and began trekking down the road with her head hung low, whistling with every step she took as she continued her thoughts.
She didn't want to falter because she got rejected. The rejection didn't down her spirits one bit.
She was gonna try again tomorrow.
"No! No! No! Hell no!" Those were the words Red heard the following week.
A bunch of No's with doors being slammed in her face.
The last rejection was the worse.
"You say you were a thief or are a thief?" The white haired lady asked her pulling her glasses down to her nose as if it would help her see Red more clearly.
"Yes ma." Red nodded with a smile.
"Are or were?" The lady asked.
"Uhhmm..." She hummed for a moment as if in subtle thought, "A bit of both actually."
"And you want to work for me as a cashier?" The woman's brows furrowed as she leaned back in her seat.
"Yes, isn't it obvious?" Red grunted, "That's why I am here."
"Of what guarantee are you giving me that you wouldn't steal my money?"
"Cause I am trying to change." She twirled her hair while she answered.
"And..."
"Look lady." She tapped her index finger on the table, "Just give me the job. I am not promising not to steal your money and even if I do." She raised the same finger at the woman in a comical way, "It wouldn't be all of it. I am not a wicked person to steal all your money and..."
"Security!" The lady screamed.
"B...u...t ma'am." Red stammered.
She didn't get to finished her statement.
She saw herself being lifted from the chair by two heavyweight ladies, walked out of the office and thrown out of the building in a non graceful manner.
Red stood up with a sigh and picked up her purse which had fallen to the ground before dusting her clothes with her palms.
She was about to step away from the premises of the building when she saw a white flyer pinned to a pole.
She walked there out of curiosity and tore of the paper.
'PERSONAL ASSISTANT NEEDED URGENTLY'
She smiled as she read through the paper. The interview was slated for the next Monday and there was a cooperate dress code to follow.
She folded the paper and put it in her purse.
She was going over to the company on Monday to try and she was going to make sure she got the job.
She smiled once more to herself before skipping happily down the street journeying her way home.
"Holy fuck!" Red screamed throwing off her bed covers as she leapt from the bed. "Shit! Shit! Shit!" She exclaimed. The bright blinding light streaming through the windows had woken her.She looked at the window and saw the sun was shining brightly."Fuck!" She cursed again. She grabbed her old phone from the floor and checked the time. It was 2:00pm and that meant she had over slept and missed her interview."Calm down Red." She sighed taking in deep breaths, "There is no cause for alarm." She continued talking to herself, "You can still make it."Make it? Her subconscious snarled, the interview was fucking six hours ago. Numbskull. She ignored her inner buddy and thought of what to do.She had to be there, she couldn't miss it. Red thought since the interview started by eight o
"Rose, just leave." Daniel told the receptionist glaring daggers at her."I am sorry." She mouthed before hurrying away."What are you doing here?" He turned to face the woman he detested the most at the moment.Red raised her head and withdrew her fingers from the weird looking sword shaped plant she was touching."Nice plant you have here." She said, "Although weird." She told him referring to the shape, "And the edges are way too sharp.""It's a very expensive sword plant and get away from it." Daniel tried to control his temper, "What are you doing here?""I came for the interview." She stated."What interview?" He asked thinking she couldn't possibly be referring to the PA job offer."The interview for the position of a personal assistant.""You came for an interview like this?" He asked appraising her with a raised hand.
Daniel wasn't mad this time around. He was disappointed and he wondered if he could mete out instructions to any of his staff and they carry them out well without his intervention. He closed his laptop and looked up at his receptionist. She was standing before him with her hands folded in front of her and head hung low."What did you say you did Rose?" He asked her again even while knowing the words she would spew as answers would make him more disgruntled."I sent the mail to the wrong person sir." She said, "I am sorry.""Why did you do that?" He asked."I...I...I thought it was the person we chose." She replied.Daniel sighed and leant back in his chair. He began tapping his fingers on the table an action he did to control his anger."I didn't close from work yesterday." He began speaking, "After you keyed in the emails and I sent you home. I stayed up all night going
"What are you doing in my Boss's chair?" Red was the first to speak as she advanced towards Daniel waving her shoes as she walked."What are you doing here?" He retorted irritated by her rudeness still not clearing the air that he was the CEO.She put her wet heels on the table aggressively making a loud thud and they began to make a little pool of water as the wetness dripped from them."I am the CEO's new PA." She answered proudly with her hands at akimbo."And who told you that?" He chuckled."I received an email of appointment and an advance pay." She patiently answered his questions."So...""I won the bet Mr stingy." Red told him, "You owe me a 100 dollars, an apology and a nice cup of coffee. You also need to get up from my boss's seat."Daniel just stared at her."As his PA, it is my job to make sure that there are no pests like you in his office.""Pest? Oh please." He rolled his eyes, "You wouldn't
"What happened Red?" Sarah stood up asking while she wiped the dirt off her chin, "Why do you look so sad?"She watched Red walked uncomfortably, wobbling in her heels as she walked into the bakery."Damn this place is hot." Red exclaimed ignoring Sarah's question,"Shouldn't there be ACs in here or something?""Shut up." Sarah rolled her eyes, "This is a local and old fashioned bakery. Not your pristine heavenly office." She said, "It's not as if you are used to ACs yourself."Red playfully smacked her letting out a hearty laugh."So what happened earlier?" She asked, "Why did you have that look on your face when you walked in?"Red glanced around and saw that several workers were already paying little attention to them wanting to get a little gossip."Let's discuss outside." She dragged Sarah out and towards the back of the bakery. It was a bit noisy there with
She was once again attracting stares as she walked through the company's lobbies. Not because of her weirdly dyed hair or obnoxiously all red outfit but because of the terrible aroma coming from the cup cakes she held.Every one knew she was holding burnt cakes. The stares didn't stop her from greeting every individual she walked passed with a cheerful smile and a mini introduction that went thus; "Hi I am Red, Mr Daniel's new personal assistant."Some stared at her quizzically with hundreds of questions running through their minds while the others simply smiled back and wished her a good day."You can't go in Red." Rose told her for the umpteenth time while tapping rapidly on the keyboard placed on her table."Why?" Red asked again for whatever time, Rose had lost count. She shifted her gaze from the monitor's screen to Red's face, "He doesn't want you in
Daniel was walking leisurely towards his office but broke into a run immediately he saw people dressed in blue overalls coming and going in and out of his office."What in the flying falcons is going on here?" He asked Rose as soon as he got to her table."It's Red sir." Rose replied timidly afraid that his sharp gaze could actually release daggers at her.He didn't say anything further but rather he marched into the office only to meet with a sight that sent him into bewilderment. Red was standing in the centre of his now large red and green colored office with was formerly immaculate white. She was wearing some cargo shorts and a white T-shirt.Her hands moving around directing the workers in overalls as she stood there. He looked around and the office was a mess, he saw his old furniture cast aside with the workers moving som
On a typical day Rose wouldn't be worried if her boss didn't return from lunch early but in this case she had to be bothered.Very bothered as Red was with him."Where did you say they went again?" She asked one of the workers."I do not know." The man shrugged, "I just saw her dragging him out while he was grunting.""Oh." Rose pursed her lips, "Is that so?""Maybe they went for lunch." He said, "Cause I saw them leave at lunch time.""Thank you Todd." She said to the man before walking into Daniel's office. Her eyes hurt at the appalling sight she saw.The colours were horrifying and all of Mr Daniel's nice furniture was gone. They were replaced with garish ugly furniture and she was sure when he set his eyes on them she was very sure he would push Red of a cliff. She
