I mustered all my courage and dialed Oxem's number. My hands were still shaking while holding the phone. We didn't see each other and talk for a few weeks. I don't even know what to say to him.

But I promised we would talk. And in this conversation, I have to tell him that we can't be together and that my decision is complete.

My phone rang signaling that he had answered. But neither of us answered. It was as if we were both just waiting to see who would speak first. Or maybe we are both afraid of what we will hear from each other.

That's why I thought ahead. "Let's break up." I laughed when I heard my own voice. "It turns out we can't break because we don't have anything yet."

He didn't find my joke funny, though, because he didn't laugh. In fact, his voice from the other line seemed too cold. "Is it because of that guy? Is it true what he said? Are you getting married?”

I bit my lower lip. "Yeah. We are. Two weeks from now.”
