Sleep was not the option right now. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I looked like a dishevelled rat. My hair was tousled and scattered, and my beards looked overgrown. It'd been the roughest two days of my life. I walked to the bar and picked out one of the wines. It'd become a routine, the daily drinking. Again, it'd been just two days. I walked to the kitchen to pick a glass. It felt like all the knots in my head were loosening. I sent all my staff away, so I could think. As much as I've made so many mistakes that could incur Thea's wrath, this particular one could cause my death. I wasn't ready to die.

I thought of how beautiful her smile was when I saw her the last time. The way she played with mt hair and drew circles on my face, I'd never been the one for children, but she had lit up a spark in me. I needed someone to blame, to pour my frustration on. It will make me think better. She disappeared within ten to fifteen minutes. That meant we were both being watched
