I wore my dark shades once again before alighting my car and locking the door, making my way into the company and into the elevator almost immediately. It was some minutes after ten am on a Monday morning, the date my dad had scheduled for me to meet my future wife. My dad and cousin were going to be in the meeting as well, while the girl I was getting married to would be coming with her dad– the owner of the company that was going to get us out of our debts, and one more person so we can all sign the contracts with a witness on both sides.I got out of the elevator and into the conference room, my dad and cousin already present- as expected.“I just knew you were going to be late.” My dad drawled out as I sank into the seat on his right hand side.“Good morning dad.” I murmured, completely letting his comment about my tardiness fly past me..“Morning son,” He replied immediately and I rolled my eyes behind my shades.“Good morning dear cousin.” My cousin sang out from his position on the left hand side of my dad and I pursed my lips in irritation, forcing the words threatening to fly out my mouth at him back down.“Eric,” I acknowledged with a nod of my head to spite him, whipping out my phone in the next moment and dismissing him immediately. The phone beside my dad rang and he answered it instantly and listened for a few seconds before gushing out, “Show them in right away.”I puffed out a deep breath, this was it, I’m finally going to meet the girl I’m sure I’d never be able to get it up for but would be getting married to anyways. The door got pulled open and we all got to our feet as the guests made their way into the conference room, a girl’s heels loudly clicking on the floor as they got closer to the large table. I glanced pointedly at my clasped fingers, still not ready to see what she looked like.My dad started welcoming them with my cousin jumping in right after him. I quickly tried to calm my fast beating heart as I slowly glanced up from my clasped hand.“This is my son, Nathaniel.” I heard my dad call out and I glanced up instantly, stretching my hand out for the owner of our former rivalry company.“Hello sir,” I murmured, breaking the handshake almost immediately.“And this is his daughter, Marie, whom you’d be getting married to.”I glanced at Maria and quickly shook hands with her, murmuring a quiet hello to her as well. She looked like every other female; long hair, cute face, tits, hips, bleh.“Oh and that’s her elder brother, Michael.” I glanced towards where my dad pointed and felt my throat clogged up instantly, feeling like I suddenly got doused with tiny sprinkles of ice when I least expected it.Michael-Michael was jack? The man whom I had cut all ties with was Maria’s brother...My head started to spin.I didn’t stretch my hand out for a handshake, and neither did he. He just kept staring at me, an unknown expression crossing his face right before he averted his gaze.Wait a sec...Jack was the brother of the girl I’m supposed to get married to?And I’m supposed to still agree to this so-called marriage? Was his name even jack?Just what the fuck is life trying to do to me?After a few seconds of us standing still without exchanging handshakes, I picked up my briefcase and phone and headed out of the conference room, ignoring my dad’s and cousin’s frantic calls.I got into my car and drove out from the company as fast as I could, with no particular destination in mind.Nate’s POV Fuck.I was so fucked.First of all, what the actual fuck?I did not need this to happen to me at a time like this, it was very obvious that I wasn’t doing all that well after what had happened between Jack and I, and how I had abruptly ended things between us.Or in this case, should I say ‘Michael?’Was his name even Jack to begin with, for fuck’s sake. How was I supposed to go about the whole marriage thing when the woman who I was supposed to be getting married to, was Jack’s –or Michael– since it seemed like his actual name was Michael— younger sister. How was I supposed to agree to the arranged marriage now that the woman whom I was supposed to get married to, was the younger sister of the man whom I had been hooking up with in secret– and was already starting to develop some unexpected feelings for, without even realizing it.I had always had rotten luck since I could remember, but this took the cake. How would I ever face any of them again? How would I stand befor
“What do you mean you’re not getting married but you’re also getting married.” Avery demanded and I started to speak once again.“Well, you see…” “Are you joking with me right now, Nathaniel Blake Harlow?” Avery demanded, placing emphasis on his demand by listing out my full name, and also proving the point that he was indeed dramatic, without realizing it.“I swear to you, I am not.” I echoed out, lifting my hand up to rub against my face, puffing out a breath and moving my weight from foot to foot a little.“Then what’s honestly going on?” He asked, his voice loosing all that edge which had suddenly surrounded it as soon as he had immediately concluded that I had been keeping some huge thing about myself away from him.“Like I said up there, yes, I am getting married, but then—” Avery cut into what I could say before I could complete my sentence, he was extremely fond of that shit,“I thought you said you weren’t getting married?” He demanded, starting to sound genuinely confused a
“Well, you see… that’s not even the main problem of this whole thing.” I informed him after a moment, right as I crossed my foot over each other on the ground with my ass still plastered on the hood of my car.“Oh, there’s some more problems?” Avery echoed after me and I nodded my head out of habit as I breathed out a reply.“Yeah, afraid so.”“Tell me about it?”“So, you see… there was a guy.” I paused as soon as I had breathed out the first sentence while I knew already had Avery completely hooked, because he started preening almost immediately.“Did you say there was a guy… ‘was?’” He demanded and I bit on my lower lips and allowed my eyes to slide shut, as soon as the urge hits.“Yeah, there was.”“Okay?”“So…” I continued after a moment.“Let me guess, you guys hooked up?” Avery chipped in and I grinned a little as my eyes rolled around in my head a little.“Why yes, of course we did.” I confirmed and breathed out a chuckle as soon as he snorted at me through the phone.“But
“Yeah, right. You literally promised this same thing some minutes ago.” I pointed out.“I didn’t mean it then, I mean it now.” He replied without missing a beat.“Well, as I was saying before I got interrupted by you countless times, what I was trying to say was that, the dude who I had hooked up with for more than a night…”“Over ten times.” Avery chipped in and I let out a loud sigh.“Sorry, sorry. I won’t interrupt you again.” I heard him breath into the phone and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at that.“Well, you won’t believe this but the guy whom I had hooked up with a couple of times… or more, is the elder brother or the woman who I am supposed to get married to.” I said into the phone and breathed out a small sigh immediately after that.A small silence stretched out between us and it lasted for a few seconds before Avery's voice started to fill out the silence. “The fuck?” He demanded in a tone which almost perfectly represented my whole thoughts as soon as I saw Jack
“Sir. Excuse me, where are you planning to get gas? You are occupying a parking space meant for customers only. I am sorry, but if you are not getting gas or buying anything from the store, I am going to have to ask you to leave.” The cute gas station attendant snapped at me in an annoyed tone.I muttered profanities under my breath and then schooled my features and plastered a fake ass smile on my face, then flashed it at him.“I am sorry. I needed to call someone and ask what the person would like me to get at the gas station again. I had forgotten what they asked for earlier. I was going to get gas too. I hope I did not cause you too much trouble. Did I mate?” I replied, trying not to sound like the fucking mess I was.His face became flushed, and almost immediately, he was the one struggling for words.I- it's okay, sir. Er. So um, I should fill up your tank while you get what you want from the store? He finally managed to say. He was probably embarrassed he had spoken to me th
Nate’s POV I huffed out a breath as the traffic thankfully started to reduce drastically and cars started to be able to move forward more faster than they had been able to do, about half an hour ago. I stared out the window and lightly carded my fingers through my hair with my second hand lightly grasping the side of the steering wheel and controlling it slowly as the car started to slowly move forward, inch by inch.My phone started to ring once again and I ignored it until it stopped ringing, I didn’t even bother myself to check who it was because I had a feeling it was going to be none other but my father, wanting to demand where I was at, at the moment, and why I had stormed out of the conference room almost immediately the guests arrived, without any sort of information.I dragged the palm which was buried deep into my hair moments ago, over my face for a fast second as I felt another slow breath whooshing past my parted lips on a small and quiet sigh, with my mind start
I huffed out a breath as I slowed down the car as soon as I had almost arrived in front of the apartment where I lived in, before finally slowing completely down when I arrived at the entrance of the big gate. I hit the horn button a few times before the gates started to slide open automatically, it just needed to be controlled by a single button and all the gateman had to do was to confirm who it was before sliding the gates open. I drove into the compound and headed straight into the garage corner where I finally pulled the car over and switched off the ignitor before pulling the key away from the key hole. I reached into the car consule and fished out my phone before shoving it carefully into my pocket.I leaned towards the passenger seat and retrieved the whole stuffs which I had gotten from the small supermarket beside the gas station, a couple of hours ago, right before I stepped out of the car and pushed the door shut, and then I tapped on a button on the car which wou
I dug out my keys from my back pocket and inserted it into the keyhole, turning the key around in there until the door creaked open, and then I pulled down on the doorknob to get the door open. I stepped through the threshold doorway and got into the house, before turning around and staring at Elena who was standing a few feet away from my door, in the direction opposite side, while probably waiting and hoping I’d invite her in.I scoffed a little beneath my breath before lifting my head until I was staring at her, and then I raised my right hand up and waved at her a little.“Bye Elena, and thanks for the coffee offer.” I said to her and reached for the handle of my door, starting to tug it into place almost immediately.“It still stands, the offer still stands, and you wouldn’t be a bother.” She called out to me in reply and I nodded my head once at her, my cheeks lifting in a fake and little smile which hurts a little, right before I finally shut the door in her face, cutting i
