~Aiden's ~
I sat comfortably in my plush armchair, my eyes fixed on the spiral stairs that led upstairs. I had called Nora here for a reason, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and annoyance at her late arrival. The clock on the wall seemed to tick louder with each passing minute. What the hell is taking her so long?
Finally, the sound of heels clicking against the marble floor echoed through the hallway upstairs. Soon Nora appeared at the top of the stairs. Her presence alone was enough to stir a whirlwind of emotions within me. She was beautiful, there was no denying that, but her fiery spirit often clashed with my strong-willed nature. It took a whole lot of willpower from me not to frown at her as she descended from the stars in such a pompous manner.
As she stepped down the last case, her eyes met mine, and a spark of irritation flickered between us. It seemed we were both ready for a minor clash, a battle of wills that had become all too familiar.
"What took you so long?" I asked curtly, my voice laced with annoyance.
"Oh, I'm sorry for inconveniencing you, Your Highness." She rolled her eyes, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she said that.
I gritted my teeth, trying to keep my cool. "Let's cut to the chase, shall we? We need to discuss the terms of our arrangement." I said, leaning forward and placing my elbows on my knees.
"Nora," I began, my voice steady but firm, "I've called you here today to discuss the terms of our arrangement. As you know, we are bound by this contract marriage for the next 180 days.." I was, however, unable to complete my statement as Nora interrupted me.
"I'm well aware of the duration of this contract marriage. I'm not dumb not to go through a contract before signing it," she spat, rolling her dim blue eyes as she did so.
Fury burned in me, but Nora Daniels wasn't done yet.
She crossed her arms beneath her perky mounds, her gaze unwavering. "And what exactly are these rules you expect me to follow? Just because you're a billionaire, you can't just go around bossing me around, Aiden."
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her stubbornness. I just managed to keep mute and let this slide, she was new here, and she wasn't aware of what I was capable of.
"Firstly, you will respect my privacy and personal space. And that is why you and I won't share a room. Secondly, you will not interfere with my business affairs. You leave me alone, and I might just return the favour. And lastly, you will refrain from any romantic entanglements during our time together." I stated my rules, leaning back into the armchair with a playful smirk up my lips.
Nora scoffed, her eyes narrowing. "You must be joking! Do you think you can control every aspect of my life? I won't stand for it."
I leaned forward again, "Nora, this is not a negotiation. These are the conditions of our contract. If you can't abide by them, then perhaps you shouldn't have gotten into this contract," I said, my voice laced with determination. She was stubborn, but I will show her that I am more than stubborn.
She stood there for several seconds, saying nothing. Soon enough, she said, "Fine, I've heard you!" she grumbled, and a satisfactory smirk curled up my lips, seeing that I had won.
"So where am I going to be sleeping, or do you expect me to sandwich myself with my kids?" she said, glaring at me irritably.
Gesturing to a guard that was standing close by, I ordered, "Show her her room". And without any delay, the latter moved over to Nora to carry out my order.
As they both made their way up the stairs, Nora and I gave ourselves one last scornful glare.
I was surely going to enjoy bullying this much.
~Nora's POV~
After the tense meeting with Aiden, I felt a mix of anger and confusion swirling within me. I couldn't believe I had agreed to this contract marriage in the first place. But now, knowing that it would only last for 180 days before we would be divorced, a glimmer of hope flickered within me.
But...what would his parents think? Divorcing someone you have been with for three whole years. Well, that was his burden to carry, not mine.
I followed the guard who led me through the grand corridors of the mansion until we arrived at the front of a particular door. I presumed we'd reached my designated room.
The guard simply gestured with his arm, bowed respectfully and turned to leave. Sighing deeply, I opened the door and immediately found my belongings already packed and neatly placed inside the large queenly bedroom.
I locked the door behind me and exhaled a breath I hadn't realised I had been holding. I needed to begin to execute my plans for revenge. That was the main reason for my application, my contract marriage and the risk of my kids' bond with me. While on this mission, I knew I wouldn't have much time with my kids. But I had to do this, for the resentment I am currently harbouring against my ex-boyfriend and my kid sister was beyond imagination, it needed to be poured out, and the only way to do that was by getting revenge.
Quickly, I dashed for my luggage box and opened it. Rummaging through the piles of dresses and underwear in it, I picked out a small purse. I zipped it open hastily and dipped my hand in it, bringing out a SIM card from it. If I'm going to get revenge, I'm going to have to do it secretly.
I grinned at it and quickly brought out my phone and inserted the SIM card. I dialled a number on my phone, my fingers trembling with anticipation. The thought of what I was about to do was giving me goosebumps, but I won't reconsider anyway.
Placing the phone on my ear, I said quietly, "Meet me at the subway in an hour," I instructed the receiver, my voice filled with determination. "And don't forget to bring the files I asked for," I added quickly, and without waiting for a reply from the receiver, I hung up.
Ending the call, I allowed myself a small smile. I stood up and changed into a more comfortable dress than the wedding gown I was still putting on, and then I slipped out of my room and made my way down the grand staircase, my heart racing with each step. I couldn't believe I was about to defy Aiden's rules, but I couldn't bear to stay confined within the walls of his mansion when I had an important mission at hand.
As I reached the front door, my hand trembled as I turned the doorknob. I silently stepped out of the mansion's front door and headed towards the large compound exit.
Natasha and Kyle, I'm coming for you.
~~Nora~~ As I stepped off the subway into the bustling station, the noise and clamour of the city engulfed me. The smell of freshly brewed coffee mixed with the sound of hurried footsteps, a symphony created chaos. I glanced around, taking in the sights of the crowded subway platform. My eyes scanned the crowd, searching for a familiar face. I needed to get the files that proved that I was the real owner of the James Group and not Alison, my step-sister. And that was what I had asked Chris, an old servant of my mother's, to bring me. However, amongst the sea of strangers, I caught sight of a young man holding a bouquet of roses. His face was etched with nervous anticipation. He glanced at his watch, his eyes flicking from left to right as if searching for someone. From where I stood, I braced myself for any sudden mishap. This kind of people should be beware of, for this is how kidnappers and robbers and the like act when they are about to commit their evil deeds. However, soon
Chapter eight~~Aiden~~Scram! Gbam! "Urgh...these pesky nitwits!" I muttered annoyingly. I lay on the king-sized bed in my king-sized room, desperately trying to drown out the noise of Nora's kids running rampant through the mansion. The stress of the day had taken its toll on me, and I longed for some peace and quiet. But apparently, Nora's kids thought otherwise. Irritated, I rolled on my bed and yelled out the name of one of my guards. The door to my room was opened immediately, and he walked in, bowing his head respectfully."Tell the mother of those kids that I won't tolerate any form of disturbance from anyone in this mansion!" I barked at him, relaying my order. He bowed again before turning to leave.Immediately the door was shut behind him. I turned on my bed again and tried to drown myself in sleep. But the thing just wasn't coming, and those kids weren't allowing it. I swear, if it wasn't a result of the urgency of the situation at that time, I wouldn't have agreed to ge
~Nora~Chris insisted we have coffee together since it’s been years since we’ve last seen each other. I remember Chris and I were close back then, always playing around with me when he was not busy with work. He’s also the only servant my mother trusts with me each time she would go on long trips till I grew of age to take care of myself and finally work at James Group of companies but even then James was still there to support and help me with anything and everything he could help with.Whenever I was stressed out with work and pressure, Chris was always there to cheer me up and lift my spirits so even if he was just one of my mother’s workers he had been a great supportive friend to me especially when my mother passed away and I had to face betrayal from that snake I call a step sister and Harry my stupid ex-boyfriend. Those bastards made my life hell after taking away my rightful inheritance but I’m back now to take it back with no remorse especially now that I have in my hands cle
Chapter 10~Nora~Who the hell does he think he is to threaten me like that? How could he? But then what choice do I have than to abide? If not for anything but for my kids and revenge, I can definitely deal with that arrogant billionaire I married. The maid had already changed Aria’s clothes and struggling with Archie’s shirt.“Thanks, nanny,” I said to her in appreciation before taking Archie’s shirt from her.“It’s no problem ma,” she said with bowed head.“Did you have diner yet?” I asked my children“Yes mummy” Archie was first to answer before Aria nodded in confirmation.“Mummy, you needed to see the way Mr grumpy Face bored me to death with that silly game,” Aria said with an exaggerated sigh. Oh my God, why does she always have to act like a rebellious nineteen-year-old? I laugh lightly before remembering she called Aiden Brooks Mr grumpy Face again.“Aria, what did I say about not calling him that to his face?” I asked and she frowned lightly.“I did remind her not to call M
CHAPTER 11 ~ AIDEN'S POV ~ My parents are coming. I thought as I stared at Nora. The kids, what do I tell them about the damn kids!. “Hey!.”, Nora snapped, dragging me out of my reverie. “Tell me you have a plan because I don't. ” “You should have thought of that before getting into this contract thing with me.”,. I replied as I rudely walked out on her. I could hear gasps escape her lips. I stopped for a second, realizing what I did was probably stupid. I turned back to her. “I am sorry, shouldn't have said that. ” “But, my parents coming here will cause a big problem , well normally it will. We just have to figure out away to prevent them from seeing the kids. ” “Any idea as to how we are going to do that?” “We have plenty of rooms here so , we can just hide them there for the mean time... ” ”Are you sure that is going to be a good idea. ” “Well that is if your children cooperate with us then I am sure everything is going to be alright.”, with that I was abo
CHAPTER 12 ~ NORA ~ I could feel the sun ray over my face. Goodness, it morning already... “The Kids!.”, they were the first thing that came to my mind immediately I got up. Normally every morning has always been a rollercoaster with them, no doubt. But I wonder how it going to be here. I haven't even thought of enrolling them into any school around here. I thought about it for a while but it sounds more of a bad idea now. What if Allison traces them? What if she gets her hand on them? no ... not a chance, I don't think I want that to happen but they will have to start school at some point. They can't just be running around all day long. Aiden is already vexed by it, just a day with them and he nearly lost it with me, but he seemed so sweet when I wasn't around... well, whatever. One way or the other, I will get through this. I exited my room quickly and headed straight for the childrens room. I opened it up without knocking, who cares, it my children's room, I don
CHAPTER 13. ~ NORA ~ My heart skipped for a moment when I though someone was watching me but luckily there wasn't anyone watching me. I checked the window again to be clear, but there was no one. When I looked forward a bit, I saw Aiden's car exit the compound. Finally he's gone. I have the house to myself. Well it not an achievement but freedom from his annoying gaze. I could do as I please, order maids around like as if I was actually their bosses wife. I prepared some snacks for the kids while did their usual dishes. It about time the got up and have their bath then prepare for breakfast. I hope they are okay? As soon I was done preparing the snack, I could hear lowly chatters coming from their room. I guessed they were already awake, I looked to the side and gestured to the other maiden to look after the snacks while I went to check on the kids. The maiden smiled at me and told me to look in a specific direction. It was the kids. Somehow they were freshened up and
CHAPTER 14 ~ NORA ~ I felt the wind against my skin. The balcony was cozy tonight. I sat down there with a glass of apple juice in my grasp. I felt drawn to this place, for some reason it felt odd. Every corner of the house came with nostalgia. Perhaps I might be loosing my mind but I am damn sure I am not loosing it. Everything just seem awkward for now. Sooner or later, things will go back to normal. It just.for a while. It first started with our First kiss... I don't even know whether to call that our first kiss... it doesn't fit to be our first kiss, the same all over again, like it happened before but I am unable to recall when , how and why it happened. I stroke the glass cup on my forehead a bit as I tried to make my memory work and give me a meaningful reply. There was nothing though but I can still fill it, trying to pull me to itself. Abruptly, I heard car horns coming down the mansion. “Aiden's home “, I said and stood up from where I stood to make sure
