Chapter Six

Cesar and Elyon sat in their favorite restaurant having lunch. Everyone at Sandoval Corporation had noticed this closeness between their boss and his personal assistant and there were rumors that the two of them were having an affair. It had gotten to Elyon but they dared not let it get to the boss.

Cesar was a wonderful boss and very friendly to his employees but he hated them making assumptions about him so they tried never to get on his bad side.

"I'd like for us to pick up your daughter from school again." Cesar informed Elyon.

"Why?". She asked.

"Because I feel like it?". He arched a brow.

"You can't do this Cesar." She sighed and shook her head.

"Why not?". He frowned. "Give me a reason."

"I don't want Miesa to get used to you." She said. "Children's hearts get broken quite easily."

"Are you saying that I'll break her heart?". He sounded hurt.

"You'll get bored of her." She said. "I'm her mother so I know what's best for her."

"I happen to like her." He retorted. "And I don't like many people."

"She's not a toy that you can play with and then drop when you feel like it Cesar." She argued. "Children tend to get attached quickly to people they like."

"Why are you being so difficult about this?". He rolled his eyes. "It's not like I promised to take her to Disneyland and I'm breaking said promise. I just want to see her again."

Elyon sighed and said nothing. She didn't want to argue with him.

“I know you told me her father is dead but what was his name?”. He questioned.

“this is the perfect time to tell him you dimwit!”. Her subconscious said.

“Hey!". Her inner goddess chided. "I don’t appreciate that tone of voice.”

Elyon stared at him wondering why he wasn’t letting it drop. “Why are we suddenly talking about my daughter?”. She narrowed her eyes at him. "Let's talk about something else."

"This happens to be the only topic I wish to talk about." He smirked.

"Then I don't wish to take part in it." Elyon said with a note of finality.

"Is he really a such a soft spot that you don't want to talk about him?". Cesar questioned after a minute. "I mean, a problem shared is a problem solved."

"He wasn't a problem. He wasn't even the man I saw myself having a child with." She snapped. "It just happened. Now drop it."

"Attraction only occurs when you happen to like someone even if just a little bit." Cesar told her.

"Should I call you Dr Sandoval now?". She smiled mockingly.

Cesar rolled his eyes. "Take advice from someone who knows what he's talking about."

"Then you liked all your conquests just a little bit hence the attraction eh?". She asked.

"I sleep with women I can stand." He said. "But that is not the case here with you."

"Did you perhaps take something you're not supposed to this morning sir?". Elyon arched a brow. "You're acting very weird."

"I'm intrigued by the mystery surrounding you Ellie love." He grinned. "Sue me."

"Love?”. She choked out, her eyes wide.

Cesar arched an eyebrow amused. “Out of everything I said.. that’s all you heard?”. His voice dripped with sarcasm. "You never cease to amaze me."

Ellie tried not to blush but failed. “You’ve never added an endearment to my name before so what did you expect?”. She tried to sound annoyed but didn’t quite get the effect she was going for. She didn't want him to think that she liked the endearment.

“Then I’ll call you Ellie love from now on.” He grinned at her mischievously.

“Please don’t." She looked appalled. "I’d rather not let the rumor mongers pick it up too.”

"Rumor mongers?".

Elyon sighed through her nose. "Forget it."

"You've piqued my interest. Talk." He ordered. "My employees talk bad about me behind my back?".

"No. They always have wonderful things to say about you." She replied. "I'm not a snitch."

"You just snitched."

"I didn't call names."

"But you will."

"Is that a challenge?". She demanded.

Cesar let out a masculine sigh and chuckled lowly. "Impressive diversion Miss Devane but it's not working." He told her. "We're talking about you."

"His name was Raul." She said snippily. "Happy?".

"You thought that up." He accused.

Elyon groaned and threw her hands up in frustration. There was nothing else she could do except leave.

"I'm done amusing you Cesar." She grabbed her bag. "I won't be used for your weird entertainment." She stood up.

"Where are you going?". He asked. "You've barely touched your food."

"Whose fault is that?". She hissed and walked away.

Cesar got outside and caught Elyon just in time as she was about to hail a cab and rushed over to meet her.

"What?". She snapped.

"I'm sorry for prying." He apologized. "I won't do it again."

Elyon pursed her lips and folded her arms. "I don't believe you."

"Just take my word for it." He said.

"Fine." She huffed.

"I'll take you." He took her hand and led her to his car without giving her a choice.

"Bossy much?". She asked as she got into the car.

Cesar grinned, winked her at her and shut the door then rounded the hood and got in behind the wheel, started the car and drove off.

Ten minutes later Cesar saw Elyon talking to a beautiful little girl and got out of the car.

He noticed that the girl frowned the way he did and smiled the way he did but it couldn’t be right?.

Maybe he was just imagining things.

”Oh my God it’s Cesari Sandoval!.” Miesa screamed ignoring her mother and ran to meet Cesar. "Oh my God!." She breathed in excitement.

"Okay…he was really imagining things". Cesar thought as he smiled at the little girl. "Hello Miesa.”

”Mommy he knows my name!”. Miesa squealed and hugged herself. "Can i…can I hug you?." She looked at him hopefully.

”Sure." Cesar nodded. What harm could a hug from an adorable little girl like her do?.

When Miesa hugged him,he felt kind of strange but quickly brushed it off.

”I’m a big big fan of yours." Miesa told him looking enthusiastic. "I watch every soap opera you star in but the one I like…no love best is Fiona!.”

”Really?". Cesar looked at Elyon. "You let your daughter watch Fiona when you don’t?”. He tutted, shaking his head. "Not cool Ellie."

”No of course not." Elyon shook her head.

”I watch it when she’s not there.” Miesa told him smiling impishly making Cesar laugh. "Can I um..get an autograph please?". She held out a book.

”Of course sweetheart." Cesar smiled at her, took out his pen and scribbled his signature on the book.

”Thank you." Miesa hugged her book to her chest. "Are you driving us back?”.

”Uh.. we’ll…” Elyon began.

“Yes". Cesar cut in.

”I’ll sit in front.” Miesa declared.

”You’re not six yet Mimi.” Elyon reminded her.

”Do you mind sir?". She fluttered her eyelashes at him.

”No I don’t sweetheart.” Cesar grinned and opened the passenger door for her.

She got into the car and quickly fastened her seatbelt then Cesar closed the door.

”She’s so cute.” Cesar remarked. "You did good Ellie.” He patted her cheek then he rounded the hood and got into the car.

“You won’t think so when I tell you the truth.” Ellie thought and got into the back and Cesar drove off.

”Did Fiona and Marco get back together?”. Miesa asked him.

”Yes her father finally agreed." Cesar said. "After Marco saved his life.”

”Knew it!”. She beamed.

”But you should really stop watching it." Cesar told her. "It’s not for cute little girls like you.”

”But I love it.” Miesa protested.

”I know you do but you’re too young for that.”

”Kay". She agreed grudgingly. "I’ll stop watching it if you keep coming to pick me from school?”.

”Mimi.." Elyon chided from the back.

”Do you promise to stop?”.

”If you promise to keep your promise." Miesa held out her pinky finger.

”I promise". He linked their pinkies together and felt that strange jolt in his gut again.

”Am I doomed or what?”. Elyon shook her head.
