Chapter 4

Sawyer was running a bit late to work. She did not mean to. Well she never really meant to run late for any job she had. Just things happened to turn out that way for her. She did not own a car.

She had to take a subway for everything. She dropped off her daughter at the day care center. Then she went off on her way to Donovan's part of town. She walked down to his driveway. There was a large gate in the front. She pushed her finger on the buzzer.

"Who is it? How may we help you?" some guard answers back right away.

"I am Miss. Carter. I am here to be Evan's new nanny" Sawyer replies back into the speaker.

No reply back. Suddenly she hears a buzzing noise. The large steel gates pull back, opening letting her on her way inside. She sees a large driveway that twisted and turned around the large home. She walked as quickly as she could move down the drive way.

She takes her head phones out of her ears. She had been listing to music on her way to work that day. She turns off her cell phone. Then places it in her coat pocket. She looked over Donovan's large home. Was it four stories? Five?

She could not tell. She worried she would get lost in a house like this one. She had to make sure she knew where everything was! She made her way to the front door at last. She pushes her finger on the door bell.

She hears a long ding-dong echo inside the home. She hears barking. Donovan had a dog? She did not really love dogs. But not really hate them either. She was a bit afraid of dogs. Maybe it was because she never had any pets of her own when she was growing up.

"Get back Norton! Back!" she hears Donovan ordering the dog at the door.

He opens the door. Why did he have to be so good looking? His blond hair was slicked back. He had on a devilish yummy suite on.

Was it real Italian? She could not help but wonder. Donovan's pretty brown eyes sparkled at her as he held back his little dog. The dog was panting with excitement to come over and see her.

"You have a dog?" she asks him.

"Oh Norton? Yes. Sorry I did not mention it. Why are you allergic to dogs?" he worries. She shakes her head.

"No, I am not. I never really have been around a dog. I kind of am...." just as she was going to say she was going to tell him of her fear, Norton managed to get away from Donovan. He came rushing at her. She squeals with a mix of fear and excitement at the same time. Norton licks her as he leaps on her leg.

"Down Norton! Down! I will take care of you!" Donovan demands to the disobedient dog. He grabs Norton by the collar, leads him to the little dog like lock up area.

"I am sorry about Norton. He gets really excited when new people come to the home" chuckles Donovan.

"I won't have to watch...Norton to will I?" worries Sawyer as she sees Norton was sitting there starring at her from behind his little doggy gate.

"No, I have a house keeper for that. Come this way. I will show you around. Then I have to be going to work" Donovan explains.

Sawyer felt a little better she would not have to be bounding with Norton right away. She was not really sure if she was going to be able to do so. Not yet.

"Here is the kitchen. I keep the baby formula in these cupboards' here. Then I have distilled water in the fridge for the bottles of course. Here is where the bottles are at" Donovan shows her around his elaborate kitchen.

She often saw these types of kitchens on cooking shows on her tv screen. She never had been in such a nice kitchen before.

"Where is Evan at?" she asks Donovan as they head onto the next room.

"He is napping in the nursery. I will show you his room" offers Donovan. He leads her up a long stair case. This was a lot to take in.

"With such a large home, I sure could get lost in this place" she chuckles.

"Well you might at first. The maids here if you need some help" mentions Donovan.

He leads her to a large bedroom. How was it this little infant child had a larger bedroom than she did in her own apartment? This child's bedroom was the size of her living room apartment. Donovan opens the door up to the bedroom. It was a darling little room.

"The room is adorable" gushes Sawyer to Donovan.

"I had it done up myself. I am glad you approve" Donovan says as he smiles her way.

The room had a light baby blue color to it. Little zoo animals were splashed here and there. There was a rocking chair over by the window. There was a wooden changing table.

There was a beautiful oak wood crib over in one corner of the room. This was truly a nursery she only dreamed of giving her daughter. She never had the funds to.

"Here is the little man" Donovan says as he breaks her train of thought. He looks down at his adorable sleeping son.

"Do you want me to try to keep him awake soon?" she wonders.

"Try to if you wish. I am not sure you can do much" chuckles Donovan.

"Well I will try my best" she offers.

"If you need me call my office right away. I am not sure how long I will have to be at work. I have a few board meetings I am going to have to attend to" Donovan mentions.

"That is fine with me. Have a good day. Evan and I will get to know each other" replies Sawyer as she smiles.

"Hope you do. Have a good day yourself" Donovan says cheerfully as he heads out the door. Sawyer looks around the place to make note of where everything was at.

Before long the day went by fast. She tried her best to keep sleeping Evan awake. But her attempts were weak. Norton was growing restless having to stay behind in the doggy cage. After awhile Sawyer softened up and allowed Norton to come out of his jail cell. The day care where her daughter was at soon calls her.

"Hello?" answers Sawyer.

"You are late to pick up Shelly. We are about to close" says Mrs. Carlson.

"Oh dear. I forgot the time. I have a new job. I will be right there alright?" groans Sawyer.

"See-that you do. If this happens again I will be forced to take action Miss. Carter" Mrs. Carlson warns her.

"I know. I am really sorry" Sawyer groans.

She hangs up. Evan. How was she going to go to the day care center with Evan to?? She had to call Donovan.

"Hello Spencer Enterprises'" answers his secretary.

"I need to speak with Mr. Spencer right away. On an urgent matter. This is his nanny" Sawyer demands.

"Just a moment please" the lady places her on hold much to her dismay.

"No! Don't put me on....hold" groans Sawyer. She could hear soft music playing. She taps her foot as she looks up at the clock. She still had to walk all the way to the subway. Then go to the day care center.

"Hello?" answers Donovan at last!

"Donovan! It is Sawyer! I have a favor to ask you" she rambles on.

"Alright what is the problem?" asks Donovan.

"It is a little past time for me to pick up my daughter Shelly. At day care. I need to head down there to pick her up" she worries.

"I can pick her up for you" offers Donovan.

"What? I could not ask you to do that" Sawyer says.

"Why not? I am already in town. I made you run late. Let me help out. I will be happy to swing by there for you" he offers.

"Really? You are not mad then?" she worries.

"Why would I be mad? I have a kid. I understand. Call the day care center. I will be happy to help" he offers.

"Wow thank you so much Mr. Spencer" she sighs happily.

"No problem. Give me the details on the place. I will be happy to pick her up" he mentions. Sawyer smiled. She was already loving her new job.
