I sat up on my cot, hugging my legs, wrapped in my blanket until I heard the door open and quiet, gentle, footsteps were walking toward me. I saw Gabrielle walking toward me with a tray in her hands. She had the key to my cell in one hand and a breakfast tray in the other hand. As she walked into my cell, she placed my tray on the bed and sat on the stool, “Don’t eat the biscuit. It has wolfsbane in it. It’s poison.” I gasped, “Why would they do that to me?” She explained, “I saw Luna Kate talking with Ayame in a corner of the kitchen. I’m sure the two of them are making sure you don’t get better.” I giggled, “The Moon Goddess beat them to it.” Gabrielle furrowed her brows, “What?” I giggled as I turned around to show her my back. She gasped as I felt her touch my back, “How did you heal so fast? You don’t have your wolf yet.” I answered, “The Moon Goddess healed me. I’m trying to act like it still hurts when Alpha or Luna come down.” She shook her head, “You are very special, Izzy. You are meant for greatness. I will protect you as much as I can, but I can’t do much. I will try my best for you.”
I finished eating and we talked about the chores and she told me that Doctor Miller stocked the kitchen first aid kit, without showing Ayame, “He knows Ayame is not a good person. He saw her beating the last slave. You should be ready for her to start hitting you soon.” I nodded in agreement, “I’ve been waiting for it since I got here. She never did look like she likes me.” She sighed, “She really doesn’t like anyone and I don’t know why.” I suggested, “I wonder if her mate rejected her.” Gabrielle’s eyes lit up, “You might be right!” I laughed, “I was only joking.” She shrugged, “I’m not. I don’t think there is anything that will make her happy now.”
Later that day, I was smiling, thinking I would get my itchy cast off tomorrow, when I started feeling uneasy. That was when I heard him walk into the dungeons. Alpha Ben approached my cell, growling, “You have not learned your lesson, I think.” I was being sincere when I asked, “What lesson? I know that I will never go to the doctor again. I thought that was why I was brought here?” He shook his head, “That was Luna Kate’s reason. My reason was to make sure you clear the plates as soon as we are done eating.” I nodded, “I will remember that, Alpha.” He unlocked my cell and took me back to that room. I steeled myself for the coming pain, because there was no way I would let him see a single tear. He sneered, “I’m putting you on the table. I want you face down.” He lifted me onto the table and positioned me spread eagle, arms and legs splayed wide. He tied each limb down and soon I was feeling the pain of a whip across my back. I refused to jump, flinch, scream or cry during the entire torture session. He cracked the whip, “You worthless runt!” The whip cracked, “Slut!” The whip cracked, “No one will ever want you!” The whip cracked, “Hideous!” The whip cracked, “No one will ever love you!” By the time he was done, I was in horrible pain and losing a lot of blood. I knew I would have to call on the Moon Goddess after he was gone.
He picked me up off the table by my hair and put me back in my cell, throwing me against the wall. I landed with my back against the wall, then turned to land on my cot, face down. I heard a sickening crack when I hit the wall, knowing something was broken. I laid there, not moving an inch, until Alpha Ben was out of my cell and out of the dungeons. I mind linked the Moon Goddess, “Dear Moon Goddess, would you please at least stop the bleeding on my back and heal whatever broken bone I have?” Selene appeared and a tear fell out of her eye as she looked at my back, “I will only partially heal your back as you need to see if Gabrielle will clean the wounds. It looks like he broke a rib near your spine. I will heal that for you.” I cried, “Thank you. I just don’t know why they feel the need to do this to me.” She shook her head, “I have no control over what they do, but know they will pay for everything they are doing to you and your reward will be worth all that you are going through.” I nodded, “Okay.” She healed my rib and I could feel that she took almost all of the sting out of my lash marks. At least he didn’t use the one with the claws. The tips of this one were dipped in silver this time, causing the lashes to sting more and the scarring to be worse than it would be without the silver.
After the Moon Goddess left, I started crying as I wondered if I would be able to survive this until I find my mate. I was beyond distraught when I heard light footsteps coming my direction. I hurried and wiped my tears, not wanting them to see me cry. When the person stepped in front of my cell, I lost my breath… Ayame. Can this day get any worse? I don’t know if I can take any more. She had a tray in her hands and I looked at her with a blank expression, “No, thank you. I’m not hungry.” She sighed, “Now, don’t be like that. I know you have to be hungry.” I responded, “I’m not. I will be fine. Please go away.” She laughed, “Oh, I’m not going anywhere, little bitch. You will not get away with disobeying me.” I furrowed my brow, “You never ordered me to do anything, so I’m not disobeying you. I simply saw the food and told you I wasn’t hungry.” She scowled, “Have it your way. No food for you right now. You are ordered, by the doctor, to eat three times a day.” I replied, “Then I will tell the doctor that I’ve been getting two meals per day, and each one has had wolfsbane in it or a razorblade. And I’m sure the one you are holding is no different.” She cocked her head to the side, “How did you know?” I laughed, “You aren’t very good at hiding it. I didn’t think you were trying to hide it.” She smiled, “I wasn’t trying to hide it. You would be better off dead with the life you are going to have around here.” I chuckled, “I’m sure that’s true, but it’s the path The Goddess is sending me on, so I will obey and I won’t complain.” She shook her head at me, “You are such a fool. You’ll be dead long before your first shift.” She walked away, laughing. I did the only thing I was capable of doing. I let the tears fall, silently crying.
It has been five years since my parents were killed. It has been five years since I was brought to this hell hole called the pack house. It has been five years of constant abuse; constant broken bones, constant lashes with either the silver dipped whip or the whip with the silver claws. I’ve been in the dungeons so many times that I have become friends with the guards in there. They smile after Alpha or Luna leave. They talk with me and joke around with me. They can’t stop what the Alpha and Luna do to me, but they do help me when they are ordered to hit me. I make the small noises that I make when the Alpha and Luna hit me while they crack the whip against the floor or in the air. I love them like brothers and they take care of me while I’m in the dungeons. They also make sure I don’t eat or drink wolfsbane. I also have another secret. I have been whipped and cut with silver so much that I am now immune to it. When I am in the dungeons, Alpha and Luna come down to whip me and Ayame c
I knew I couldn’t get through tonight without something happening. Tasha growled in my head, “Tell her to get out. She’s nothing.” I turned my attention to Ayame, “It’s none of your business. I wasn’t doing anything but getting some fresh air. That’s all.” She looked at me suspiciously, “Why would I believe that?” I explained, “I couldn’t sleep. Sometimes a walk helps me sleep. I don’t get to go outside during the day. I’m always too busy or I’m in the dungeons.” She shrugged, “Got it.” I asked, “Can I go to bed now? I’m really tired.” She stood up and walked toward me, “I’ll just find out from Gabrielle what you were doing. I know you weren’t meeting a man.” I furrowed my brow, “Ew. Gross.” Ayame laughed, “There is my answer to that. I guess I will take your word for it.” She walked out of the attic and I went to my bed and looked at it. I started looking around while Tasha was growling, “I don’t trust that bitch.” I answered, “I agree. Can you lend me your sense of smell to see if th
The next morning, I got dressed and ran downstairs. When I got to the foyer, there were two guards waiting there for me. I let myself smile at them because they were the guards from the dungeons. We got in an SUV and Doug, one of those guards, drove while the other guard, Andrew, rode in the passenger seat while I rode in the back seat. As soon as Doug drove away from the pack house, I smiled widely, “I almost missed you guys! How are you?” Andrew turned to Doug and laughed, “I love how she waited until after we were away from the pack house to start acting like herself.” Doug replied, “I think it’s sad that she can’t be herself or even happy in the house that she lives in.” I sighed, “I can be happy in my room or when I’m alone.” Andrew looked at me, “But it’s sad the Alpha and Luna won’t let you be happy all the time. You’re a good kid. You deserve to be happy.” I gushed, “Aw, thank you. You know what’s really sad?” Doug asked, “What?” I laughed, “That the dungeon guards are the only
It has been two years since I started cooking for the pack and Luna and Alpha have started keeping wolves from other packs from seeing me. Luna has been more verbally abusive than physically. Every time Alpha starts to grab my wrist to beat me, Luna stops him, “She can’t cook if she’s hurt.” I guess they like my cooking that much. When I asked Luna about blackberry bushes, she told the gardener to plant some. After the first time I made bread, Luna makes sure I have all of my ingredients all the time now. She also makes sure I have plenty of fruit for my cobblers and muffins. She has instructed that I keep muffins all the time now. She has Ayame and Gabrielle wrap them individually when I’m at school. Gabrielle has told me that Ayame keeps getting mad that she is cleaning up after me. When an Alpha from another pack comes, I have to take the day off school to cook dinner for that night, then run to my room and stay there until morning. Then I have to get up super early and make a big
It has now been four years since Ayame sliced me. The school counselor shocked Andrew and me by showing up and letting me take the exam to finish school early. I did ace it and earned my high school diploma two years early. I am still being beaten by Alpha and Luna, they are just keeping my hands, legs and face free of bruises. When pack members try to throw punches, I dodge and defend myself. They try to tell Luna on me and they are met with silence. Luna does not interfere either way anymore. Most days, I am cooking with broken or bruised ribs. Three days ago, they punctured one of my lungs and had to send me to the hospital. I was in the hospital for two days and got out, thanks to Tasha healing me. They tortured Ayame for what she did to me, but I guess the lesson didn’t stick. She did the same thing a year later. Alpha executed her that time. I guess you don’t get between Alpha and his food. Tasha was shocked that they did that, but she also made sure to tell me they weren’t doin
I turned seventeen two months ago and found out that no one in this pack is my mate and I am so happy for that. Although Luna Kate was quite disappointed. After all, if my mate had been in this pack, I could’ve kept cooking for them. I just wouldn’t be a slave anymore. They wouldn’t be able to hurt me anymore. The problem with that is the fact that I wouldn’t want to work for them anymore. I’m happy that my mate will be able to take me away from here. Now I just need to make sure he can find me, somehow. Tasha smiled in my head, “All you have to do is be around. He will scent you and be drawn to you.” I sighed, “I hope so. Hopefully, Luna won’t keep me hidden when there is company coming.” Tasha laughed, “Lady, don’t you know that your scent is all over this house?” I laughed, “I guess I need to walk around the house some more.” She grinned, “I was hoping you’d say that.” I started making my chipotle sauce for sub sandwiches and then started gathering the ingredients for them. I had m
After a full week and a half of total chaos in the pack house, I am really ramping up on trying to get my stuff together for the ball. Today is the day I get to go to the farmers market and I am so excited. I know I will be guarded; I just wonder who will be doing the guarding. After breakfast was done and dishes were washed, I went to my room and dressed in a sundress that Gabrielle had given to me for my birthday. I brushed my hair and grabbed my wallet and ran downstairs. I went to Alpha Ben’s office and knocked on the door. When I heard, “Come in, Isabel.” I walked in and smiled, “Alpha, I’m ready to go to the farmers market for the ball. Would it be possible to get the cash for the vegetables?” He nodded as he opened a desk drawer, “Here is two hundred dollars. Will that be enough?” I raised my eyebrows, “I am sure that will be enough. I would like to show you that my wallet is empty before I put the cash in it. When I get back I will make sure you get all of your change back.” He
Doug had brought in all of my purchases and I had to move them to the pantry until after lunch. The kitchen was smelling so good, I started humming as I worked. I prepared lunch and waited until Alpha Ben returned with the alcohol to serve it. After setting the table, I announced that lunch was ready and people started filing into the dining room. After everyone was done and the all the dishes were washing in the dishwasher, I pulled all the watermelons out of the pantry. I immediately put two watermelons into the spare refrigerator for the ones with no alcohol, then I sat four on the counter to wash. I washed each one, then I sat them aside, knowing Alpha wanted to help with it. I found my apple corer to help with the task. While I waited for Alpha and Luna to join me, I started rinsing the berries and sorting them. I put them in big bowls with lids after drying them on a paper towel. I put them in the spare refrigerator just when Alpha and Luna walked into the kitchen. Alpha Ben pl
