The path to the seniors' quarters was a bit dark. Charlie and I talked as we walked there together. She was boasting about how much alcohol she could handle. She was planning to get blindly drunk. I could not afford to drink too much since I was attending church at the chapel tomorrow. One thing I cannot afford right now is going to church with a headache from a hangover. The lights of the senior quarter gate were on, casting rays of light on the dark path that led to the drive. The last time I was here there were a few cars parked in the driveway but today there were like a dozen cars. The gates were closed as always but there were a couple of people standing outside pressing the buzzer, they weren’t people I recognized so I assumed they were from another school. Another benefit of being a final-year student is inviting people from other schools over. “I cannot wait to be a final year already! Just imagine all the free time we’ll have, the parties the private rooms, ugh I can’t wait
“So are you here with your girlfriend?” I asked the stranger who later introduced himself as Jackson. We were dancing along with a couple of other people who had given up on drinking and kissing. “Nope. I’m single actually and by the looks of it so are you.” His hands were on my waist and he was so close that we stood with our noses almost touching. I could tell that he had deep blue eyes and that his dark lashes were long in the dim light. I laughed at his words. “How would you know I’m single and not just cheating on my boyfriend with a rather handsome dance partner? It’s not like it is written on my forehead that I’m single and searching.” He laughed too, a deep rumbling sound that made my hands on his shoulders vibrate. “You don’t look like the kind to cheat besides if you had a boyfriend I would be on my face in my pool of blood in some dark corner here.” I chuckled. He was quite funny and very easy to talk to. Since Charlie left for food for us and I started talking with Ja
“What is it?” I asked her. She walked past me to the fridge that was inbuilt with the wall. Really Maximilian Edwin has a lot of money if he can afford inbuilt fridges in every senior's room, install washing machines, heaters, air conditioning units, induction cookers, all those good stuff inside each senior’s room. It must be good to be rich. I suppose that’s why Tyler can act anyhow he wants because daddy will always be there to supply him with loads and loads of money. Annabel pulled out a bottle of cold water, popped the cover and took a long gulp. “Martin and I are having a baby.” It felt like a heavy weight just dropped in my ear. Maybe I didn’t actually hear what I thought I did because Annabel was acting all normal gulping her water, slicing a piece of cake I had not even noticed was there before. “You and Martin?” “Yeah don’t sound so surprised that he is taking responsibility for his baby. Martin is very responsible, that’s the only
“Kiss. Kiss. Kiss. Kiss.” Johanna and another girl from St. Patrick’s both knelt at the center of the circle awkwardly trying to get closer to kiss. Some idiot had decided that the rule of the game was that the two people on whom the top and bottom of the bottle landed would have to kiss for 2 minutes and Charlie gladly offered to be the timekeeper. Jackson had produced a phone from his bag which he had earlier kept in Annabel’s room and gave it to her. Johanna and the other girl kissed and Charlie started the countdown. The noise we made as we joined Charlie in counting down drowned the noise of the party going on out. The bottle of whiskey was passed around as were cans and cans of beer. “Three, two, one!” They sprang apart. “Whoo!!” “Okay okay next. It’s my turn to spin,” Charlie declared. She got on her knees and spun the bottle. I held my breath and waited for the bottle to stop spinning. The top of the bottle landed on Charlie and the other on Martin. “What the heck?!” Ann
I used to think romance novels were silly. I mean you would agree with me that some things in romance novels don’t make sense. For example, whenever the main characters kissed the sensation of the kiss was described as an electric feeling and I always wondered why a kiss would feel like electric pulses in my veins and who wanted to feel shocked by electricity while they kissed? But right now I’m beginning to think that maybe I have been kissing the wrong people. A sensation started from my lips down to my fingers and all the way to my toes which I curled under the cover of my sneakers. What started as a kiss done out of necessity to fulfill the rules of a game suddenly took on a whole new meaning as I moved closer to Christian to feel his warmth as his hand crawled up my face to cradle my cheek. His lips were soft against mine but his kiss was anything but soft, it felt urgent and I responded with equal urgency, my hands were holding tightly to his shirt but somehow common sense kept
“Great!” Charlie exclaimed as she slumped against the notice board in the hallway connecting our class with the rest of the senior classes. She groaned as she pulled herself from the noticeboard. “You will not believe this.” It was Monday morning. We had just finished assembly and were waiting for our first class. There were a few students lolling around outside classrooms, some were looking out from the windows. Everyone was bored. Charlie and I were in the hallway to check the schedule for the week. “What is it?” I asked. I was momentarily distracted by Shewa and Jake at the opposite end of the hallway. They both waved when they saw me looking at them and I waved back now I was turning back to Charlie to see what had caused her distress. “Dude, exams start next week.” She pointed at the piece of paper that was pinned to the board. “Charlie, come on, you already knew that.” Before I could react she threw herself on me and slumped against my left side. I laughed. “Stop pretending l
Bea avoided by glare in the rearview mirror, as she should. She somehow had forgotten to tell me that we would be spending the weekend at the Edwins’ house especially since she knew about the drama that happened the drama that happened the first time we were there when Tyler had tried to force a kiss out of me. She peeped from the top of her phone and caught me still glaring at her and she immediately dropped her eyes back on her phone, pursing her lips as If she didn’t know why I was looking at her. Mom on the other hand was innocent and clueless about lack of enthusiasm at spending some time with ’My friend from school’. “They have this very massive swimming pool honey, I think you saw it the last we went there. And I heard they just built a tennis court.” “Oh really?” I said sweetly. “That sounds like another thing Bea forgot to mention.” “Really?” I could see Mom’s frown from the rearview mirror. She quickly glanced at me and then turned her attention back to the road. “Beatric
“I suddenly wish I had gotten the peach gown instead.” Bea was holding up the blue gown she had chosen yesterday. She had been to one to insist that she wanted the dress even though it was very expensive. I already knew the color wasn’t going to look good on her, it made her skin look pasty. She threw the gown over the chair that faced the dresser. “What can I do now?” She looked up at me. I was already dressing up for the dinner party that was about to start in just one hour. “Jess,” she started looking through her lashes at me. “Let’s switch clothes.” “Oh hell nah,” I laughed. “We are not kids anymore.” My gown was a very rosy shade of pink that added a slight rosiness to my skin, the bodice was sewn in a wrapped style and the skirt was short and I had chosen some heeled sandals with silver straps to go with it. “Besides my gown was made for a tall girl.” “Oh fuck you Jessica Underwood. Whatever.” She crossed the room and picked up the stilettos she bought yesterday, they added a
