Chapter Five

Noah placed his hand on the small of my back, causing a jolt of electricity to run through my veins. He led me into the entrance of the hall.

The party was in full swing. The room was filled with food, music and te smell of deliious food. I put my hand through Noah’s as we made our way to where Bella was with two elderly people. The man looked strikenly familiar, almost like an older version of Noah. His features were sharp, and his salt and pepper hair was styled perfectly. The woman beside him was eqally stunning, with her hair tied in a neat bun and her outfit elegantly draped around her slender fram.

“Eliana, these are my parents,” Noah introduced me with a smile.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” I said feeling slightly nervous.

His mother pulled me in a tight embrace, suprising me.

“The pleasure is ours. So this is my future daughter-in-law.” She said, her warm voice calming my nerves instantly.

His dad studied me with the same calculative gaze Noah wore most of the time, before breaking into a smile.

“Nice to see you are real. I was beginning to think Noah was never going to get married.”

We laughed, Noah’s sounding strained. He looked a bit uncomfortable.

We chatted for a while, his dad asking me about Europe and me being clever enough to make up things due to my research. Thank heavens I did some research.

After a while, Noah escused us to meet some of his acquaintances. We made our way across the room, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as Noah introduced me to everyone we met.

My eyes caught a certain brown haired lady as she made her way towards us. Her red dress hugged her figure tightly. I couldn’t believe my wish came true.

I felt a sense of dread as she stopped right in front of us, as smile plastered on her face as she drank in Noah’s features.

“Noah.” Shauna placed her hand on his shoulder, completely ignoring my presence.

“Shauna.” His tone bored.

She obviously didn’t get the hint, slowly trailing her fingers down his arm.

“Its been a minute, you never called back after that night,” she purred, batting her fake eyelashes.

It was amusing to see my boss embarrass herself this way.

Noah took this as a chance to introduce me, “Shauna, this is my fiancée Eliana,”

Her face turned white as she looked at me in shock. “Eliana?” she half-shouted, her eyes growing wide.

It’s about time. I couldn’t help but smirk at her reaction.

“Thia is impossible! It’s a joke right?” she queried, looking completely embarrassed .

She scoffed, disgust written all over her face as she looked me over.

"Are you seriously picking her over me? This ugly rat?"

Noah shot her the nastiest glare I've ever seen him do.

"Mind how you talk to my fiancée, Shauna." He gritted out.

"But…"

Noah completely ignored her, pulling me along as he walked away.

I felt her gaze on my back, a wave of uneasiness washing over me. As we walked away, Noah's grip on my hand tightened, and I could tell he was angry.

We spent the rest of the night in silence. I sipped on my third glass of coctail, replaying the whole event in my head.

Why did he stand up for me? Wasn't Shauna his girlfriend?

I was really confused, and I couldn't ask him for answers. I looked over to him. His face grim as he looked at the people dancing.

I cleared my throat, the effect of the cocktails already kicking in.

"Excuse me, I need to use the restroom."

He said nothing, leaving me to find the restroom.

I finally found it after asking the waiters.

The restroom was surprisingly empty.

As I finished up and washed my hands, someone entered into the restroom.

My heart started racing as I heard the sound of the door locking. I turned to look at the person who had just entered and my eyes widened in surprise. It was Shauna. She stood there, leaning against the door, a sly smirk on her face.

"What do you want, Shauna?" I asked, trying to keep my tone steady.

"You think you're so special, don't you?" she sneered. "Noah can have anyone he wants, yet he chose you. You're just a nobody."

I felt a wave of anger rising within me but I tried to stay calm. "I don't know what your problem is, Shauna. Noah and I are in love and we're getting married. You need to accept that and move on."

Shauna just laughed. "You're delusional if you think Noah loves you. He's just using you to make himself look good. But don't worry, he'll get bored of you soon enough and then he'll come back to me."

"Are you sure? We are getting married in a month." I showed her the engagement ring sitting perfectly on my finger.

Shauna's smirk disappeared as she saw the engagement ring. "That doesn't mean anything," she said, trying to regain her composure. "He's probably just settling for you because he can't have me."

I could feel my anger boiling over. "You're disgusting, Shauna. Cant you see? He doesnt want you. He can barely stand you."

I walked closer to her, smiling slowly as her eyes showed the anger she was feeling.

"He," I dragged out.

"Wants" I flipped my hair over my shoulder.

"Me."

I made my way towards the door but Shauna pulled my hair back, slamming me against the wall.

"So now you think you are better? You are nothing but a poor slut." She sneered. I tried getting away from her but she tightened her grip on my hair.

I yelped in pain as she flipped me over, hands grabbing my throat.

"Shauna" I tried to say but I felt my consciousness slip away.

The last thing I remember before blacking out was Noah rushing in, his face twisted in anger.
