His lips were inches away from mine. I froze, the sensation I felt going through my body was something I never felt before. The moment was broken when his Beta knocked on the door and walked in. The Alpha pulled himself off of me. The Beta looked at me with the same devious smile as before. I gave him an annoyed stare in return.
He looked shocked and amused at the same time “she has some balls doesn’t she” he said.
I saw them talking through the mind link. I remained seated on his bed. Waiting, again.
“Stay here,” the Alpha said, commanding. I sighed and nodded in reply. His beta stayed with me.
“What’s your name?” I asked him. Only he gave me a weird look in response. “Sorry, what’s your name, Beta.”
He chuckled briefly. “Carson, I hope you don’t have that tone when you’re with the Alpha.”
“Maybe, I try not to,” I said with a laugh. “When is he coming back?”
“You miss him already?” He asked with a smirk.
“No, not really, I don’t know.” I looked confused, I was confused. Do I miss him? No, or do I? “I just don’t know what he wants from me.”
Carson wanted to say something but stopped himself. I saw his eyes flicker while he sniffed the air.
“What is it with all that sniffing the air constantly? Do I smell or something?”
“Again, with the attitude,” he said with his same smile.
“Again, with that weird smile.” I crossed my arms and sighed.
Normally, I’m not this bitchy, I didn't know what was happening to me.
For the next hour, Carson and I remained quiet. I saw him talking through the mind link a couple of times, but he didn’t say another word to me. It was almost dinner time and I was getting hungry. And we all know what happens when a she-wolf gets hungry. I was getting more annoyed by the second. Carson noticed I was getting restless. He stood up and took my hand, lifting me from the bed
“Come on let’s get something to eat,” he said.
All the tables were set, and a large buffet table was filled with food. My stomach started rummaging. Carson noticed and picked up a plate and filled it with some food. I did the same and followed him. We went out the back and sat down on the grass.
“I don’t think we're allowed to eat inside,” he said.
“You mean I’m not allowed,” I said with a small laugh.
I quickly finished my plate, still feeling hungry. I looked over to the dining hall through the window. I sighed, there were already people inside. I knew I couldn’t get any more food. Carson got up and took my plate.
“Wait here,” he said with a wink before he walked back inside.
When he came back outside, with two filled plates of food. I smiled and grabbed one of the plates he was offering
“Thank you, Carson.”
His smile was kind this time. No more devious grin. Nobody ever took care of me.
“When do you turn eighteen?” He asked.
“Two days,” I said with my mouth filled with food.
“Are you nervous?”
“For what?” I asked.
“For finding your mate.”
I thought about what he said, I never thought about finding my mate, only about leaving this place. “No actually.”
He let out a laugh.
“Why?” I asked him, keeping my eyes on him.
“Some do everything to find their mate. Especially she-wolfs.”
“I don’t need a mate to feel complete. Did you find your mate?” I asked him.
“No, I haven’t. Neither has Ares,” he said with a sigh.
“Who is Ares?”
He let out a laugh. “Of course, he hadn’t introduced himself. The King Alpha, Alpha of all Alpha’s, his name is Ares,” he said with an attitude.
The name sounded familiar, “God of war,” I mumbled.
“You know your Greek mythology I see,” he said.
“I don’t know much about my birth parents. But I do remember the bedtime stories they told me. About the gods. I don’t know why. One of them was the story of the god of war, Ares, and his redemption. That he was cursed to walk this earth alone. His love, Aphrodite, would be lost and kept from him. He wouldn’t even recognize her, even if she stood before him. Kind of a sad story. Not really a bedtime story as I think of it,” I said with a chuckle.
I saw Carson thinking it over, “maybe, he will find her. Someday.”
He got up and reached his hand out to mine, “Come on, we have to go back.”
I took his hand and pulled myself up. We walked back inside and he pointed to the stairs. He went back into the dining room to take the plates back. I was just about to walk up the stairs when I heard the same heavy footsteps as before.
“Why aren’t you upstairs?”
His voice made a shiver run down my spine. I turned around. Meeting Ares's eyes, his eyes were a dark brown color with hints of gold. The gold flecks were swirling. I noticed I was staring and that I didn’t answer his question. He moved closer, lifting me up over his shoulder, and walked up the stairs.
“I’m perfectly capable of walking up the stairs myself,” I said, annoyed.
“Look who found her voice back,” he responded.
I chuckled at what he said. He walked toward his room, placing me back on my feet before the door. He didn’t let go of my waist, keeping me close to him. I carefully placed my hands on his chest.
“So, you’re a god I hear,” I said with a playful smile.
He pushed me against the door with his body against mine. He opened the door, making me fall backward. He grabbed me by my waist while walking through the door opening. He closed the door behind him, locking it.
I felt myself getting nervous. Why would he lock the door? His eyes were darker than before. He lifted me up, placing my legs around his waist. I placed my arms around his neck in response. He walked over to the lounge chair that was in the corner. He sat down with me on his lap.
He gently tucked the lost hair strain behind my ear, lifting my head up by placing his hand under my chin. Goosebumps rose on my arms.
I saw he noticed them and smiled.
“Do I make you nervous?” He asked, softly.
“Maybe, I don’t know what you want with me.”
I saw him thinking it over, “I don’t know yet, but I would like you to stay here. With me.”
He pulled me closer, he placed his head on my neck. Sniffing me.
“Again, with the sniffing,” I said.
He let out a growl. His grip on me tightened. I tried to squirm out of his grip, but it only made his grip hurt more. With me not finding my wolf, I hurt pretty easily.
“You’re hurting me, Ares.”
He released his grip. The expression on his face changed, he didn’t mean to hurt me. He stood up, placing me back on my feet. He didn’t say a word. He left. He just left the room. I stood there, what just happened? I let out a breath and sat back down. What is up with him?
When it was almost midnight, someone knocked on the door. It startled me, I haven’t seen Carson or Ares.
“Come in.”
The headmistress walked in, “come on Jamie, time to go” she said while pointing to the doorway. “But he said I needed to wait here” I responded, not moving an inch. The head mistress looked annoyed and walked towards me, she gripped my arm and lifted my op on my feet, “move you little brat” she said while pushing me in front of her. I walked out of the room. Waiting for her to follow. She walked down the stairs and I followed. We walked towards the basement. Great, I have to sleep in the basement. She opened the basement door, “you can sleep down there with the rest. There are some new clothes for tomorrow.” I nodded and walked downstairs. Everyone was already there. I saw Liza and ran over to her. She hugged me tightly, “how was your day?” she asked. “Weird but fine and yours?” I replied. “I needed to clean like everything,
"Come on get out. We need to go shopping," Carson said, annoyed. "Shopping?" I said, confused. "Do you have anything other than those stupid dresses? And I think we should get something for your birthday tomorrow." I gave him a death stare, "fine." "Are you going to leave the bathroom, or do you want to hold my hand?" I asked him. He gave me a small growl and left the bathroom. I walked out of the bathroom in the ripped dress. I saw some clothes on the bed. I walked over and grabbed them. I took the dress off, I didn’t even notice Carson was still in the room. He startled me. "F*ck why are you still here?" I placed the dress in front of me, covering myself. He moved closer, "it’s not like I haven’t seen it before." He gave me his devious smile. "Just wait outside," I said with an eye roll. A sigh left his lips before he walked out of the room. The shopping was kind of fun. We went to one of the big towns nearby. The shops we went to were way too expansive for me, but Carson
When I woke up, Ares was still asleep next to me. I felt my wolf stirring in my mind. I tried to reach her. This was the day I could find my mate. I never thought about it before, “stupid Carson,” I mumbled under my breath. I know the stories, how you recognize your mate instantly. I looked over at Ares hoping everything would fall into place, but nothing happened. I sighed in disappointment. With how he acted, I hoped I was his mate. I quietly got out of bed and got dressed. Maybe Carson is my mate, but then again. Why would Ares be like this? Why would he claim me as his own if I’m not his mate? I gave Ares one last look before I left his bedroom, hoping again for some sort of mate bond. I walked downstairs towards Carson’s bedroom. But was stopped by the head mistress. A small growl left my lips when she grabbed my arm. I saw I startled her with my growl. “Don’t you have that tone with me, missy,” she said disapproving, but with a hint of fear in her voice. Something I have neve
“But you are also mine. You have to be.” Ares followed quickly. He looked annoyed at Carson. My body started to itch because of the warmth, “can someone please open a window,” I said. Ares walked towards me, lifting me up in his embrace. I felt my body relax again, the warmth slowly settling down. “How do you recognize your mate?” I asked Ares. “Your wolf recognizes your mate instantly” Ares responded, keeping me in his tight embrace. “Hasn’t your wolf said anything?” Carson asked. I shook my head, “she’s been quiet.” I looked up to Ares, “does that mean I can choose, that it’s my decision?” I saw Ares’s eyes started to fill with anger “Yes, it is,” Carson said. “I’m not sharing,” Ares growled to Carson “It’s her choice, not yours,” Carson growled in return. “stop it! It’s my choice Ares. You can't make me,” I buried my face in his neck, inhaling his scent. I felt his heart beat slow down again. I heard my stomach rumble. I could heard Ares chuckle, “Hungry?” he asked. I l
I walked towards the edge of the forest behind the orphanage. I looked around, making sure I was alone before taking off my clothes. I was waiting for Rhys to take over, I was completely naked and nothing happened. ‘What are you waiting for,’ I said, annoyed at Rhys. I could hear her laugh before I could feel my bones breaking. I fell to the ground. I know the stories of the first shift. The pain you have to go through. I screamed out. My bones started to realign. My body covering in fur. My breathing was heavy, and my sight started to change. My hands were replaced by paws. The ground felt different. Everything felt different. It felt empowering being in this form. My fur had a gold shimmer running through it. I started running through the forest. I never felt freer than at that moment. The wind brushed through my fur. I had never been this far out before. I could hear water running. I tried following the sound. I gasped at the sight of this beautiful waterfall. I heard something
He looked at me with a smile, “do you really have to ask? I think you know by now how he is. Especially when it comes to you.” “I thought you mind linked him back.” Confusion was written all over my face. “I did, but he was still mad,” he said with a chuckle. “Did he hurt you this morning?’’ I asked him, concerned. “I believe he would never kill me, but he is still the god of war,” he said with an eye roll. “So, it’s true?” I asked. “It's not my place. You should really talk to him,” he said with a sigh. We walked inside. I wanted his touch. But he wouldn’t let me hold his hand. He was right, I shouldn’t have annoyed Ares this much. The entire packhouse looked like a mess. As if he tossed everything around. Carson pointed to the stairs. “Is there anywhere else than his bedroom I could talk to him?” I asked with an eye roll. I could hear Carson laugh at my comment. “He’s not as romantic as me,” he said with a wink. I made my way upstairs, and when I reached the top of the sta
I saw Carson running toward us, gripping Ares’s. I tried pushing Ares off me. Squirming underneath him. I felt his canines piercing my skin. The tingling sensation became stronger, running through my body like a fire that had awoken. When his canines pierced through my bone I felt my body go numb and weak. I saw Carson stepping back, while a tear ran down his cheek. Ares took my choice away. It was my decision, not his to make. Ares retrieved his canines and sealed the marking with his tongue, instantly healing it. He slowly moved off me. I knew he could feel my anger towards him. “I'm sorry, I had to do it,” he mumbled with regret. I pushed myself up, walking towards Ares and slapping him full in his face. “How could you? It was my choice. You knew what I wanted,” I said, trying to control my anger. A small growl left his lips, “I won’t share, you know that. You’re mine, only mine.” “I’m not yours, this mark doesn’t make you own me. It means nothing when it’s not done out of lov
Ares POV Maybe I shouldn’t have done what I did, but I need her to remember. She needs to see who we are to each other. With every life I lived, I lived in search of her, and every time I died alone. Waking up again in the same body, living the same life. I’ve seen everything, seen kingdoms rise and fall. But never my love. Until now. I won’t share her. I had to share her with her husband before. To be honest, without his knowledge. I chuckled at the thought. “He was never good enough for her,” my wolf, Gideon, said with a growl. “No, he wasn’t,” I mumbled. She will see that we are meant for each other. We are each other’s redemption. To get out of this life and be gods again. I never loved anyone else before or after her. And I never will. Nobody can compare to her. We are meant for each other. She always challenged me. Even now, before she knew who she was, of who I am to her. She never feared me, only loved me. Accepted every part of me. There was a loud knocking on my door. I
