I watch in horror as Rose’s face pales and turns a slight grey-green color. Her pupils blow out almost immediately. Her breathing turns shallow and fast and her heart sounds like it is going to beat out of her chest. Her eyes are not focused on me, and I rub her arms trying to get her attention. It doesn’t work. I snap my fingers in her face, that doesn’t work either. Finally, I pat her cheek, trying to move her focus. But again, nothing. Then I realize, she is staring at the group that just came out of the elevator.
