Chapter 10

WREN

“You’re getting pretty good with that thing.” Lucius points to my bow as we walk back to the village.

He’s carrying the deer I killed on his shoulder. “Keep this up and we’ll have food for a month.” He quickly smiles.

I look down, smiling. “I want to do my part. I like it here. I like the people. I want to help.”

He leans in. “Thank you.” He backs off and we continue to walk out of the forest into the clearing.

As we entered, we heard shouting.

“RAIDERS!! RAIDERS!”

Screams rose from the village.

“Raiders?” I look at Lucius.

“Fuck!” He dropped the deer and ran.

With a hop, I ran right behind him.

When we got to the village, people were running everywhere.

“GET THE CHILDREN OUT NOW!” Lucius yells as we enter the village.

Then I saw them. At least fifteen men with weapons. Fighting our men, ransacking supplies. Raiding houses. Women scream as the run with children in their arms.

Lucius immediately started grabbing men and hitting them. Throwing them across the village center.
