B.2 CH 8 – Dad

JOHN

“You … you gave him my parents’ names?” He asked my mother in astonishment tilting his head in her direction.

Mama just shrugged her shoulders.

“It just felt the right thing to do. Your mother was like a mother to me while I was here. Her name wasn’t so used in our country, so I gave him your father’s name, too.” Mama said. “Well, in Greece, we call him Yianni, but he was baptized as Ioannis. I used to call him Johnie as a child, now I call him John.” She elaborated following us in the office.

“What name do you prefer, son?” He asked me, sitting next to me on the couch.

“John is fine, Dad.” The word dad just slipped out of my mouth, but it felt so natural.

“Did you just call me dad?” He asked me with his eyes widening in surprise. I nodded. Shouldn’t I?

“Thank you.” He hugged me again. “And thank you, too, lo… Ariadne. This… Today… This was an unexpected gift. Never in my wildest imagination could I think of having a son. And you … you to be back. My prayers were heard. Thi
