Chapter 3

I can't focus on the lesson now that my friend is constantly peeping at the window, she's throwing off my mind and I couldn't discern what she's trying to imply by telling me the same name that I heard with the girls at the comfort room earlier. A sudden noise echoed in the school grounds which caught my interest, and there I saw a flock of students facing the stage, holding up some banners and balloons.

What's with them? Is there a popular boy band who will perform?

Curiosity envelops me, hoping to know what's with the event and wild crowds.

I turned my gaze to my friend, her sparkling green eyes kinda annoyed me when she gawked at the window. This girl is attentive to any happenings on this campus, while I don't have any idea. Aisie is enthralled to the point that she's already clutching my arm badly.

"Aisie, it hurts," I whispered and pulled my arm away from her.

She apologized to me but persisted to let her eyes settle on the window. Should I volunteer to change our seats? It's kinda bothersome to see her facing me in my peripheral vision.

And to tell you frankly, I don't know that there's an upcoming event for seniors that will be held this afternoon. I didn't even notice the preparation they'd done when I walked past the field earlier.

Possibly because I don't really care about what's going on in my surroundings, eh?

A few of my classmates are also trying to take a look outside without even realizing that our lecturer has already stopped speaking and now, she's eyeing us with a fuming madness. I will not be shocked if she suddenly throws them a piece of chalk.

"Class!"

The entire class halted when our teacher went ballistic. Told you, don't make the terror professor teach you a lesson.

"Are you gonna listen to my discussion or I'll kick you out of my class which is equivalent to failure in this subject?!"

I elbowed Aisie's arm. Her eyes were sealed at the crowd outside.

"Alright, if I detect anyone in this class gazing outside that window, I swear that I'll give you a failing grade which means retaking this subject!" she yelled and fixed her big round glasses.

"Ms. Mirambel looks like a wrestler every time she gets frantic," Aisie murmured, which provoked me to pinch her waist. It's a nice thing that we're sitting at the back of the class, and Ms. Mirambel wouldn't notice us that easily.

"Why does it look like you want to join the crowd?" I asked in a low voice while maintaining my eyes on our instructor.

"Xalent and some of his classmates will burn the stage—I mean, perform. The seniors have an early celebration. You know, they only have six months left before their graduation."

I slowly nodded my head. Time really flies so fast.

By the way, who is Xalent? Do I even know him? I abruptly recall that it's not the first time hearing that kind of name, and that's why it sounds familiar.

I simply diverted my eyes to the packed field. There were two grand speakers, so we can listen to everything. However, why didn't they hold this event at the auditorium? Knowing that they will somehow distract classes that are close by, like ours.

The crowd dropped in stillness as someone began to strum the guitar strings. We all heard it since they have these "giant speakers". As an impact, everyone in the class screamed and went to our window.

I got a glimpse of our teacher's response. She looked stressed and decided to fix her things before taking off our class. I assumed that she can't really avoid my classmates in terms of something like this, eh? Well, good luck to us tomorrow.

That teacher takes satisfaction in granting us a surprise test that has 50 items every time we pissed her off.

A familiar hoarse voice reverberated in my ears as he greeted the crowd. I turned to look at it but I could barely see who was on the stage because of the banners.

"This song…" someone plucked the keys. "Well, have you ever wondered about falling in love with a person who's really close to you…let's say your boy best friend? You are afraid to tell him what you truly feel toward them because you're scared to lose the friendship you have. Anyhow, you are still fortunate to have them in your life. Let's sing this song for everyone who's lucky to have their best friends!"

My heart melted as he commenced with the song by Jason Mraz entitled "Lucky". The crowd went wild as his voice filled the grounds. I can hear him too since my classmates decided to open the window to hear them clearly. I nearly choose to put an earbud in my ears because of the yelling matches, yet I don't want to because his voice is deliberately giving me that tranquility in my heart. How so?

I wanna recognize the vocalist. For the first time in my entire life on this campus, an individual successfully snatched my interest.

As he sings the chorus, my heart skips its proper beat. His precious deep voice can effortlessly wrap up a woman's heart, and mine is not an exception.

"Xalent!"

"Gosh! I wanna have a better view!"

"He's really a good singer."

The phrases of my classmates blew my mind. I'll always keep that name in my mind from now on.

When the music ended, everyone gave them a round of applause and cheering. Some were even shouting at the members of the band, and something like; Marry me, Xalent!

"Do you wanna ask for more, seniors?!"

I swallowed hard because he was kinda tempting me to scream out my excitement with the wild crowds.

"Well, all I wanna tell you is that…I'm yours no matter what happens."

The cue of his words made my heart beat rapidly. Even though he's not talking to me, it feels like it was. A faceless human being with a wholesome voice for me is the most attractive person I wanna have.

The songs they descant are all from Jason Mraz's album. I was overwhelmed by the guy's remarkably deep voice. He has the right to be known in this academy for that way of singing. I'm sure that he's more handsome than other boys—and probably, he's truly a man, not just a "boy".

Is he even part of our school band? If so, I have an opportunity to search for him on the website.

The wild crowd perished when the professors and guests began their speeches. While our last subject for today started.

Mr. Lukas only gave us an experimental group activity so we went to the laboratory to proceed with our activity. Thereupon submitting our papers, he already dismissed us.

"Hey, bestie. What do you think of Xalent earlier?" Aisie asked as she clung her arms to me. "Did I see your eyes glitter earlier? Does that voice change the bookworm and self-centered soul, hmm?"

I rolled my eyes and held the straps of my backpack. This is why I don't wanna let out any kind of scream earlier. Aisie loves teasing me every time she discovers something new to me or changes.

As we walked down the field, the supreme student's organization was already cleaning up the mess. Plastic bottles, confetti, banners, plastics, and other junk are everywhere in the area. Why do students even leave their trash unethically? Can't they take it with them and throw it in the proper place—like a garbage can?

I shook my head as we led the way out of the campus. This day is kinda tiring, but I certainly enjoyed it earlier, I would never fabricate that. I took my phone out while walking and texted Mister Gardoz to pick me up, he shortly replied declaring that he was already at the gate.

"So, chat with you later, friend?"

I rolled my eyes at Aisie. "You know that I'm not fond of that. If you wanna talk with me, you can—"

"Go to your house instead of phoning you." She made a face that made me giggle a bit. "Yeah, I know, Missy. You always tell me that, no need to remind me, Momma."

"I'm not your mum," I denied and pinched her waist. "Alright! Let's part our ways here, goodbye! Be safe."

She nodded and waved her hand. "Bye-bye, little nerdy!"

"I'm not a nerd!"

She shrugged her shoulders while walking directly to their car.

"Good afternoon, Lushiane," Mister Gardoz greeted and opened the backseat door. I only smiled at him and hopped into the car.

The man's angelic voice echoed at the back of my head when I attempted to shut my eyes. It's kinda irritating! I can't get him off of my head. To calm myself, I diverted my gaze at the window but it came to be a huge mistake. My jaw dropped in awe as I saw him for the second time today.

A-are they k-kissing?!
