7: She’s my Mate

KAI

As expected, all of them fell quiet and they all turned to me with expressions full of disbelief.

Even Levi sat up straighter as he looked at me with an expression I couldn't decipher.

"What do you mean she's your mate?" Denis asked, his tone incredulous.

"Exactly what it means, she's my mate, my fated one, the one I've been searching for all these years."

There were collective gasps and their expressions mirrored shock and disbelief.

Those two were an understatement to what I felt when I discovered that she was my mate.

It was the least expected thing, something I never thought could be possible but the minute I stepped out of my hiding under the rain, the first thing that assaulted my nose was the divine and heavenly scent that was coming from her.

I knew it was impossible for someone to smell that good alone and my wolf senses immediately picked up the fact that she might be our mate.

Everything about her felt magical and divine and out of this world that I could see literal stars and glow emanating from her body and the closer I got to her, the more my wolf unrattle within me, the more it became more agitated with the need to claim her right on that spot.

I could understand his agitation and excitement. This was someone we've been searching for all our lives and here she was, the Moon Goddess brought her to us when we least expected it.

Standing close to her had neatly made me lose my focus, had nearly made me forget the reason why I was standing close to her because she was so damn pretty and the mate bond between us was so intense that I could hardly think of everything else.

But eventually, I was able to infest her with the wolf venom, and that made her pass out immediately. She collapsed unto my hands and I've never been more unsettled by holding a woman close like that before.

It had felt like our bodies were naked and intertwined in the deepest throes of passion.

I carried her off and brought her to our world and leaving her alone in her room was a very difficult thing to do because I wanted to stay with her, I wanted to feel her skin, I wanted to get lost in her existence.

I guessed that's how the mate bond works and I could only conclude that our ancestors were so lucky that all of them got to experience that mate bond.

"Wow, that's unbelievable," Denis gushed, "are you sure she's your mate? Is there..."

"Do you take me for a fool? Do you think I'm not competent enough to be able to recognize my own mate?"

"Of course not, Alpha, I'm just... It's just a great news, that's why and it's just... Unbelievable that after all these years, the moon goddess finally answered our prayers."

That made the elders burst into boisterous cheers and excited applause and even though I tried to keep my smile at bay, I couldn't stop my lips from stretching into a smile.

All these years, I've always felt less than a leader because of the impending boom that my inability to find my mate was imposing on our werewolf race but now, I had found my mate and every other thing was secondary.

"Congratulations, Alpha Kai," Luca congratulated me, "you've made us proud, you've saved us from going extinct."

More congratulations rang out from the elders and I nodded my approval at them. It was only Levi that remained quiet and static and I guessed it was because there was nothing he'd taunt me about again. After all, he was always reminding me how I'd failed Eden City with my failure to find a mate.

I genuinely think that Levi did not care that much about ceasing to exist as long as it meant I had failed.

And to think things used to be so great between us.

They all have dazed expressions on their faces and I can't blame them because I was sure they were all losing hope already seeing how I was already close to my 30th birthday.

"But a human as your mate? Who would have thought?" Luca voiced out and I agreed with him.

That's what even made it very difficult for me to believe at first because it was totally baffling how a human being was my fated one but I guessed Nadine was no ordinary human seeing how the city she wanted to build in her world was really Eden City.

I was completely taken aback when the document slipped out of her bag while I was placing her on the bed and I picked it up to see that exactly what Eden City looked like here was what she was building as her Eden City when I was sure that she has never seen Eden city before and she has no idea what it looks like.

I knew she must have a tie to this werewolf world seeing how she's my mate and how Eden City existed in her subconscious but I had no intention of bringing that up until I confirm whatever it is by myself.

"I know but the ways of the Moon Goddess can never be questioned. Everything is already predestined and I'm sure everything happened so Kai can finally cross paths with her."

That, I did not doubt in the slightest bit.

"So, what's the next step? You have to get married to her, and get her pregnant to seal the prophecy."

Now, that was going to be a very big problem because I was so sure that she'd never want to have anything to do with me when she had seen my claws and my eyes change color.

And this wasn't her world, I couldn't just keep her here without her permission because I didn't want our race to go extinct.

"I'll figure that out," I replied, standing to my feet, "right now, I have to return back home."

"Yeah, of course, you have to return back to you mate," Denis smiled at me as they all nodded and I walked out of the hall.

I was almost at the front door when I felt someone following me and I instantly knew who it was.

Elder Luca.

I turned back to him.

"Alpha Kai, I must say that I'm incredibly proud of you and happy that you've finally found your mate," he congratulated me sincerely, like a proud father and I nodded generously.

"Thank you, Elder Luca."

"Yeah, I'm sure your father must be so proud of you that you've finally saved from perishing."

"Hmm hmmm," I murmured. He and my dad used to be friends but then, I've always been indifferent about him.

"You've always been indifferent about a lot of people," my wolf reminded him and I shoved him away to the furthest part of my mind.

"Ohh, don't let me keep you, you have a beautiful mate to get back to."

My wolf rattled at the fact that he just called our mate beautiful and I almost chuckled at how ridiculous my overreacting was.

"Yeah, thank you," I turned back and walked to the car pack, and as expected, Levi was leaning against my car door.

Of course, he used his heightened speed to teleport here.

"Leave the door, I need to enter."

To my utmost surprise, he moved away from the door and he even gestured for me to enter with that amused grin back on his face.

I stopped.

"Did you mess with my brakes because you're so cooperative and you're never cooperative?"

"Even if I wanted to kill you, I'm going to do that in a very grand and creative way but I'm not going to do that, I need to live too, you know?"

"No, I don't, what I know is that even if it means you'll cease to exist, you'll be happy as long it means I'm failing too."

His grin deepened and he moved closer to me, "I'm glad that you think so highly of my villains."

And then he was gone, he teleported with so much speed that I barely felt him move at all and it made me shake my head because even though we were years away from high school, it still looked like Levi never truly left.

I got into the car and started the ignition, heading back home to the human that'd have my head.
