Two Weeks Later
Samantha's POV
I sat in the car as the sun rays shining through the windshield continued to slap against my beautifully melanated skin. I lifted the bottle of water I had bought opening it quickly before downing some of the liquid since my body was in desperate need of hydration.
At this current moment, my body was probably filled with as much tension and frustration as my mind was filled with busy thoughts, both feelings leaving me stressed.
I had just spent hours going from building to building earning rejection after rejection, the situation I was left in lifting its gun named reality firing several shots at the remainder of my hope that had been protecting the dreams I had in store for myself.
I had been staying with my Ackeem and Tameka for the last three weeks that I've been out of prison and it was a rather draining agreement since no matter how much he assured me that I wasn't intruding I felt as if I was.
I had spent the majority of those three weeks trying to get a job but it was hard since the first thing they saw when they looked at me was a black lesbian ex-convict. Ackeem had offered me a job at this construction company he worked for, but I don't know, a huge piece of me just felt as if I had already taken too much from him and the remaining piece was my pride.
My pride that wanted me to be the one that pulled myself out of this slump and the fact I couldn't do it left me with a constant feeling of betrayal since I had made a promise to myself a long time ago that I wouldn't fall into this place, but life was unpredictable and I guess things never really went as planned.
My head titled upwards as I gazed at the crown of the tree silently saying a prayer, asking God for some strength since I had fallen weak, asking for some guidance since I was running blind, asking for some hope since I lost mine in the middle of the fight I had with the pressure life had placed on me.
I removed the keys as a small sigh left me, and I hoped the small action could remove some of the heaviness off my body as I began opening the door. I stepped out closing it behind me walking towards the garage where Ackeem told me to meet him.
I walked through the entrance to see Ackeem who was talking to a man I had never seen before and my paranoia had me going on guard.
"Sam what's up?" he greeted and I handed him the keys wordlessly greeting the other man.
"This is my nigga Taj, Taj this friend Sam" he greeted and I quickly dabbed him up.
"You better chill on that nigga shit before Ice hears your ass," Taj voiced laughing slightly pulling one from Ackeem and I stood there feeling like the odd one out of the mix.
"You done for the day?" Ackeem asked as a woman walked past us going to the exit catching my attention for a couple of seconds.
"Naw I got to supervise Ice's car while it's getting fixed,"
"Ice coming through today?" he asked surprised.
"Yeah soon too," he voiced earning a head nod from Ackeem, his reply barely connecting with my mind as my gaze moved to the right watching as the same woman from before entered the building once more.
Her gaze met mine and I quickly directed my attention back to the conversation before me.
"You ain't met Ice yet?" Taj asked directing the question towards me.
"No I haven't," I replied my curiosity getting the best of me as I began to wonder what the man looked like.
"You don't know who Ice is?" Taj asked surprised making me wonder if this man was some type of don or something.
"She was locked up for a couple of years, only been back for three weeks," Ackeem explained as I stayed quiet just observing my surroundings, hating the fact he was out here spilling my personal business to a man who was merely an acquaintance to me, but I pushed aside my feelings deciding to address him later.
"Three weeks, she should know who Ice is,"
"I'm barely in the neighbourhood I've been up and about trying to find a job," I expressed and he nodded in understanding.
"Speaking of Ice you could probably get a job or something, right Taj?" he announced directing the last part to Taj.
"Yeah," he replied his phone ringing shortly after his response and he lifted it answering the object immediately walking away from our conversation.
"How do you know him?" I asked Ackeem as the garage doors went up allowing natural light to enter.
"He and Ice got me the job at the construction company two years back, my boss Jason is a friend of Ice," he explained and I nodded my curiosity rising as Ackeem's gaze moved to the entrance and I followed it to see a woman with a little girl to her right.
"Ice is here," he voiced motioning to the car driving in.
"Is that Ice's baby mother or something?" I asked frowning finding the woman very attractive, her coils falling in her face as her dimples made their presence know, the oversized sweats b-
"No her fiancée," He corrected confusing me.
"Her?"
"Yeah Ice is a woman," he informed me and a sense of pride filled me.
"Aria go put your bag in the office," a voice announced, a woman emerging from the car in a suit, her locs in a high ponytail showing off her haircut as the little girl ran past us saying good evening as she did.
"Yow Ice," Ackeem called out and the woman smiled greeting him as she moved over to her fiancée whispering something in her ear.
I stood there in amazement the surface of their relationship being the picture I had always wished for myself.
I watched as Taj moved over saying something to her and she nodded as her gaze travelled to me.

Thanks for reading ❤️‼️
How are you enjoying the book so far??❤️‼️
Samantha's POVThe elevator doors opened and we both stepped out, my bag which held everything I owned in my hand as we began moving down the hall. After my long conversation with Ms Tammy yesterday my trust in Ice as a person had grown enough for me to finally call up Taj and let him bring me to the apartment I was told I had waiting for me."This is the key to the door and I sent the address of the building to your phone when you get to work tomorrow they'll give you what you need and explain everything, you'll start working as a driver on Wednesday since its gonna take some time for Ice to secure your license but you have to be at work Monday and Tuesday, they'll probably have you pack the trucks or drive passenger side," Taj announced handing me the key and I took it feeling overwhelmed as we got to the door.
Destiny's POVMy eyes ran over her appreciating just the way the red dress she wore made her skin glow as conversation continued to fall between us. Her light brown complexion had the intensity of her hazel eyes increasing which at the moment resembled a light shade of green. Her small mannerisms and sense of dominance had me sitting on the legs of adoration all night, it was almost impossible not to stare and even harder to concentrate on anything else but the way her lips formed the words that were mine to keep and the way her eyes travelled over me once every few minutes shamelessly as if she wanted me to know she wasn't afraid of looking."-and that's why I don't associate myself with them anymore," she finished and I released a small laugh as our eyes met once mor
Mesi's POV My gaze ran over her slowly as we continued to enjoy our meal, the sweet sound of jazz in the background setting a scene that was perfect for my moments of adoration. She had me on the edge of my seat completely intrigued. In all honesty, she was different from all the other women I had met and held conversations with, she challenged me and did a very good job at it, her view on a topic wasn't based on mine, she had her own reasons and didn't seem to fear voicing them with a sense of passion and determination. Her argumentative nature was amusing while also inspiring, I had met strongminded women but they usually came with pride and a lack of knowledge when it came to admitted wrongs, learning and apologizing but she was the complete opposite and that fac
Destiny's POV I took another sip from my glass, my tired feet screaming for much-needed rest as my social battery continued to decrease with every passing second, but sadly the ability to deal with exhaustion was a requirement for my occupation. I was left to mingle and create business relationships at least two times every month, and now my interactions had become rehearsed which meant the conversations held less and less excitement, in the end leaving me to want to leave before I even arrived. "Is he the one who wrote Dreaded?" Mr Teri asked directing the question to me and I forced a smile. "Yes that's him," I replied and he nodded as I fought back a bored yawn while also sending encouragement to my tired body.
Destiny's POV My eyes ran over her for what felt like the hundredth time tonight, the soft music and dimmed lights setting a distractingly perfect mood, one which had my mind drifting off to a place where only she stood on display. I placed my now empty glass of wine on the coffee table as my gaze fell to the red silk robe she wore and my mind couldn't help but wonder if she had anything underneath it. "Do you want a refill?" she asked, her words pulling my eyes back to hers. "No I'm fine," I replied as the thought of her touching me came to mind, making concentrating on anything else but the way her skin shined with glory difficult. "What?" she questioned and I smiled meeting her eyes once more as I tried my best
Mesi's POV Unspoken words and denied emotions. I was stuck wondering if I had spent my life trying to break a generational curse only to repeat the actions I feared, only to be faced with the inevitable, I was too closed off. I had spent so much time trying to build my financial status that I forgot to build myself emotionally and after all this time I was left wondering how to fix what I had unknowingly destroyed. I didn't fear being alone or at least I don't believe I do, but what I am sure of is my fear of dying alone with the knowledge that I never loved anything but myself and the wealth I had accumulated. It was somewhat depressing to think that at my age emotions made me uncomfortable, that my biggest
THREE WEEKS LATER Mesi's POV "You have a degree in psychology," she said repeating my earlier confession and I smiled lifting my recently poured glass of wine off the table as I shifted on her couch, my mind tuning into the sweet sound of jazz playing softly from her speakers for a split second. "I do," "Explains a lot," she continued making me snicker as I enjoyed the sight of her. "What do mean explains a lot?" "Just the way you approach life, approach me," "How do I approach you?" I asked and she looked down at the contents o
One Month Later Samantha's POV I stood there with the box of supplies in my hands patiently waiting for the elevator to arrive. A month had passed since I had started working here and over time I had grown comfortable with not only the surroundings but the people, a majority of them also having prior convictions like I did which in return made it easier for us to build relationships since we all had the ability to empathize and understand each other. It was seemingly the first time since I got out that I had felt accepted and understood. It was nice to speak with people who understood what I went through on a daily and at the same time, I was still left feeling like an outcast as well since the motto around here was 'Time is the greatest heal
