CHAPTER TEN
My Lycan hasn’t been at rest since I met Nala. The temptation to mark her is high, but she is still so young. I am scared I am going to hurt her. She is extremely fragile and cries almost every day.
“Oh, Don” I hear her moan beside me. What the fuck is she dreaming about? I smile at how beautiful she looks. She might have the character of a child, but her body says otherwise. I don’t care about what she is thinking as long as it involves me. I am waiting for the perfect time to talk to her about us and any other necessary information.
I enter the bathroom and shower with the cold water, hoping it helps with the sudden bulge in my pants. Fresh out of the shower, I dress in a fine suit, go down the stairs to get things done before she wakes up.
I receive a call from Carson.
“Don, I just got some information”
“What is it, Carson?” I ask impatiently.
“You will want to hear this in person,” Carson states
CHAPTER ELEVEN Don’s POV I wake up before Nala as usual, get dressed, and prepare to take her to school after breakfast. I take my place at the dining table and ask the maids to make pancakes, Nala’s favorite, according to the information her friends had given me. The maids start baking, and I wait patiently for Nala to come downstairs. “Morning” she sings cheerfully, expressing the happiness she always has with her friends. Why can’t she be this free and happy with me? “Morning,” I reply, realizing that she has only taken notice of the maids and not me. Her mood changes to that of terror when she sights me. “Morning,” she says to me, every trace of happiness gone from her face. She takes her place at the table. “Breakfast?” Claire asks her, and she nods. “Yes, thank you” When Claire serves her the pancakes, joy returns to her expression. She quickly takes three successive bites. “You’ll choke if you ar
CHAPTER TWELVE I once again, wake up before Nala. I quickly bathe and put on a black shirt. I realize I want to give Nala some space today. After what happened yesterday, I am sure she does not want to see me. When I get downstairs, I receive a call from Carson. “Morning” I mutter into the phone. “Morning” Carson replies. “Is something wrong?” I ask, sensing the apprehension in his voice. “Yes and no” “What do you mean by that? Get straight to the point.” I say, already starting to lose my patience. “Chill, man. I think I know who the traitor is” “Who is the motherfucker?” I ask, my temper rising. Carson pauses for a moment, and says, “Kim”. “Kim” I can’t believe what I am hearing. “Yes, Kim” he reiterates. “I am coming right now” I state quickly. “Won’t you take Nala to school?” Carson asks. “Okay,” Carson replies, and I hang up. I have given the necessar
CHAPTER THIRTEEN Immediately we get home, we go to the room. Don is surprisingly nice. To be sincere, I expect him to yell at me, but he doesn't. He throws his black shirt at me, and I pick it up in confusion. "Put it on," he says. I am confused, but at the same time, I am happy. I have always wanted to wear his shirt again because of how good it felt the first time. "OK," I say, walking into the closet and changing into his shirt. I can't point out a particular expression from him because I have seen a lot today. We are both served dinner in our room. It is like he knows I am tired. We eat dinner silently, and for the first time, I eat with him without fear. He suddenly grabs my hand. "I'm sorry, Nala. I'm just scared of losing you too," he says, and I give him a weak smile. I don't know what 'too' means, but I
CHAPTER FOURTEEN Edited When I get downstairs, my bag slung over my shoulder, ready to leave him for good, I remember he told me he is scared of me leaving him. Somehow, I doubt that. He does everything that makes me want to leave him. Out of the corner of my eye, I see him sit down with his head buried in his palm. As I am about to open the door, he shoots up and runs towards me. He grabs my arm. "Please don't leave me! I'm so sorry." "No, Don, you need time alone to think on how to treat me. Well, that's if you get the second chance," I say. "I've been alone long enough. Please, I need you. I promise to treat you well," he begs. I can find some truth in what he was saying, but I am not ready to be his puppet again. "No, Don, we need time apart.” "OK, how about you stay here, and I stay in the guest room?" &
CHAPTER FIFTEEN When I receive a call from Carson that morning, I know I can’t take Nala to school. "Ben, tell her she can go wherever she wants to after school,” I say, “but she has to call me, so I know where she is." "Sure, bye," he replies, and I leave the house. Yesterday's kiss still replays in my head. It was so lovely, a big step in our faulty relationship. I quickly head over to Carson’s. "Can you believe Kim made Nala think we were more than friends? She is unbelievable," I rant, and Carson smiles. "Nala gave you a second chance, though. Don’t blow it.” "Why did you get to be the reasonable one?” "I know, man, I am far more reasonable than you will ever be." "Okay, enough of that. What do we do about the attack? I think it's better if we
CHAPTER SIXTEEN When I woke up this morning, I notice Don is still in the room. I wonder why he is still at home. "Morning, "he says, and I frown at him. "Why are you still at home?" I question. "I wanted to tell you myself," he explains. Now, I am confused. "What?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "I have to travel today." Why is he just telling me this now? I am going to be alone now. "Why? What's wrong?"I ask, already panicking. "Calm down, Nala, there is a fight between our packs, that's all." What if he dies? If he doesn't come back, I will be alone forever. "Nala, Nala," Don says, tapping me. "Sorry..... Do you have to be there?" I asked, hoping he will back out. "Yes, Nala, I
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN Jordan is to pick me up from home. I really don't want him to come here, but what harm can happen if he does? It isn’t like he is going to stay for long. I wear a blue flared gown that is just a little below my mid-thigh. I pick my white sneakers and put them on. I pack my hair into a messy bun. It is loose, so locks of hair drop down my face. I pick my favorite hair clip, it is silver in color. I put it on my hair, then I hear the doorbell ring. I know it is Jordan. It has to be him. I go downstairs and find Claire standing beside a dimpled-faced Jordan. He looks really cute in his black tight jeans with his black sneakers and denim jacket. "Hey," I say with a smile, and he returns it with a grin of his own. "Hey," he replies, his smile turning awkward. If I don't say anything, we will
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN I wake up and I am the only one in the car. I look around and see that he has brought us to the place where we first met. I know how dear this place is to him; It reminds him of his mother. "Oh shut up, he doesn't deserve our pity," Penny says, and I smile. "Cut it out, Penny, he's trying his best to make it up to us." "Hmph...whatever," Penny says, and I shake my head. I search for Jordan, finally spotting him leaning on the tree near the lake. He turns and waves, and I return the gesture. "Hey," I say with a smile. "Hey," he responds. I stand beside him, and we both stare at the lake. "I'm sorry," we both say at the same time, facing each other. "What exactly are you sorry for? You didn't do anything wrong," he says. &nbs
