Freda glared at me. But I understood where she was coming from. This company was everything she worked for. It was her life—everything that she owned—and someone threatening to acquire it would definitely make her furious. I understood that.

But I did not understand why she was taking the threat seriously. Lana just acquired Lukem, and I doubted she had the money to buy out our company, and even if she did, were we selling? Our company’s stocks were stable in the market, and we were still scaling up.
