WHEN THINGS WORK IN YOUR FAVOUR

Sapphire got out of her room and sighed, she looked down the empty hallway, this is probably the only place in the house that was not buzzing, every single cleaner in the house was busy.

She walked towards the dead end and stared at the sparkling pool. It was so luxurious, it looked the most beautiful at night but she couldn't bring herself to like the place. It was a reminder of the tragedies that happened to her.

They both used to come to this magical place and have fun, it holds so many memories of them that it pains her to look at it. She wondered if she was so stupid enough not to notice any changes, at least she was supposed to know somehow, that is one of the things that still baffles her.

She heard footsteps but didn't bother to turn, she knows who it is without having to turn, only one person makes so much noise when walking, she used to think it is one of the traits that makes her but she couldn't help but find it annoying as she heard it at the moment.

"Sapphire," she called but she didn't bother looking at her, she's probably here to have fun as she used to say.

She stared down at Sapphire and rolled her eyes when she didn't cower and moved at all under her gaze.

Right, The Sapphire she knew would get uncomfortable when she was stared down at like that.

"You should at least return the greetings, I'm still your sister even if you ran away, two or was it three years ago,"

"Are you? Last time I checked, I don't have a sister," Sapphire replied coldly.

"Don't tell me that you are still bitter about that incident, I think you would probably be passed that by now,"

"It did but that doesn't mean I will pretend that it didn't take place. Simply pretending it didn't happen does not mean it didn't, of course you wouldn't know that would you, you are still the dumb Melissa I was so blind to see,"

Melissa scoffed and glared at her, wondering when she got guts, she used to be a scared cat.

"I thought mother told me that you are already mature, I could see clearly that you are still infantile and gullible, maybe getting married to this old man is actually the best for you, you get to open your strumpet legs for him and at the same time you get a taste of maturity," Sapphire just continued staring at the house help and what not, hurrying toward and away from the building.

Melissa was angry that she didn't get any reaction from her, not even a glance at her, it was as if she wasn't there at all.

"Melissa, aren't you going to get dressed it is almost time for them to come,"

"What?" Melissa mocked "trying to be the good elder sister?"

"No, I could actually care less but being the attention whore you are, you have to be dressed to perfection in order to get the Aldines attention _"

"You --,"

"Getting the advantage of choosing your own partner, making sure that he's from the Aldines, getting me forced into marriage, making the family wish that you were the one chosen hence giving you the approval when one of them bring you as a partner and getting to torture me in my marriage, wasn't that your plan when you put the idea of dragging me down here into forced marriage into the family's mind?"

"How did you----," Melissa asked dumbstruck.

"You better get dressed if you want to turn your fantasy into reality," She deadpanned and stared into Melissa eyes, the younger lady getting to see how perfervid those eyes have become.

Sapphire turned and walked away, taking the stairs leading to the lower floor of the building while Melissa bored a hole into her back.

»»»»»»»

The family have gathered in the dining room, since it was a dinner to congratulate the marriage between the families and since the Conrads are the one seeking help, they're at the Aldine main mansion that put the Conrads home to shame.

This family is the richest in the whole country and one of the top ten in the whole world, the house was simply fascinating, ethereal even.

Everything was like it came out of a magical world. It was sybaritic.

Sapphire just sat down on the luxurious chairs and stared at the epicurean lunch that was in front of her, everything screamed how voluptuary the family is.

She sighed, they were witnessing this at her expense, she was present and staring as the family sealed her sale papers.

She raised a glass and drank the expensive wine, only the cashier can know the millions she just swallowed because she doubts the family would check the price tag.

She had a bored expression on her face, she stared at the beautiful garden that was situated at the entrance of the building. Just a little bit from the garden was Melissa.

She was standing in front of a man who was about to enter the house. Sapphire could not see the man's face because of the distance between them and his back. He was probably in his thirties.

He was dressed in a black suit and pants, no doubt of expensive materials and had black hair, his posture screamed rich and she was sure that Melissa finally found the man she wanted after going from one guy of the family to another, she spent quite the minutes standing in front of the guy.

She turned her attention to the table and the few people were talking, both families were rich and filled with stuck up bitches and jerk faced assholes.

So everyone thought they were too important to chatter and Sapphire was too tired to care, it takes an awful lot of energy.

Melissa finally left the guy and entered the room with a mischievous look in her eyes, Sapphire rolled her eyes.

The quiet chatter stopped when the sound of footsteps could! be heard, only then did Sapphire heard another sound, she wasn't sure what it was until the man came into view, and she exhaled.

Not only was he old but also using a walking stick, this is what they expected her to be, a house-in housewife taking care of a grumpy old man, could they take it any further?

The man walked to the head of the table and sat, he was obviously the head of the family, Melissa stared at the man and Sapphire and snickered quietly.

"Thank you all, for honoring this dinner with your presence, the family have been friends for years and I hope it remain like that," He said and Melissa smiled while Sapphire scoffed, of course she would gladly it to be like that if she'll get to be with the guy who she was the guy she was talking to earlier at the entrance.

The guy came inside and sat at the chair next to the old man. Sapphire couldn't be more shocked, it was that guy from the airport.

She felt those gray eyes stare at her and she stayed frozen. The guy wasn't surprised that she was there, it was like he knew her.

He is obviously a very important figure in the Aldine family judging by the place he sat. Just another brownie point in Melissa's book since Melissa likes him.

Sapphire doesn't know why she felt her heart sinking at that thought, she was crazy to fantasize about him but feeling disappointed because he can't be hers? What the hell is she doing?

"We have sent rescue to Ruby, he will arrive tonight," he said and every old member nodded.

"And I would like to raise a glass in honor of the marriage taking place,"he raised his glass, "between Sapphire," he raised the glass in her direction beaming. Stupid Old man.

"And my grandson, Alexander," he said, putting his hand on the shoulder of the man beside him before raising the glass.

Sapphire stared in shock for a few minutes, she didn't know that she wasn't getting married to this old man but Alexander who happened to be his grandson who topped the list of Melissa's dream man.

She couldn't point to the reason why she felt happy but she was, maybe because for once, Melissa can't get what she wants.

She stared at Melissa's utterly shocked expression and couldn't help being amused.

"Cheers," The old man s

aid, oblivious of or ignoring the tension in the room.

And it was Sapphire's turn to snicker.
