Chapter 6: Words and actions.

"Grace..." Grey pushed through yellow tapes and law enforcement officers around the 64th avenue in Langley, California. The streets taken by patrol cars and ambulances, the wailing of sirens from more ambulances pulling up told of how massive the road accident was.

Grey walked pass a taxi missing it's front half on the way to a stretcher. Body bags rolled out on numerous gunneries into waiting ambulances.

A male paramedic officer helped a sitting patient with an oxygen mask. Her blonde hair wet over vacant eyes and a flawless skin interrupted only by a bruise on her forehead as she sat in a power pants suit. She looked to Grey calling her name, her attitude carried exhaustion coated with gratitude. She was lucky to be alive, the cab driver, not so much.

"Grace are you alright?" He got to her side. Giving her a once over to concluded that she was fine.

"Am alright!" She said eyes out in the streets where the front half of the taxi sat, crushed between two cars.

"Are we good to go here!?" Grey asked the paramedic. After a quick round of the final examination Grace was discharged.

"Let's get you home!" He secured the comfort towel slipping from her shoulders around her.

"Wait, they didn't get it. They didn't get what they came for!" She looked to the part of the taxi Grey passed earlier.

No one had their focus on that car or what was left of it, they were all trying to save a man trapped in the drivers seat at the other end which gave Grey quick access to the wrapped up parcel. He secured it under his arm and guided Grace to his waiting Mercedes.

In the car, he tore open a corner of the wrap revealing a shining blade. He could feel power radiating from it.. History had it that a spell had been cast on it long ago by the Oracle of Moreau, a lost tribe or by the goddess of poison herself...

"They threw cars at us!" Grace said, dazed. She witnessed a battle her mind couldn't come to terms with done by forces she couldn't comprehend. The image of the driver's bones twisting like a pretzel before the accident ran through her mind.

"You need to stop thinking about it.. it's okay you are safe now!" He rubbed her shoulder putting the car into motion.

The ride back to the Mansion thirty minutes away was silent. When they got there Grace said nothing tracking her way towards her room with a hot shower in mind. He wanted to go after her but he thought it best to let her ease into the discovery.

Grey finally had the sword in his hands, he ripped the paper wrap off completely revealing smooth, thin, Blackstone blade with a clean cut single edge sharp enough to tear through air. The opposite side of the blade blunt but jagged sure to pull out flesh with a stab. It was horrid and elegant, a faint glow as It reacted to his touch when he wrapped his hands around the handle.

"Nice sword, you cosplay?" Ten asked walking into the sitting area. Clad in a black armless hoodie revealing slender muscular arms over black leggings and comfy looking sneakers.

"The blade has the power to any end life, including the life of a god!" He said in a serious tone. staring down a flawless edge.

"Wow, you are good!" She caught herself admiring a twitch in his well muscled arms as he held the sword in both hands.

"Matilda said you left in a hurry so I decided to wait after she left to say goodbye!" She thought the opposite.. Grown attached to him, she wished she had time to explore her newfound emotions but she had to leave. She had to go back to her brother, back to a pack at least.

"You sure you want to leave?" He laid the sword gently on the table afraid it was going to shatter even though he knew it was indestructible.

"I have to go... My brother!" Her words, toned to convince herself more than Grey.

"Are you going to be safe? After ShadowLake the Alpha council will do whatever it takes to find you!" He seemed worried drawing in closer. A longing in his eyes matching one in hers.

"Correction, the Alpha council will do whatever it takes to find us! Come with me, we'll be safe in my mum's former pack!" She offered as he drew closer, a few feet left.

"The council has jurisdiction over all pack territories, they will find you anywhere!" He moved closer, they were only inches apart.

"They'll be risking a war with Equinox then!" He got to her and held her hands. She looked down hiding the red flow to her cheeks as tingling vibrations flew from their touching skin.

"Promise me you'll be alright!" He said looking deep into her eyes as her head came up. They was no denying their connection now. They weren't mates, but they had something blossoming between them.

"I can't make any promises!" She said, tied to his black orbs. He inched lower, close enough to feel her breath and she didn't pull away. Lower, their lips were almost touching.

A flash of a burning wolf flashed before Grey's eyes making him pull away with a jerk.

"Am sorry!" He tried to force the image out of his head. His hands above his eyes in a swirl of embarrassment and a fresh dose of grief.

"It's okay! You can make it up to me when next we meet!" She gave him a peck and walked towards the door.

"Hey Ten!" He called to her as she walked through the door.

"Yeah!?" She stopped in her tracks and turned around. She wanted it to stay as it was. A deep friendship, the other part can wait..

"There's a motorcycle in the garage!" She sighed in relief.

"Thanks!" She walked out in the direction of the garage.

"As far as goodbyes go, that was the worst I have seen and trust me I have seen many!" He heard Grace up the stairs. She balanced her back on the railing leaving loose strands of her blonde locks over her face.

"Grace, you should be in bed, resting!" He said. The house carrying his voice perfectly.

"Am sorry Alpha but Grace isn't home right now!" She pulled her hair back showing a red glow over her irises. In a jolt Grey grabbed the sword holding it in from of him.

"Oh please put that away, I come in peace!" She walked down the stairs coming face to face with the tip of the sword.

"Or not! Mind you, a strike will be ending your human attachment. It will be a shame to waste such a youthful vessel on a failed shot!" The sword came lower but still at the ready. The demon sat on the last staircase and crossed her legs.

"What do you want!?" Grey asked. To him a demon's word was as worthless as a drop of water in a sea. He thought of ways to end him without Grace getting caught in the cross fire but came up empty. He was left with no other option but to bargain.

"Of course you aren't smart enough to figure it out as I learnt from that putrid place you call a pack. But I am big on second chances so I'll let you guess!" Grace gave a dark smile bringing a fort the dark personality from the demon in the pilot seat of her body.

"What do you want!?" Grey maintained an emotionless expression.

"Fine then, I'll tell you! I want to join your little crusade against Erebus as an emisary!"

"What!?" He asked confused.

Demons were forever loyal to master of darkness, they follow him doing his every command.

"You are right to be surprised. See some of my siblings are tired of my father's eternal hold over us and want freedom.. "

"Wait, father!?" He asked gripping the sword tighter. The demon not liking the interruption one bit but didn't take it to heart. He stood from the stair case.

"I am sorry we haven't properly met. I am Thanatos son of Erebus!" He gave a mock bow rising with an expression that opposed Grey's. One of total amusement.

Grey took a small step back feeling belittled as the realization of who or better still, what was standing in front of him dawned.

He was standing before the personification of the end, the fullstops to life's whole existence of vanity.. he was in the presence of death.

"All the more reason not to trust a word that comes out of your mouth!" He raised the sword, it's tip out and handle on the level of his eyes. Like a samurai ready for battle.

"Since words cannot be trusted actions will come into play!” A hand went under her jacket and tugged out a dagger. Seeing the knife he crouched lower ready for an attack.

The demon placed the dagger on the last stair case and walked backwards away from it.

"I will let you judge my intention from my actions not my words. I offer you the blade of Akhlys and I am going to take your friend to safety before my father's array of pets come for you. Till we meet again, Alpha!" In a snap she was gone, disappeared into thin air.

The double doors came ajar, seven men with glossy black holes for eyes walked in. Grey recognized one of them as Hermes.

He took to his posture, years of swordsmanship experience taking root in his mind and body. His eyes narrowed, a plan of attack ready.

"Hermes! Here to finish the job?" Grey asked. He knew he could take them getting considerable amount of damage in the process but he will heal. He can take them.

"Alpha, give us the sword and we'll leave you alone!" Hermes said retreating as his men walked forward spreading out.

"Well, you'll have to take it from me!"...
