Selena struggled desperately, pulling and twisting her arm, but the man’s grip was firm, like iron shackles clamping her down. Her heart pounded wildly, and her throat burned from screaming, yet the men surrounding her seemed like they were having fun with everything. They exchanged smirks, their eyes gleaming with twisted amusement.

“Don’t do this!” she cried, her voice cracking under the weight of her desperation. “Please, don’t!”

Her father, standing just a few feet away, looked down at the ground, his face pale with shame. He fidgeted, his hands trembling, but he refused to meet her gaze. His betrayal cut deeper than anything else.

“Dad, help me! Please!” Selena’s tear-streaked face turned to him, searching for a glimmer of the man who had once protected her.

Instead, her father mumbled, “Selena, this… this is the only way. You have to understand. Do this for me. For us.” His voice was hollow, devoid of the love she had once trusted.

Selena’s breath hitched, and her vision blurred with tears. “How can you say that? I’m your daughter! You’re supposed to protect me!”

But her pleas fell on deaf ears. One of the men stepped forward, a brute with a jagged scar running from his temple to his jawline. Without a word, he grabbed Selena and slung her over his shoulder like a sack of grain.

“No! Let me go!” she screamed, pounding her fists against his broad back. Her cries echoed in the quiet neighborhood, but no one came to her aid. Doors remained closed, curtains drawn tight. This was a place where silence was safe, where people turned a blind eye to the horrors around them.

The man’s grip tightened, his laughter rumbling like thunder. “Feisty one, huh? You’ll fetch a good price.”

Selena froze, his words chilling her to the core. Price? Her mind raced, connecting dots she didn’t want to. This wasn’t just about her father’s debts—this was something far worse.

As they approached a sleek black SUV parked on the curb, her panic surged. She writhed and kicked, her bare feet striking the man’s legs, but it was useless. The brute shoved her into the car, where two other men were waiting.

“Hold her down,” one of them barked as she scrambled to get out.

Strong hands clamped down on her wrists and shoulders, forcing her into the seat. Selena thrashed, her nails clawing and scratching at anything she could reach, but it only earned her mocking laughter.

“Calm down, sweetheart,” one of the men sneered, his whiskey-soaked breath making her gag. “You’re just making it harder on yourself.”

“Get off me!” Selena shouted, twisting her body to no avail.

Her phone buzzed in her back pocket, a faint glimmer of hope. She tried to reach for it, but one of the men noticed.

“Oh, what do we have here?” he said, pulling it out. The screen lit up with an incoming call from her best friend.

“Give it back!” Selena screamed, lunging toward him.

He smirked and rolled down the window. “Oops.” With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the phone onto the asphalt. The screen shattered, her last connection to the outside world gone.

Selena’s heart sank. Tears streamed down her face, but her despair quickly turned to fury. When one of the men leaned in too close, she bit down on his hand, hard enough to draw blood.

“Ah, you little—” He slapped her, the force of it snapping her head to the side. Stars danced in her vision, and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.

Her body went limp, the pain and exhaustion overtaking her. As the car sped through the streets, Selena’s hope flickered like a dying ember.

When she awoke, the SUV was moving steadily through unfamiliar terrain. The chatter of the men up front filtered through the haze of her consciousness.

“She’s tougher than I thought,” one of them said with a chuckle.

“Doesn’t matter. Boss likes them with a bit of fire,” another replied.

Selena’s heart sank as she pieced together their words. They were taking her to someone—a “boss.” Her body ached, but her mind raced, searching for a way out.

The car began to slow, pulling off the main road onto a dirt path. Selena feigned unconsciousness, her breaths shallow as she listened.

“We’ll stop here for a bit,” the driver said. “Need to take a stretch.”

“I was about to tell you to stop, I need to take a piss,” one of the men in the back grunted.

"Me too." One of them kicked her to see if she was still awake but she remained still.  She couldn't believe her luck that all of them were coming down from the car at once.

Selena waited until she heard the car doors open and the sound of footsteps crunching on gravel. She cracked one eye open, confirming that two of the men had stepped out. The third was still in the driver’s seat, scrolling through his phone.

This was her chance. Summoning every ounce of courage, Selena slid toward the door. Her hands fumbled with the lock, but she managed to push it open quietly.

The moment her feet hit the ground, she ran.

Her bare feet slapped against the gravel, sharp stones cutting into her soles, but she didn’t stop. Adrenaline drowned out the pain as she sprinted down the empty road.

“Hey! She’s running!” one of the men shouted, his voice filled with fury.

Selena didn’t look back. She waved her arms frantically as headlights appeared in the distance. “Help! Please, stop!”

The car slowed, an expensive black sedan with tinted windows. The driver hesitated for a moment before rolling down the passenger window.

“Get in!” the man inside said.

Without thinking, Selena yanked the door open and threw herself inside. “Go! Please, just go!”

The driver didn’t ask questions. He slammed on the gas, and the car sped away, leaving the men shouting curses in the dust.

Selena collapsed into the seat, her chest heaving as relief washed over her. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The man beside her didn’t respond immediately. He kept his eyes on the road, his jaw tight. Finally, he said, “You’re safe now.”

Selena’s body sagged against the seat, exhaustion overtaking her. As the adrenaline faded, she slipped into a restless sleep.

When she woke, the car was parked outside a neon-lit building. The thumping bass of music vibrated through the air.

“Where are we?” she asked, her voice groggy.

The man opened his door. “Come inside. You’ll be safe here.”

Selena hesitated, but she had no other options. She followed him into the club, but she had a feeling that something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

Inside, the noise was deafening. The man led her through the crowd with ease, his presence commanding respect—or fear.

When they reached a private booth, Selena froze. Her captors were sitting there, their faces a mix of anger and confusion.

“No,” she whispered, backing away. Her eyes darted to the man who had saved her, now removing his sunglasses.

Her breath caught in her throat as recognition dawned.

“Adrian?” she stammered, her voice trembling.

He smirked, his eyes cold. “Hello, Selena. Did you really think you could run from me?”

Selena’s heart sank as the realization hit her like a tidal wave. She had escaped one nightmare, only to fall into another.

Selena's knees nearly gave way, her pulse hammering in her ears. The crowd around her blurred, the pounding music a distant echo. Adrian stepped closer, his smirk widening as he watched her falter.

"You're not looking so brave now," he said, his voice smooth, like silk wrapped around a blade.

Selena clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. "Why are you doing this?" she demanded, her voice trembling but still defiant.

Adrian tilted his head, feigning curiosity. "You think this is about what you owe me?" He chuckled, the sound sending a chill down her spine. "It's never been about the money, Selena. It's about you. And I don’t share what’s mine."

Selena froze, her breath catching as Adrian’s familiar smirk sent a pang through her chest. It had been months since she’d last seen him, but the memories flooded back with brutal clarity—the warmth of his embrace, the way he used to look at her as if she was his entire world. And now, his gaze was ice-cold, filled with something far darker.

Her heart twisted painfully. She had ended things with him for his sake, believing it was the only way to protect him, to shield him from the storm that surrounded her life. But she hadn’t told him why. How could she? It would have destroyed him, just as it had nearly destroyed her.

“Adrian…” she whispered, her voice trembling.

"Selena, Selena, Selena. Long time isn't it?"

She realized nothing she was going to say was going to redeem herself so she decided to be cold instead.

"You can’t keep me here," she hissed, her voice louder now. She tried to summon the courage she had felt during her escape. "Someone will come looking for me."

Adrian laughed again, the sound colder this time. "Who, Selena? Your father? The same man who handed you over to me? Face it, no one’s coming to save you."

Chapter FourSelena struggled against the grip of the man who led her up the grand staircase of Adrian’s mansion. His hold was firm, but not harsh, as though he had been given strict orders not to hurt her. That realization didn’t comfort her. It only made her more aware of how much control Adrian had over her situation. The mansion was a mix of old-world elegance and modern luxury. Chandeliers sparkled above her head, casting golden light on polished marble floors and ornate walls. But Selena barely noticed the beauty around her. To her, it felt like a prison, no matter how gilded. “Let me go,” she snapped, her voice sharper than the heels of her boots clacking against the floor. The man didn’t stop walking, nor did he look at her. “You’ll only make things worse for yourself if you resist,” he said flatly. Selena bristled. “Worse? Being locked up in his house isn’t bad enough?” The man glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, his expression unreadable. “You think Adrian

Selena woke up to sunlight streaming through the iron-barred window of her room. She had barely slept. Her mind had been restless, filled with thoughts of escape, frustration, and Adrian’s unnerving presence. Her hands clenched into fists as she sat up in the oversized bed, its soft sheets offering little comfort. Today, she decided, she would learn more about this mansion. If she was going to escape, she needed to know its layout and weaknesses. Adrian couldn’t keep her caged forever, no matter how smug he seemed. After a quick breakfast delivered by a silent guard, Selena began to explore under the guise of compliance. She acted like she had accepted her situation, letting her movements appear curious instead of desperate. The guard stationed outside her door didn’t follow her too closely, giving her a small measure of freedom. She wandered the wide hallways, taking in the opulent decor: tall mirrors, rich tapestries, and intricate carvings on the wooden panels. But Selena was

The morning light cast long shadows across Selena's room as she stood at the window, her fingers tracing the iron bars that kept her caged. Last night's dinner with Adrian had left her unsettled, his words about protecting her from a “danger” swirling in her mind like autumn leaves in a storm. She couldn't shake the way his eyes had followed her every movement, as if searching for something he'd lost long ago. Above all, she couldn't forget his warning about Dmitri, the unnamed threat that seemed to lurk just beyond these gilded walls.A sharp crack echoed from somewhere in the grounds, making her flinch. Her heart raced until she realized it was just the guards doing their routine patrols. Their presence had increased lately, their movements more alert, more purposeful. Something was brewing beneath the surface of Adrian's carefully controlled world, and Selena could feel it in the air like the static before a storm.A knock at her door startled her from her thoughts. Selena moved quickly, her bare feet making no sound against the cold tiles of the corridor. Every creak of the old mansion felt amplified in the silence of the night. She clutched a small bag to her chest, its contents hastily gathered over the past few days: a water bottle, some bread wrapped in cloth, and a map she’d managed to find in one of the old storage rooms. It wasn’t much, but it was all she had. Adrian’s men were stationed everywhere, their stern faces and sharp eyes making her feel like a mouse trapped in a maze full of predators. She had to time her movements carefully, slipping between shadows when their backs were turned. But no matter how cautious she was, the feeling of being watched never left her.Earlier that evening, she had overheard two guards whispering about Dmitri. The tension in their voices had confirmed what Adrian refused to tell her: Dmitri was more than just a threat. He was dangerous, and he was close. Selena wasn’t sure what Dmitri wanted from her, b

Selena sat by the window, staring out at the gray morning sky. Rain dripped steadily from the edges of the roof, creating small puddles on the cobblestone paths below. She wrapped her arms around her knees, feeling more trapped than ever. Viktor’s warning last night had shaken her, but it hadn’t made things any clearer. If anything, she felt even more confused. Dmitri was dangerous—that much she believed. But Adrian wasn’t safe either. His mood shifted so quickly, like a storm rolling in without warning. One moment, he seemed almost kind, the next, he was cold and controlling. How could she trust someone like that? Her mother’s sudden appearance had only added to the confusion. When she had appeared in Selena’s room the night before, Selena had been too stunned to speak at first. Her mother had been in hiding, waiting for the right moment to talk to her. “Adrian is dangerous,” her mother had said in a low voice, her eyes darting toward the door. “But Dmitri is worse. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the Russo estate. Selena wandered through the gardens, her mind heavy with unanswered questions. Every step she took felt like a march deeper into a labyrinth of deceit and danger. Adrian had been distant all morning, but Selena knew better than to assume he wasn’t watching. He always was. His presence lingered like a ghost, impossible to ignore. "Selena." His voice came from behind her, deep and steady. She turned, her pulse quickening. Adrian stood a few feet away, his dark suit immaculate, his expression unreadable. "Walk with me." She hesitated, then nodded. They strolled silently for a while, the gravel crunching beneath their feet. Selena finally broke the silence. "What is this about, Adrian?" He stopped abruptly and turned to her, his gaze piercing. I want to go home. Now.” His jaw tightened, but after a long pause, he sighed. “Fine.” Without another word, he opened the car door for her. She slid in, arms still folded, heart still racing from the earlier encounter. Adrian got in, started the engine, and drove in silence. Selena glanced at him. Adrian sat in his office, his fingers loosely holding a pen while his eyes remained locked on the file in front of him. He hadn’t flipped a page in the last five minutes. The words blurred together, meaningless, as his thoughts spiraled elsewhere. Selena. She wasn’t just angry—anger, he could handle. She wasn’t avoiding him, either. Avoidance meant she still acknowledged him, even if only in irritation. No, Selena had gone beyond that. She treated him like he didn’t exist. No glares, no insults, no hatred. Just… nothing. And somehow, that was worse than any argument she could throw at him. His jaw clenched as he drummed his fingers against the desk, his patience thinning with every second that passed without her looking at him, speaking to him, or acknowledging that he was still there. Matteo stood nearby, watching with an amused expression. He had been observing Adrian brood in silence for far too long. He smirked. He knew why. Adrian had messed up. Bringing Isabelle into the

Selena sat on the terrace long after Nathan left, staring at the untouched glass of orange juice. The morning breeze felt cool against her skin, but her mind was burning with thoughts she didn’t want to have. Mafias don’t divorce. That one sentence had unraveled everything she thought she knew about her situation. She had signed a contract, believing that once it was over, she would be free. But now? Now she was trapped. Footsteps echoed behind her. She turned to see Maria standing at the doorway, hesitant. “Mrs,” Maria said softly. “Breakfast is ready. Should I bring it here?” Selena shook her head, forcing a smile. “No, I’ll eat inside.” Maria nodded and disappeared back into the house. Selena leaned back in her chair, her fingers tapping against the glass as she let the weight of Nathan’s words settle. No divorces. No easy way out. The only way to be free was through death—hers or Adrian’s. She let out a slow breath before speaking. “Then I need to learn the rules.”

The morning sunlight filtered through the kitchen windows as Selena hummed softly, rolling up the sleeves of her oversized sweater. She had woken up feeling restless and decided to do something useful—like making breakfast. She wasn’t exactly a great cook, but how hard could it be? As she stepped into the kitchen, she found a maid standing by the stove, stirring a pot. The woman turned, startled. “M-Mistress?” The maid blinked rapidly, clearly not expecting to see her there. Selena offered a small smile. “You can call me Selena.” The maid hesitated, shifting awkwardly. “I’m Maria.” “Nice to meet you, Maria,” Selena said cheerfully, walking toward the counter. “I thought I’d make breakfast today.” Maria’s eyes widened. “You… you want to cook?” “Yes.” Selena nodded, grabbing an apron and tying it around her waist. “I mean, how hard can it be?” Maria opened her mouth, then closed it, looking conflicted. “Mist—I mean, Selena… you don’t have to do that. That’s our job.”

The chandeliers above cast long shadows across the walls, making the grand estate feel emptier than ever. Her heart still raced from her argument with Adrian, but she forced herself to push those emotions aside. She needed to talk to him. She needed answers. Her pace quickened as she neared his study. The heavy wooden doors were slightly ajar, and just as she reached for the handle, she heard voices from inside. A woman’s voice. Soft. Sultry. Familiar. Selena hesitated, her fingers hovering above the door. Then she heard a low chuckle—Adrian’s chuckle. A strange, sinking feeling settled in her chest as she leaned closer. “Adrian,” Isabelle’s voice purred, “you always make things so… interesting.” Selena’s grip tightened on the doorframe. “Do I?” Adrian’s voice sounded like he was intrigued, but there was no warmth in his tone. The night air was crisp, but Selena’s skin burned. Not from the cold, not from fear—but from something deeper, something more dangerous.
