Chapter 7 Laura Being Hit

"Mom, I don't have so much money at the moment."

Laura had only graduated for a year. For the first six months, Shona would order her to hand over half of her wage every time she was paid. For the next six months, her grandmother had fallen ill, so Laura spent most of her money on her grandmother.

She really didn't have any savings left over.

"You don't have money? Who are you trying to fool?" said Shona as she walked over in an attempt to pinch Laura's ear. However, Laura was able to avoid Shona's hand. "How dare you avoid my hand, you bitch? I've asked around. The business of this convenience store is very good. I don't believe that you won't be able to spare 20 thousand dollars! Let me tell you this, my son needs this money to get married. If you dare delay his wedding, then I'll skin you alive!"

Shona's words made Laura's heart ache.

Ever since Laura was little, she had never received any love from her mother. She was even forced to marry someone she didn't know for her brother's bride price. However, Shona was her mother after all. Shona did raise her.

Laura still had to show filial piety towards Shona, but that didn't mean she would agree to an endless number of unreasonable requests.

"Mom, I might be the store manager, but this store doesn't belong to me. I'm also an employee."

Laura's wage consisted of a basic wage plus commission. She still had to pay for the bread and milk she ate every morning.

However, Shona didn't believe Laura's words. To Shona, Laura was selfish and unfilial. She felt that Laura just didn't want to give her any money.

"Alright then. Since you don't have any money..." Shona looked around her, reached out and threw everything on the ground. "Since you don't have any money, fine!"

"Stop it!" Laura shouted angrily.

Shannon entered the store joyfully, but when she saw the state of the store, her face changed. She then threw her bag at the person who caused all of this. "Stop it! Where did this crazy old woman come from? How dare she throw things of the store on the ground?"

Shannon reached out to push Shona. She didn't use much force, but Shona still fell to the ground.

"Look, everyone! My daughter joined with others to bully me! Everybody take a look!" Shona screamed on the ground.

Some passersby were planning on coming to the store to buy some things, but when they saw such a scene, they hesitated before turning around and leaving.

What Shona was doing was seriously affecting the store's business.

Shannon was dumbfounded after hearing Shona's words. She looked at Shona, then at Laura. "Miss Walker, she's your mother?"

'The two of them look nothing alike,' she thought.

Laura nodded.

"I do apologize, Mrs. Walker. I... I..." Shannon walked over and wanted to help Shona up, but Shona slapped her hand away. This caused her hand to immediately turn red.

"Shannon, leave her!" Laura snorted. "Tidy the things up. Count the number of goods that were damaged and put it on my bill. I'll pay for them."

Shannon hesitated before nodding.

Laura stood in front of Shona and lowered her head. "Are you going to leave by yourself or do you want me to call the police?"

"Call the police? How dare you call the police?" Shona climbed up from the ground and slapped Laura in the face. "You ungrateful bitch! I can't believe you just said that you're going to call the police!"

At the top floor of the Jacobs Group.

Assistant Jacobs knocked on the door of the CEO's office.

"Mr. Jacobs, someone is causing trouble in the convenience store downstairs."

When Chris arrived downstairs, he saw a middle-aged woman standing in the store and behaving madly. The woman was shouting and cursing.

Laura was standing not too far away. She bit her lip and didn't do or say anything. Her fists on either side of her were tightly clenched.

Chris looked at the bodyguard behind him.

"You ungrateful bitch! Let me tell you..."

Before Shona could finish what she was saying, the bodyguard who had been behind Chris had already arrived next to her and grabbed hold of her.
