CHAPTER-3 MISS HIM

By the time I reached home, I was completely exhausted both mentally and physically.

Feeling tired and hungry, I was about to cry. “God, what did I do wrong?” I couldn’t control my hunger.

As soon as I entered my house, I was greeted by the delicious mouthwatering smell of my mom’s homemade food. God, I loved my mom.

I ran into the kitchen and saw her cooking. As soon as she saw me, she smiled and said “I know you must be hungry. You left without eating your breakfast so I made something for you. Come on, let’s eat together.”

Honestly, she didn’t even have to say those words because when I saw chicken, salad, rice and chocolate pancakes, I jumped on the dining table and started eating like a lunatic.

I couldn’t help it. I was really hungry and mom’s delicious food was just the cherry on top.

I heard mom laughing. I looked up at her and saw her smiling widely at me while laughing a bit too. Whoops! “Mom, you can’t laugh at me like that. I haven’t eaten anything since morning. You know I can’t control my hunger and you made these mouthwatering dishes for me. I can’t help but just shove them in my stomach.” I tried to defend myself with a mouth full of food.

Mom sat beside me and said “Okay, honey, I understand. But don’t speak while eating. The food is all yours. First finish it and then we’ll talk about your day.” She smiled at me.

I just nodded at her and continued eating. After a few minutes, I finished everything on the table. I helped her with the cleaning and then we sat on the couch in the living room.

Mom asked me about my day. I told her everything except the cafe incident. I mean, it wasn’t necessary, right? The day went by just like that and it was night time. I lay on my bed, thinking about telling dad the good news of me getting a job.

He would be very happy. Dad was in Chicago due to some of his secretive duty calls, about which only he and God knew.

My dad was very close to both of us, me and Janice, but when it came to work, he became fully professional, strict and straightforward. He didn’t take anybody’s shit. Well, he usually traveled a lot so we had shifted to NYC recently but he had to go to Chicago for some meeting on his boss’s behalf which I had no clue about.

I didn’t even know his name, just the company’s name. It was something like tax or no, maybe wax. What kind of name was that, Ella? Like really, wax corporations? I started laughing, thinking about it. No, it wasn’t wax. I remembered it was max. “Max corporations.” Yeah, that was the right one. My dad worked there.

I hoped he would come back soon. I missed him. Not only me, but Janice and mom too. We all missed him a lot. Enough of emotional thinking. From tomorrow, my life was going to take a huge turn. Finally, I got my dream job. I would get to be independent and make my parents proud.

Hush! What had gotten into me? I was getting too emotional today. Putting my emotional thoughts aside, it was time for my beauty sleep. Here I came.
