Chapter 2

Surely, she had made a mistake sleeping with Alpha Rowan. He was the type of man to forget her and move on with his soul mate.

She knew he wouldn’t esteem her higher than his jewelry company and pack. How could she have been so foolish? Was she about to repeat the same mistake her mother made?

She peeked into his office via the transparent window to see him speaking with a new colleague. She had just been employed the other day.

Why was he speaking with her for hours?

Her name was Quinn - she had learned of it.

Unlike her, Quinn had a strong build like a man. She was beautiful too and had long curly hair.

In jealousy, she stomped into his office without using the intercom and gave a false announcement.

“You have an appointment now sir. He has been waiting outside.”

Quickly he dismissed Quinn after giving her set instructions. On her way, she smiled in greeting Sasha. Her inner wolf grew in envy - something was calm and soothing about her which contrasted with her athletic figure.

Will Alpha Rowan have her too? He could have any she-wolf he wanted. Will she yield to his advances as she did? Her heart flew at the prospect of Alpha doing what he did to her with Quinn.

“Who do I have an appointment with?” He winked at her. “Jealous pumpkin. Why have you suddenly become jealous of every lady around me?” His expression changed to a frown. “That means you don’t trust me.”

“It’s not like that,” she shook her head and walked closer to him.

“I’m going to see what’s happening in the basement. I do not have time for this.” Alpha Rowan put the rugby he was holding in his hands down. And flung his Italian suit across his shoulders. His inner wolf was still on high at the fact that he conquered her yesterday.

Sasha smiled and walked out. She was fuming inside. He was going to the basement - where Quinn worked. What was he going to do there? When did he start supervising the basement? That was her job to do.

Sasha pressed her lips tightly against each other and fumed. She kicked herself in her head for not stopping him. She knew he was going to see her.

And she wouldn’t follow him. He must be the type to make any she-wolf jealous on purpose. She won’t feed his desire.

“I see the concern on your face,” Alpha Rowan said as he walked out - handing her a piece of paper. He made his way to the basement hoping to meet Quinn and discuss metals and shining stones.

At the basement, he looked around to see hardworking, back-bending workers setting stones and polishing them the way he liked it.

There was Quinn in a corner feeding her eyes with his presence. She could sense his air of command in the room and his gentle masculinity.

She felt on the edge of happiness as he walked towards her. She breathed in the air at Nightfall Gems. Surely this place was beautiful. Beauty and happiness were the aurae she got from Alpha Rowan.

“How are you finding work here?”

“Not bad.” Quinn smiled in response.

“If you need anything, don’t hesitate in coming to see me.”

Alpha Rowan felt a sense of duty to her after hearing about her sad story. Her parents became rogue wolves and abandoned her to fate. She grew up in Nightshade Pack - they were a pack of assassin wolves who killed for a good reason. She led a rough life and sustained many scars from her duty to her pack. Deep down, she wanted a way out of this life. She had dreamt of marrying into the arms of her beloved and resting from this dangerous life she was living.

Now she was 16, she had hoped to sense her fated mate. Surely it was not Alpha ROwan. Unsure as to whether he felt the same way about her, she drank in the quality of the man she adored.

“You are such a successful man and have built such a great empire.” Quinn complimented.

He stared at her demeanor. “You are beautiful.”

His compliment made her eyes giggle. She looked around to make sure no one was watching. Alpha Rowan cared less anyway.

“I would like you to carry my heir. You are different from the rest of the girls I have met. It shows.”

“There isn’t much I can promise you because I see beautiful females daily. But I’m sure of one thing - I need a strong bloodline to carry and raise my unborn kids. Nightfall Gems cannot fall into the laps of just anyone.”

Quinn was flattered to hear him boldly make his intentions. Does this mean he would like to marry her?

That’s definitely what he meant as he patted her on the shoulder. “Take care of yourself.” His palm was gentle and firm against hers.

“You will find your fated mate and make babies soon.” Quinn wasn’t going to show him she was flattered just yet.

“I don’t believe in fate. I am 19 and have yet to find my fated mate. I have found my soulmate in you.”

“I see the way Sasha looks at me since I got here. Is she like your girlfriend or something?”

He didn’t think she was quick-witted.

“You are not only beautiful - you are also smart and notice things quickly.” Alpha Rowan dodged her question.

“How is it that you want to marry me when you have someone else warming your bed?” Quinn got blunt. She needed to clarify things. One thing she wouldn’t do is let herself go for a man.

She had done that in the past and got her fingers burnt.

“Well as I explained - I need a compatible partner - not just a fated mate. And Sasha isn’t my girlfriend. We only fucked once.”

He was lying. He had seen the way he looked at her - like his prized possession.

She allowed herself to believe him.

I won’t ask further questions before I ruin things between us. He can have my body if he doesn’t want my soul. What a privilege to carry the baby of an Alpha - having led a rough life as an assassin all along.

“Think about my offer and get back to me when you have made a decision. We can work things out.” He let his gaze linger on her hips. She had fuller hips than Sasha - that was a good omen for childbearing.

Quinn melted into a frosty ball at his piercing gaze. He looked like he wanted to devour her. Was he always this hungry for women?

Seeing him in the basement had made her heart pound. But she wasn’t asking for a sexual partnership. She thought he had come here to ask about pearl earrings, diamond engagement rings, gold chains, and the likes.

The embarrassment caused her cheeks to burn. He must think she was cheap like the others.

In annoyance and respect for her dignity, she stormed after him - ready to give him a piece of her mind.

On getting there, she flung the door open - her eyes burrowed in a frown.

“How dare you make such a deal with me? I don’t care if I get fired at this moment. But I’ll surely put in my resignation letter before you do.”

“Or better still - you could kill me as a skilled assassin. You have a justifiable reason for doing so.” He joked, whirling on his executive chair.

“When you came after me in the basement and looked at me, I thought you felt the way I felt about you.”

“How do you feel about me, Quinn?”

Quinn ignored his question and mouthed.

I’m not just making babies. Is that all you see in me?”

“Then let’s make love,” Was his response, and with that, their tongues wrestled in a kiss that deepened every second.

At that moment, he felt a magnetic pull towards her. No, it wasn’t the sexual attraction or lustful heat. Her scent became alluring and unique. He scented something arousing and felt strangely drawn to her. He couldn’t resist how he felt though he wanted to feel different.

Quinn’s eyes grew in shock. Her body temperature rose and her heart raced towards and for him. “Don’t tell me it’s what I’m thinking.” She felt a burning in her heart and a heightened sense of erotic scent that told her he was the one. A sense of peace and completion overwhelmed her.

At that moment, she could see through him. She could read his mind and body language. Is this what accompanies a fated mate?

“Mate?” she asked him, eyes glittering in joy at the thought of him being her mate. How come they haven't felt the attraction earlier?

Never expecting it - Alpha Rowan pushed her aggressively from him. She almost hit her head on the hard floor. “Get away from me!” He roared to the bewildered Quinn.
