Sixteen

Nathan’s POV

Clara approached me and I immediately took a step backwards. I held my hand out and asked her to stop which she did, tilting her head as she ran her gaze over me.

I pinched the bridge of my nose in exaggeration and turned to the old man. “Sir, the female we are looking for is not Clara but Isabella,” I said.

“Maybe her name is Isabella. I only gave her the name Clara when I saw that the poor girl was unable to remember who she was. It was my wife's name, you know. And it's such a pretty name. And my wife was so pretty, the prettiest girl I ever saw. Too bad, she was also so stubborn. She never listened to me…” The old man began rambling, seemingly lost in his thoughts.

Jones came over to me and whispered to me, "What do we do now?"

“What else? We should head back home, of course. This was such a waste of time,” I said angrily.

“And make sure you find the person who gave the false information on Isabella,” I added angrily.
