Next steps and uninvited quest.

When they returned home, Sean spent his whole time in the office. Undoubtedly, he was still angry at his wife for her behavior.

Katherine was unfazed by that as she was happy that her plan worked. In the opposite to what happened before, they didn't stay at the Full Moon Pack, so her husband wasn't exposed to Camilla's charm for too long. The young Luna was trying to remember what it looked like the last time.

If she was right, they stayed for the night on their first visit, as she was, in fact, tired after the whole day. The next morning, she found her mate in the packhouse kitchen listening to Camilla like her words were water, and he was dying from thirst in the middle of the desert. He almost missed her coming in. That was the first red flag she had ignored.

She explained his behavior in trying to achieve his goal about the alliance as that was mostly a subject of their conversation since Cammila's Pack had much to offer as an ally. They spent half of the day there, and when they were finally able to leave, Sean looked so disappointed that it almost hurt. Katherine felt sorry for him like any other good mate would do.

As they returned home, he spent much time making calls to discuss alliance matters.

That was the second flag, as he never paid so much attention to the alliance's other members. Of course, they were in contact when needed, but here he was, searching for the tiniest reason to be in touch with the Full Moon. Katherine was not concerned too much about that as it looked like they were the most crucial part of this alliance.

She did not like to get involved in the politics between packs. As a Luna, Katherine focused on the needs of the pack members, and that was what she was most loved for. She was like a mother to all of them; every member knew she would always find the time to listen to them and help when required. Any problem was a top priority for her. It didn't matter how big or small it was. Katherine was so involved that even her mate occasionally joked that she loved her pack members more than him.

But that was not true. He was perfect, and she could not have asked for more. Nothing made her more proud than his care for the safety of the whole pack.

Thanks to his idea, anyone willing to do it was allowed to train, from the top warriors to the lowest omegas.

Every child in the pack started combat training at a very young age, of course, with their parent's or carer's permission. They usually treated this like fun, but Sean knew this would be useful in the event of any danger.

All the Alphas were focused on keeping their land and pack safe, but Katherine was sure no one was taking it as seriously as her mate.

Who could expect the danger to the pack to come from inside? Not her, and she was still blaming herself for this.

Many people lost their lives before because of how blinded she was.

At the time, all she was able to see was two strong Alphas doing their best to make life better for everyone. So, it was customary for them to discuss a lot through private calls. That's what the Alpha does.

She completely forgot about the little figure hiding somewhere in the shadows. And that was the most prominent, reddest flag in her life.

When Katherine came to her senses, it was way too late. Her husband was already under the influence of Camille. Even the mate bond couldn't win with how she wrapped him around her finger. Katherine became almost invisible but still an annoying part of his life, like a fifth wheel. So they decided to get rid of her at some point. They parted her from anyone who could stand by her side. The most stubborn ones, loyal to their Luna, usually met a horrible end. So, when people figured out what was happening, they stopped supporting her, fearing for their and their families' lives.

That is why Katherine was left alone when her so-called mate decided it would be better without her in the picture.

All those thoughts invaded her mind while she was alone in their bedroom.

~ You did the right thing. ~ Lucy reassured her. ~ Our mate will come to his senses at some point, and we have to do it to keep our relationship with the Full Moon to the absolute minimum until we figure out what to do next.

~ Do you think that would be enough to change our fate?- Katherine couldn't believe it could be that simple.

~ As long as we keep Sean away from this snake, we should be able to support ourselves and everyone else safely. If you would like to listen to me, I would advise you to go to Sean to check on him and maybe lift his mood a bit, if you know what I mean.

~ I don't think I can do it. - Katherine admitted.

~ You must try. He is still our mate. It will help. ~ Her wolf nodded her head in her mind.

Katherine decided to take a shot and left their bedroom, heading to her husband's office. As she got closer, she could hear voices coming from the other side.

Their Beta, Calvin, was inside talking to her mate.

~ We can't afford to miss such an opportunity. ~ Katherine heard her husband's voice. So he was still mad at her.

~ Are you not overreacting a bit? I don't think it was as bad as you say. Luna would never go against your plans. No one supports you more. ~ Calvin replied, and the woman felt grateful for those words.

~ You are probably right, but she acted strangely like something would be wrong about us staying there. The whole day, she was different.

~ You know Luna the best, but was she ever willing to stay outside the pack if it wasn't something significant?- Beta spoke again, making Katherine thank the Moon Goddess for him being so supportive.

Right now, she felt a pang of guilt building up inside of her. Calvin was always standing by her side in her previous life, but sadly, he lost his life in a rouges attack.

~ Yes, I know that, but it was necessary. We could seal the deal that day. ~ Her husband was sometimes so stubborn. It was a good thing most of the time, but otherwise, he acted just like a child who was told not to do something. Now, he was presenting the second option, and Katherine almost gritted her teeth.

~ I get your point, but she is your wife, mate, and most of all, the Luna of this pack. Sometimes, you should go her way. And now you should go to your bedroom and make it up to her. ~ Calvin laughed. Sean followed him a moment later.

Katherine decided it was a perfect moment to retreat to their bedroom as her husband would come there any minute. She turned around on her heels to go back when there was a loud knock on the ground floor door. She wondered who that could be, so she moved in this direction. She stood at the top of the stairs, waiting for an omega to open the door.

- What are you doing here, baby?- She almost got a heart attack, hearing the voice behind her back. She spun around to face her husband, with their Beta standing behind her.

- There was a knock on the door, but I think everyone was busy preparing dinner to hear it. - She explained.

- No worries, love, I will take care of this.- Her husband said, already walking down the stairs.

He soon reached the doors and opened them. Standing next to the Beta, Katherine couldn't see who that was.

But soon, the mystery was solved.

- Good evening. My Dad sent me here to be, let's say, an ambassador. - This voice couldn't be mistaken with any other, so Luna quickly passed by Beta to confirm her suspicions.

Camilla was standing at the entrance, soaked as it was raining outside. She forgot to take an umbrella with her, probably to gain some pity.

And it worked just perfectly. Sean was already inviting her inside, offering to take care of her coat dripping with water.

~ How long was she staying outside?~ Lucy asked in her mind.

~ Long enough. ~ Katherine answered, slowly walking down the stairs.

- Luna Katherine. It is so lovely to see you again. My father and I figured out that you prefer to be on your land as it is supposed to be, so here I am, ready to work more on our alliance. - She spoke happily, making Luna shudder inwardly. There was no way she could send her back right now without making it look not polite, so Katherine did the only thing she could. She offered her best smile and said,

- Please feel free to come in, Camilla. We will get the room ready for you so you can change before the dinner is served.

Their unexpected quest bowed her head, accepting her offer.

But Katherine was looking at her husband, who was beaming with joy like a child on Christmas morning.

~ This viper!~ Lucy growled in her mind, bearing her teeth.

~ Calm down. We will sort it out. ~ Luna calmed her wolf down.

She needed to be careful as it was something new. And she was adamant about winning this round.
