CHAPTER 4

The voice I heard was definitely Riley. It brought tears to my eyes to know that she was close by.

I took in a deep breath and asked, “Are you okay?... Where are you? What's going on?”

“I'm so glad I can hear you,” she said and she was crying, “I thought you were dead C”

“Me too Ri and I didn't know what to do,” I said, clutching my chest in desperation.

I had been wearing the same clothes for God knows how long and it was evident from the way I smelled. I required a hot shower.

"It's obvious that they had a specific target in mind, and they had inside help," she said confidently, her voice steady despite the intensity of the situation.

"But we're not going to let them get away with this. We're going to figure out who they are, what they want, and how we can stop them. We won't rest until we've got this all under control.”

It had to have been an inside job because everything happened so fast.

My mind was swirling with different possibilities and to say I was scared was an understatement. I wanted it all to be over.

“Have you met their leader? He said I was supposed to be the strongest of them all. What does that mean, Ri?” I asked, feeling so confused.

“I have and he's such a pain. Alpha Derek believes you're some kind of child from the prophecy. I honestly have no idea what he's talking about and we'll only know what we're told until we can get out of here” she said, already exasperated.

I felt tears welling up in my eyes for the umpteenth time and I willed myself to not let them fall. What was the possibility of us leaving this place unscathed?

“I have to go C, someone's coming! Stay safe and whatever you do, don't give in to the torture. We will leave this place and we'll all be together again!” She said hurriedly as her voice faded in my mind.

“Noo! Riley!! Riley, don't go! Noo…At that, I broke down sobbing. I couldn't take the stress anymore.

The chains on my hands and feet stop me from moving to the door so I can bang on it.

I started shouting, “Let me go! Please let me go!” I kept shouting for a long time before I heard the footsteps of someone walking towards the door.

Thinking it was going to be Alpha Derek I straightened up to ask him questions and get to the bottom of this.

I didn't expect to see a woman dressed in tight leather pants and a matching corset top to walk in smiling at me.

I gathered enough energy to stand up but she kicked me at my side making me fall down and at this point, I didn't know what to do.

She sneered as I was crying, “Who are you and what do you want from me?” I asked.

“Oh, you don't see the resemblance? You must be really slow. Chains make you that weak?” She said sarcastically.

I tried to think of why her face looked so damn familiar but I couldn't come up with anything. Then it hit me.

“You're his sister,” I whispered fearfully.

“I am Fiona. And I'm going to kill and destroy anything standing in my way of having Christian Xavier all to myself” she said, dragging me up to my feet and walking from one end of the room to another.

“You can have him, of course. Why do you have to do all of this?” I said hoping I could make some sense from all that was happening.

It appears Fiona likes the sound of her voice because she continued talking.

“It's hard to get his attention when he has finally found his mate,” she said, fully turning her attention back to me.

With wide eyes I told her “Alpha Christian hasn't found his mate yet, the ceremony just happened and he didn't find her. We would all know if he did”.

She stared at me as if I had grown two heads. A bit of fangs could be seen as she slowly smiled at me.

“I'm sure you're wondering how we knew so much about the ceremony and the prophecy and who you are” She was walking towards me slowly.

“We have an inside man that gives us all the information we need down to where you live and the exact place everyone will be that day”.

As she was talking my mind was doing calculations on who the person she was talking about would be.

“Our man told us the exact time your Alpha found his mate. When he did we knew that was our cue to set our plan in motion” she said clapping her hands.

“Look…. I'm sure he lied” I said, trying to convince her.

She laughed maniacally, “he wouldn't dare lie to my brother now. I mean, it's not every day you get to work for the most powerful man in the land”

Fiona clearly had some screws loose in the head, that was evident. But I saw Alpha Christian the day of the ceremony and he hadn't met his mate yet.

Except, and if what she was saying was true…then that means…he's…. No he couldn't be.

“I'm sure by now the little gears in your head are turning” she said, laughing at me.

At the moment her voice was sounding so far away but what she said was still turning in my head.

He couldn't be my mate. It can't be. He was the Alpha and I was nobody. What does this mean Goddess? Why would you pair me with him?

“Well I'm sure you've added it up by now. He is in fact your mate, you just haven't realized it yet. You know these things take time” she said, waving her hand.

“It can't be,” I whispered softly.

“Why of course it can't. And nobody can come between Alpha Christian and me” she said angrily.

“And that is why you should know by now that you are in big, big trouble!”

Oh no
