Chapter 4

MILDRED’S P.O.V

I sucked in a deep breath as I walked down the aisle nervously with my newfound husband.

The wedding hall was filled with different people from around the kingdom.

I tried to keep my composure as I walked down the aisle, but I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I was so nervous, so scared.

As I reached the altar, I saw him standing there, tall and imposing. His eyes were cold and hard, and I felt a shiver of fear run down my spine. I was about to be married to a man I didn't know, a man I had never met before, and my Alpha.

“My Lord, do you take Lady Ximena here as your wife?” The elder asked as we both stood face to face with each other.

I looked up at Enid, my heart pounding in my chest. I wanted to say no, to run away and never look back. But I knew that I couldn't. I was trapped, I had no choice.

"I do," he replied, his voice cold and distant.

I chuckled inwardly knowing it was all a charade, the dude literally rejected me just a few minutes ago.

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure. I was about to become his wife, and I was terrified of what that would mean.

"Do you, Lady Ximena, take this man as your husband?" the elder asked me and I stilled unable to give a reply.

“I….I….I…I..” I kept fumbling with my words, not being able to say anything.

“Do you Lady Ximena take Alpha Enid to be your husband?” The elder asked again and I felt everyone settle their eyes on me.

“I… Yes,” I suddenly blurted out as Enid's hold on me suddenly tightened and he threw me a threatening glare.

What was he doing? I was simply stealing another person's identity, he was making me live as Ximena, not Mildred.

The elder gave us rings which we exchanged.

“You may now kiss the bride..” he said and I froze. There was no way I was going to kiss him. He was going looking, yes. But I just couldn't kiss him.

Before I could bring myself to say anything, he had already wrapped his hands around my waist and drew me closer to himself.

Wait there's no way he's going to kiss me!! I shrieked in my mind.

But what he did next shocked me!

He didn't kiss me, no he didn't!

Instead, he placed his big thumb on my lips and kissed it instead.

I felt pained at that very moment, did I really disgust him that much?

Was that how much he hated me?

“You are now husband and wife.” He announced and the thundering clapping broke me out of my reverie.

I stood there, frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest. The room was filled with noise, the clapping and cheering of the guests. But I couldn't hear any of it. I was numb, unable to process anything that was happening.

……

I stood beside Enid at the reception as he said hi to the guests, who came to congratulate him.

I knew no one around, so I made sure I was always around him.

I even saw my family, my mother, step-sister, and father.

I was sure they'd not noticed that I was missing.

Then I saw my parents approaching us.

“Your Highness” my father, mother, and Molly bowed in respect to Enid and then they turned to bow to me.

I could swear that scene was the happiest moment of my marriage.

“My queen..” they all bowed in respect.

“You look so gorgeous, my queen..” Molly giggled, coming to stand in front of me.

I wasn't sure that was right, because she would recognize me in a heartbeat.

“You… Millie?” She uttered with a look of uncertainty on her face as she studied me squarely.

Enid seemed to have noticed this and he came to hold my hand.

“Come on my queen. You should say hi to the other guests..” he said, taking me away from them.

“Who are they?” He asked.

“My family..” I replied.

“Your father's an Alpha?” He questioned and I shook my head.

“I see..” he mumbled to himself and from the look on his face, it seemed like he was going to take care of it.

“We should be more careful. No one should know about this. You're Ximena from now on..” he stated and I wanted to object but I found myself nodding in agreement.

This might come in handy, being a queen.

There was a chance of me having my revenge on Molly, besides I had the upper hand now.

“Tomorrow a stylist will visit you. Change your looks..” he instructed and I knew he was talking about my hair and eye color.

“Yes, Your Highness..” I replied in a croaked voice.

Oh jeez!! When was the last time I had water?

“It's Enid..” he said, handing over a glass of juice to me.

“Thanks,” I muttered.

“Hi Enid..” a woman approached us as she waved at Enid.

“Oh. The latest groom in town..” she grinned.

“Ximena..” she called as her eyes studied me.

From the way she looked at me, I could tell she was quite surprised.

“I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the wedding on time..” she apologized.

“It's nothing..” Enid waved her off. It seemed like they were very close to each other. Who was she?

“Can I borrow your bride for a while?” She asked, pouting.

“Sure..” Enid obliged and she quickly approached me.

“Come on Ximena..” she uttered, taking me to a corner.

The moment we were far away from the eyes of the guests, her grip on me tightened.

And her kind look suddenly changed.

“What the hell are you doing here?” She asked, letting go of my hand harshly.

“I…” I began not knowing what to say to her or what reply to even give.

“Now don't play dumb with me! I thought I asked you to go very far away. What the hell are you doing here Ximena? No wait or should I call you Genevieve?” she asked with a menacing look, fuming with anger.

My feet remained rooted to the ground. Ximena this l, Ximena that. Now Genevieve? Now who the hell was this woman?

And why was she acting like she knew Ximena so well? And why did people keep calling me Ximena? Who the fuck was Ximena?

I really felt like passing out at that very moment.
