Author's POV

“Venessa’s older cousin sister,” Claire confirmed.

Tasha’s eyes narrowed as she stared at Claire’s laptop screen, still absorbing the surprise from earlier.

“Venessa Steele...” she muttered under her breath. “What are the odds she’s working on this project?”

Claire, who was still seated beside her, shrugged casually. “Turns out she’s related to Vivienne Steele. Older cousin. That’s probably how she got looped into the Paris team. Small world, right?”

Tasha shook her head, unable to hide the slight irritation at the coincidence. “Of course. That explains why she’s here.”

Claire smirked. “Yeah, I think she’s got family connections. I thought you might find that interesting.”

“I don’t find it interesting,” Tasha replied, a small, amused smile tugging at

Just as Tasha was about to answer Robbin’s question, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his face immediately growing serious. “I have to take this,” he muttered, stepping away for some privacy. Tasha exhaled slowly, grateful for the temporary reprieve. Her mind raced as she watched Robbin disappear into the room, his voice low as he answered the call. She hadn’t been ready to talk about Daniel. Five years of running, hiding, and keeping secrets couldn’t just unravel in a single conversation, especially not now, with Robbin. Moments later, Robbin returned, his expression unreadable. He tucked his phone into his pocket, glancing at her with a mix of concern and something else she couldn’t quite place. “I have to step out for a bit,” he said, his tone clipped. “Something came up.” Tasha frowned. “Is everything okay?” Robbin nodded, but his eyes betrayed him. “Yeah, just... business. I’ll be back soon.” He walked to the living room, leaned down to give Ethan a quick pat

Stanley. The man who had been Daniel’s best friend. The man she had last spoken to five years ago, the night before she left without a word. Tasha’s heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, she froze, her gaze locking with Stanley’s as he casually entered the room, his presence effortlessly commanding attention. He looked just the same, with that same air of confidence. Robbin, standing by the back of the room, immediately picked up on Tasha’s sudden hesitation. He discreetly edged closer, ready to step in if needed, but Tasha took a breath, steeling herself. She had to keep going. This was too important to let the past derail her. Stanley found a seat midway through the room, his eyes never leaving her. The last conversation they’d had echoed in Tasha’s mind, his worried voice asking her what was wrong, his confusion when she’d avoided telling him the truth about Daniel, and the guilt she carried for leaving behind without explanation. But now, in the middle of this impor

Author's POV Daniel was supposed to attend the presentation. It was a critical part of his role, a moment to show focus in the business world. But instead, he had chosen to pass the responsibility to Stanley. After all, Stanley could handle it, he always did. And something else had been pulling at Daniel’s mind ever since Venessa was part of the Paris team. The connection gnawed at him, and yet, there was another distraction, one he hadn’t fully acknowledged until now. He hadn't heard from the little boy. The thought was unsettling, and Daniel couldn’t shake it. Something about the kid drew him in, something familiar yet Implacable. As he made his way out the apartment, Daniel stopped at the fifteenth floor. He rang the doorbell, shifting slightly as he waited. A woman opened the door, and for a second, his heart raced with anticipation, hoping it was her Ethan’s mother. But no. "Are you Ethan’s mother?" Daniel asked, trying to mask the disappointment in his voice. The woma

Daniel walked into his office, his mind still replaying the brief encounter with Ethan and the mysterious Ms. Taylor. He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to the story, but he had to push it aside for now. There were matters at the office that demanded his attention. As he stepped into the building, his assistant, Emma, was already waiting by his office door, a tablet in hand. She looked up and gave him a polite smile, though there was a hint of concern in her eyes. “Mr. Sterlings, good morning. You have a busy schedule today. The board meeting has been moved up to tomorrow, and there’s a stack of reports you need to review before then,” she said, handing him a list of his appointments. Daniel took the tablet and nodded, his expression thoughtful. “Thanks, Emma. I’ll go through these now. Is Stanley back yet?” “He’s on his way up, sir. He mentioned he’d be stopping by to give you a report on the presentation.” “Good,” Daniel replied absently, already flipping

Daniel shook his head, but the lightness he felt in his chest was undeniable. Stanley was right about one thing: he was curious. And that curiosity was going to drive him crazy. ********** Robbin’s smile was warm as they all entered the apartment. Ethan ran to him with excitement, eager to show off his gadgets. “Look, dad! I’ve been learning how to use the laptop you got me!” Ethan grinned, his little fingers moving across the keys. Tasha stood by the kitchen counter, watching the two of them bond. She couldn’t deny the warmth she felt seeing Ethan so happy. Robbin had been nothing but kind to her and Ethan, but every time he got a little too close, she felt the urge to pull back. The ghost of her past, Daniel hovered over her, casting a shadow on everything. As Robbin placed Ethan’s laptop on the table and turned toward her, she could feel his eyes lingering just a little too long. “Can we talk for a second?” Robbin asked, his voice soft, but there was an intensity behind it.

Daniel's POV Stanley left my office with that smug grin still plastered on his face. As the door clicked shut behind him, I leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. Tasha. Here, in New York. Working on the very project I’ve invested into, Belvoir Couture. The irony was almost unbearable. I thought she was gone for good. When she walked out of my life, there was no looking back. I was sure of it. Yet, here she is. In my city. After all these years, she's back, and somehow, she managed to slip into my world again without even trying. The memories flooded back the arguments, the misunderstandings, the slap. I never cared. I should have. But I was too caught up in the lies and manipulations of my past, too blind to see the truth in front of me. And then... she was gone, leaving me in the wreckage of our life, unable to fix what I had destroyed. I picked up the desk phone, dialing my assistant. "Emma," I said, my voice steady but my heart racing. "Get me e

Author's POV Tasha stood by the kitchen counter, pouring a glass of juice when she heard soft footsteps behind her. She turned, and a smile spread across her face as Claire walked in with Ethan, his backpack slung over his tiny shoulders. "Look who’s sharp and ready for school!" Claire said with a bright grin, giving Ethan’s hair a playful ruffle. Ethan beamed up at her, his nervousness momentarily forgotten. "Mom helped me pick out my clothes!" he said, standing proudly in his crisp blue shirt and khakis, looking every bit the brave boy ready for his first day. Tasha chuckled, glancing at her son with a touch of pride. “He’s been planning this outfit all week.” Claire knelt down beside Ethan, adjusting his shirt. "Well, you look like the coolest kid in the entire school. You’re going to make a lot of new friends today, right?" Ethan nodded eagerly, his earlier doubts seemingly erased by Claire’s infectious enthusiasm. “Yeah! I’m ready!” Tasha smiled warmly, grateful for

Mr. Belvoir: "Tasha, just wanted to personally commend you on your incredible work so far. The designs are bold, innovative everything I expected and more. Looking forward to seeing them shine at the upcoming contest. We’re in for something spectacular." Tasha’s heart skipped a beat, a mix of pride and pressure swirling inside her. Mr. Belvoir rarely sent personal messages, and his praise meant a lot. It also meant that the stakes were even higher for the upcoming fashion contest, her biggest opportunity yet. Claire returned from the kitchen with a cup of coffee, noticing the look on Tasha’s face. “Good news?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. Tasha held up her phone. “Mr. Belvoir... He’s impressed with everything so far.” Claire grinned. “See? I told you. You’re killing it.” Tasha set the phone down, though her mind was already racing with everything left to do. “Yeah, but the contest... It’s still coming up fast. This could either make my career or sink it. Everything has to be

Vanessa’s breath came in sharp, ragged gasps as she glared at Tasha, her eyes burning with pure hatred. Her fingers twitched as if itching to grab the gun again, but Daniel stood between them now, his stance rigid, protective. “You should have stayed away from me and my family,” Tasha said, stepping closer, her voice like ice. “You should have accepted Daniel’s offer and left to start over.” Vanessa let out a bitter laugh, her face twisting in anger. “Start over?” she spat. “While you get to have everything? While I’m left with nothing?” Tasha’s jaw clenched. Enough. Without warning, she struck her palm cracking against Vanessa’s cheek in a sharp, resounding slap. Vanessa’s head snapped to the side, but before she could react, another slap landed, harder, making her stumble slightly. “Don’t ever mess with my family,” Tasha warned, her voice low and deadly. “Or next time, there will be no next cause you won’t even get the opportunity to do that.” Vanessa’s lips curled into

Vanessa’s eyes blazed with long buried resentment, her voice dripping with venom. “Do you know why I’ve always hated you?” she asked, her tone low but vibrating with raw emotion. Tasha didn’t flinch, her gaze steady. “Of course,” she replied coldly. “You said it yourself, it’s always about Daniel.” Vanessa’s lips curled into a bitter snarl. “Not just that,” she spat, her voice trembling with anger. “You took everything away from me. You stole my future. You and that bitch, Vivienne.” Tasha’s eyes narrowed at the mention of Vivienne. A cold wave of realization passed through her, but she stayed silent, letting Vanessa unravel. Vanessa continued, her voice rising with each word. “Do you remember the full ride scholarship to the fashion school Mr. Sterling offered you back then? That scholarship was supposed to be mine!” Her fists clenched, her nails digging into her palms. “I worked for it, I earned it. But then you showed up, some nobody from the gutter and took it from me!”

Tasha’s footsteps crunched softly against the damp earth as she neared the back of the Edge Café. The old, weathered building loomed silently in the early morning mist, the neon sign above flickering faintly as if struggling to wake up with the rest of the world. Beyond the café, the narrow path led down toward the stream, the gentle sound of flowing water growing louder with each step. Her heart pounded, every beat echoing in her ears as she slowed her pace. The air smelled of earth and dew, a crispness that clung to her skin. She scanned the area, her eyes sharp beneath the shadow of her hoodie. The place was eerily still. No movement. No sign of Vanessa. Yet. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and she pulled it out, her stomach twisting. It was a message from Daniel: I’m on my way. Stay where I can find you. Tasha’s thumb hovered over the reply button, but she

He hesitated, clearly torn between his duty and her command. “Ma’am, please—” “I’ll be fine,” she interrupted gently but firmly. “No one follows me.” The guard clenched his jaw, clearly uncomfortable with the idea, but reluctantly nodded. “Be careful,” he muttered, watching as she slipped through the gate and disappeared into the early morning haze. The air outside was crisp, almost biting, but Tasha barely felt it. She pulled the hoodie over her head, tucking her hair inside as she walked briskly down the street. Every step echoed in her ears, mingling with the rapid beat of her heart. Her phone vibrated in her pocket, and she quickly pulled it out. A message flashed across the screen. I knew you’d come around. Meet me behind the café, down to the stream. Tasha scoffed softly, shaking her head. She glanced at the time 5:20 AM. Time was slipping fast. Without thinking too much, she opened her messages and typed quickly to Daniel. Meet me behind the café, down to the str

Tasha wiped at her damp cheeks, her body trembling from the emotional weight pressing down on her. The memories were still disjointed, flickering in and out like a broken film reel, but they were there. She could feel them clawing their way to the surface, demanding to be acknowledged. She sniffled and reached for her phone, her fingers shaking slightly as she unlocked the screen. Her first instinct was to call Daniel, to hear his voice, to confirm what she had just remembered. But as her thumb hovered over his contact, she hesitated. A call felt too much right now. Too raw. Too personal. Instead, she swiped over to her messages, her mind racing with the right words to say. Her pulse thrummed loudly in her ears as she typed out the message: Let’s meet. I want to know, and give you what you truly want. Maybe then, I can even get my full memories back. Her thumb hovered over the send button. She bit her lip, her heart hammering in her chest. Was this the right thing to do?

Robbin leaned in gently, his lips brushing Tasha’s forehead with a tenderness that made her chest tighten. It was a simple gesture, but it carried unspoken words, emotions layered beneath years of complicated history. “Goodnight, Tasha,” he whispered softly against her skin, lingering for just a heartbeat before stepping back and walking toward the guest room. Tasha stood there for a moment, rooted in place. She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his touch lingering even after he’d left. But beneath that warmth, there was a faint unease, a hollow echo in her chest that she couldn’t explain. Later that night, the apartment was cloaked in silence. The soft hum of the refrigerator was the only sound, punctuated occasionally by the faint creaks of the old floorboards settling. Tasha drifted into a restless sleep, the exhaustion finally pulling her under. But sleep did not bring peace. Tasha found herself standing in the middle of an unfamiliar room dimly lit, shadows clinging to

Tasha leaned against the wall in the quiet hallway, her arms loosely crossed over her chest. The soft glow from Ethan’s nightlight spilled faintly into the corridor, casting long shadows that seemed to echo the lingering questions in her heart. Robbin stood a few feet away, his hands in his pockets, watching her with that steady, unreadable gaze. "Umm, Robbin…" she began hesitantly, her voice low but carrying the weight of her thoughts. "The last time… I didn’t mean to pry, but in London, you said you were in Paris for… umm, family." She paused, frowning slightly as she searched the corners of her hazy memory. "But you’ve never mentioned anything about family before. Besides Aunt Linda." Robbin’s casual demeanor shifted subtly. His smile faded, replaced by something guarded. He rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding her eyes for a moment. "It wasn’t family," he finally admitted, his voice quieter than before. Tasha’s brows knit together. "Then who?" Robbin exhaled sharply,

Robbin had just stepped out of Ethan’s room, rubbing the back of his neck, exhaustion etched into his features. He’d been pacing around, worried when Tasha had been gone longer than expected. The hospital corridor was eerily quiet, the hum of fluorescent lights buzzing faintly above. As he turned the corner, he froze. There was Tasha standing with Daniel, both of them visibly shaken, Daniel’s hand still resting protectively on Tasha’s arm. Her face was pale, her breathing uneven, and Daniel’s jaw was clenched tight, his body tense as if ready for a fight. Confusion flashed across Robbin’s face, his brows knitting together as he rushed toward them. His eyes darted from Tasha’s trembling form to Daniel’s hardened expression. “Tasha, are you okay?” His voice was laced with concern, his gaze searching hers for answers. Before Tasha could even find her voice, Daniel spoke, his tone sharp and edged with frustration. “It’s Vanessa. She showed up.” Robbin’s eyes darkened instantly,

Daniel remained rooted to the spot, his heart pounding like a drum. Tasha’s words lingered in the air, soft but heavy, like a thread pulling at memories he couldn’t suppress. “Thank you, Daniel.” It wasn’t much, but it was enough to ignite a flicker of hope in the wreckage of his heart. Finally, he stood, brushing his palms over his jeans as if trying to steady himself. He quietly made his way back into Ethan’s room, the soft beep of the monitors the only sound filling the space. Robbin was seated by Ethan’s bedside, flipping through a magazine, though his eyes weren’t really focused on the pages. Daniel’s gaze softened when it landed on Ethan, who was still fast asleep, his small chest rising and falling steadily. Daniel crouched beside the bed, his fingers gently brushing through his son’s hair. Leaning in, he whispered softly, “Hey, buddy. I’ll be back soon, okay? Daddy’s just stepping out for a little bit. You’re doing great, champ.” Ethan stirred slightly, his sleepy eyes
