ELOISE

Despite my doubts, I had no choice but to play along. Once inside the elevator, I removed the coat from my head and confronted them.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“We’re saving you, obviously,” Chase snapped.

“And those people won’t stop until they get their answers,” Zoey said, folding her arms.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked skeptically. “Last time I checked, we weren’t exactly friends.”

She smirked. “Listen up, sweetheart. This is the mess you signed up for. Be grateful we showed up on time. But don’t get it wrong, though. We didn’t do this for you,” she said.

Of course not. She did it for Adam because she was still fucking him. I wasn’t blind.

“I didn’t ask for your help anyway.”

“You’re still so naïve,” she remarked. “You know nothing about Adam. Do you think he really likes you? No. You’re just another one of his—”

“Stop it, Zoey. Goddammit!” Chase yelled, his voice echoing in the elevator. “Please.”
