He looked in the room and saw it was furnished with a small cot bed and a computer. “I think you might need to explain this to me.” He said softly as she took a step in.
“What is to explain?” She asked. “It came with the house.”
“But why?” he asked as he turned to her.
“I’m not sure. I thought it was cool, but it would never really have a big purpose here. There is another smaller one in the basement that is supposed to be a wine cellar but has a safe room of sorts that is concealed.” Haven said with a shoulder shrug
Haven stood there waiting for some sort of response from the man who was trying to read her. She pulled out her phone and looked at the man in front of her again. She knew it was a long shot, but she hoped it was enough of a bluff that she didn’t have to call her brother over to her house. She would never hear the end of it, and Mack would be trapped in the room for hours while she got lectured. The officer was debating on what to do. He looked at her again and then looked around him and nodded. The men that were placing things a few minutes ago were taking everything out from the hiding spots that they had placed them. She didn’t show her relief as she stood there looking and watching the men work.
“This one is smaller.” She said softly when he rolled slightly off of her and eased his arm that was pinning her to his side. “I know.” He said. “We might as well enjoy this seclusion. I mean, who knows how long I will have to be in here.”“I, however, do not have to be in here.” She said as she laughed. “I guess I should show you the last part of the room.”“There is more?’ he asked.“Well, I think it was supposed to be a
Haven looked at him as he cupped her bottom with his hand and looked into her eyes. “I should order dinner.” She repeated. “What do you want?” “Anything would be nice.” He smiled. “Though right now, I think you are the desert.” “Mack.” She said softly. “Nope. You aren’t going to get away from me that easily.” He said as the color in his eyes changed right before her eyes. “I have to go to call Kyle.” She said
Haven waited until the pizza arrived, knowing that her brother was also on his way. She brought the box to Mack and then shut the door to the safe room. He was resting, which is what she wanted in the first place. Though so much was rolling through her right now, she had to focus on one thing at a time. Mack’s reentrance in her life was with a huge bang, and she knew it was going to be a major thing in the end. Her life was never going to be the same, but right now, she had to deal with this new situation with the police. Everything was going to have to happen one step at a time. In her mind, everything had a place. Every place took its own space and would fit together when needed.
“I really don’t know where I should begin.” Mack said with a sigh, “I started to notice things were a little off during the last investigation that we were handling. It was weird. It seemed they always knew when we were going to be doing something to try and catch them in the act. Though we knew they were responsible for have the crime in the area, we could never get them doing something. We were just a little to late to actually catch them in the act.” “Okay, so what did you think you had a leak?” Haven asked, and he chuckled, knowing that she would see it clearly right off the bat. “It took some time to get to th
He looked at her and then closed his mouth. He didn’t know what to say. It was something he never expected. Haven looked at him and waited for him to say something. Anything. He just looked at her. “Mack?” Haven asked. “How is he related to you again?” He asked.“A cousin. Though he is really my mother’s cousin.” Haven said as she looked at him. “She wasn’t close to her family until they needed something. She wasn’t close to hi
“Then, you have it,” Mack said as he pulled her closer. “The idea was always there between us, and now you have accepted it. That is the best to take away from all of this.”“That makes you happy?” she asked.“Haven, that makes me want to end this so we can just be together without having some things interrupt us.” He said as he kissed her cheek, and then he moved to her forehead. “I don’t want anyone to bother us right now, but we can’t do too much right now. They are outside, and you are supposed to be alone. Even in a safe room when I do have you the way I want you most, you will be screaming for
Haven sighed as she walked through her house. The day had really taken a lot out of her. Though her body was begging to just lie down, she knew they still were going to talk some more. She steadied herself for whatever would happen between them. Though she knew he was still in pain, and that was the only thing stopping him despite what he said about her screaming for him. She was going to hate informing him that no man had ever made her scream. She had very few experiences, but none of them had been anything to remember. She didn’t find that to be a thing she worried about in any way. She knew Mack was the person she had waited for since she was a kid. Now he was right there.
