First Date

I sat on the floor of my closet, not knowing what to wear. I felt like messaging Nicholas to cancel, but that would be selfish of me all because I didn't know what to wear.

I finally decided on a little pink dress, but changed my mind at the last minute, picking something else.

I looked at myself in the mirror, hoping that I'm not overdoing it or creating the wrong impression.

Being the nervous wreck I am about this pending date, I had to fan my sweaty armpits.

I just hope I don't mess this up, seeing that I had no idea where I was going.

I stood there staring at myself, once again stressing the small stuff.

Should my hair be up, down, curly, straight?

What?

I played with my stiletto nails as I waited for Nicholas to show up.

At one point, I was close to start cleaning, just to try and settle my nerves.

I paced the length of my livingroom, waiting for him.

Then the bell rang, causing me to jump and my heart to race.

I glance at myself one last time in a mirror on the wall before opening the door.

"H—wow." Nicholas breathed out.

"Hey yourself." I smiled at him.

"Hmm, ready? Well, of course you are."

Nicholas led me to his car, a black mustang and open the door for me.

"Thank you, so where to?"

Nicholas only winks at me, then says. "It's a series of events."

I nod, "ok."

I buckle myself in, then glanced over at Nicholas. “Put your seat belt on."

"Nah, I don't like these things. I feel restricted by it, besides I have never been in an accident before." He started the car.

"Well, it is still the safest bet, so put your seat belt on."

Nicholas gave a small laugh, but still didn't make a move to put it on.

We made light conversation as Nicholas drove. He still didn't tell me where we were going.

Not long after, we pulled up outside a coffee shop.

"Late night coffee?" I quizzed.

I got no reply. All he did was greet the owner, then led me to a table in the back.

"I know that this might not be what you expect, or be used to, but I want to keep our first date light and relaxed."

"It's nice, cute."

Nicholas cracked a small, "the last female I brought here refused to leave the car. She wanted me to bring her to a fancier location or home. Of course I brought her home. It was a good thing too. She turned out to be a real bitch."

"I know what you mean. I once dated this guy who thought I would give him a free house after just one week. He only wants to go on trips and never contributed. After we broke up, he tried to sue me for emotional damage."

"The worst for me was getting engaged to a chick. Never worked out. She was trying to control me. She wanted the perfect man."

"You were engaged?" I was behind shock by that piece of information.

"Yea, sorry. I shouldn't have been blabbing about my ex." Nicholas said.

"No, it's fine. Sometimes it's good to talk, get out whatever has been bothering you." I assured him.

Just then a server came by with waffles covered in nutella.

"Waffles for dinner? What next candy for dessert?" I joked.

Nicholas cracked a smile, "actually yes, with wine."

I dug into my two waffles, which was much sweeter than I would have made.

Again we made light conversation, until the server came to take our plate away, only to replace it with a box of chocolate and wine.

"What kind of chocolate is this?" I examined the box.

Nicholas shrugged. "I do not know."

I looked up at him with a laugh, "what?"

"Yeah, I never actually tried to find out what they have here. It might be Japanese,’’ He said.

"So this might not actually be chocolate, then?"

''At least we will be surprised." He handed the first chocolate to me. "Lady's first."

"Ok," I chuckled, taking the white chocolate that was handed to me.

I popped it into my mouth, then made a face, "no, no. I don't like that one. It's spicy." I spat it into a napkin.

"Let me try one." Nicholas took out a chocolate that had red swirls on it. His face showed uncertainty.

"It's like minty. I don't know what to think of it."

"Let me try this one." I picked up one that was covered in peanuts.

I spoke between chews, "it's not bad."

Half way through the box, we made up stories about the people in the coffee shop and laughed.

"He looks tough with his tattoos, but he secretly watches cooking shows and makes a mean chicken pot pie." Nicholas said, I glanced back at the man then did an ugly laugh.

"How about that lady? I bet she is an alien cat and pretending to check her watch so often to seem normal."

Nicholas laughed, "she's waiting for the mother ship."

He glanced at his watch. I thought he was mimicking the lady until he made a face.

"We should go." He said, then gestured for the server to come over.

"This is really nice," I touched Nicholas' hand.

He held onto my hand with his free hand, then circled his thumb on the back of my hand.

"Ready for the next part of our date?"

"Next part?" I asked.

"I hope you didn't think that this was the end?" He smiled.

"I honestly don't know what to think with you."

"I'm a fun-loving guy who wants to show a pretty girl a good time."

Nicholas helped me out of my seat, but never let go of my hand and instead of getting into his car, we walked the short distance to a park, that had a two lawn chairs, and a sheet acting as a backdrop for a movie screen.

"Oh wow, ok.'' I said.

"Welcome to Nick's drive-in movie." He bowed.

"Do you take all your dates here?" I took a seat.

"Honestly, no. I thought about this at the last minute."

I smiled, believing him.

"So what movie are we watching?" I asked after a pause.

"Well, Vanessa told me you like animes, so I got Vampire hunter D. That's if you haven't seen it before." Nicholas played with a remote in his hand.

"I heard it was a good watch,'' I said. Although I had seen it before, I never told him that.

At first we were silent until Nicholas asked if I was ok.

"I am, thanks."

He then did something I was not expecting. He took my hand in his and gave it a gentle kiss.

Again we fall in silence, with me deep in thought. Wondering if this date could lead to something more.

'Even if we start a relationship, how far it would go?'

'I gave his hand a small squeeze. Maybe I'm just over thinking this.'

'I should just let it flow and see where things lead.'

'Hopefully to something great, and if not, I'll just take it as a loss.'

Soon the movie ends, with Nicholas trying to make jokes about being a vampire.

"I knew it. That was your plan all along to get me alone and drink my blood." I joked back.

I poked him in the chest, only for him to cringe.

"Sorry, was that your-?"

"Nipple," he finished.

"Yeah, sorry." I cleared my throat.

"Its fine, hmm. I guess it's time to get you home." He said a while after.

"I guess." I agreed, though I didn't want the night to end.
