"Where are you taking us to?" I asked when we were in his car. He had dismissed Denise, loading her with a stack of cash for her Uber back home.

He looked straight ahead as he drove, responding, "Another hospital. Is that not what I promised you?"

I kept my mouth shut at that, letting him drive us. The entire ride was silent, save for the times that my daughter fell in and out of unconsciousness. I wondered if he would eventually let me go so we could go back to our old life together… Me, my daughter and Denise.

What if I just told him the truth? No. No, men like this… he could try to take my child and over my dead body would I let my child grow up anywhere close to this man. He was dangerous, a part of something that was too dark for us.

I would not let my daughter grow up around that…

After a long ride, we finally stopped in front of a huge hospital and my daughter got admitted there. Almost everyone knew him, from the doctors to the nurses, even the patients.
