Calm Water
As I finally let out the pain my screams slowed down to just whimpers. My body curled up into a fetal position as searing pain throbbed through my body.
"Kasey!!" I heard him call for me but I could only see the flames of anger and hate. "Kasey stop!! You have to stop!" I felt a hand on my shoulder as I looked up and met the orange eyes of fire. Eyes of pain and anguish and worry. Memories flashed through my mind as I gasped for air, smoke burning my throat and lungs. My last thought was encircled by a name, Jackson. But the longer I reached for the memory, the tighter the oppression of my mind became. And before I could touch the edge of the image, the smoke curled around it and snapped at my throat.

I've been in the hospital for 3 weeks now, and apparently, I was missing for a few days before I was found. Half-dead and bloody as all hell. I sat speechless on my hospital bed as the little girl, Diana, rambled on about this ridiculous story, her grandma being a witch who put a spell on her parents. The curse only took effect when they ate broccoli. I did my best not to look skeptical, but I couldn't help but let my mind wander slightly. I slowly looked towards the door, the hospital was unusually quiet, which made me hesitate and look back at Diana. The little girl was still rambling on and didn't mind insulting me a few times just to show how more superior she was. All I could think was: "No wonder her grandma wants her to go to sleep...She never shuts up." I glanced at the clock and stopped Diana in her tracks. Her train of thought screeching to a halt. "It's really late, and I need to get some rest so I can heal up. Otherwise, how can I help you?" I smiled slightly at her. Her eyes watched me for a second with hurt and anger before switching to a happy smile.

I shivered as I looked at the strange mark. A thin black line stretched horizontally on my wrist; above the center of the line were two more, this time they were swirled at either end. The swirls were opposite to each other. A single smooth swirl on either end of each line. In the center was the outline of a diamond. I gently ran a finger over the mark, feeling a throb of power suddenly spike through my forearm. A small echo pierced through my head. That same deep, powerful voice I thought was soothing, spoke, "Every deal comes with a consequence. You have the power to protect and defend yourself. But you have to pay me back with blood." MY blood?The thought seemed to echo, and a deep chuckle seemed to respond. "No. In order to keep this power, you have to take someone's life. I felt the smaller building's roof with a sharp pain in my ankle, I started to cry out before covering my mouth. I couldn't get myself caught just yet. I looked up from where I jumped. Although I didn't jump to the ground, the fall just to the smaller portion of the building made me wish I did jump to my death. I looked at my ankle and rubbed it slightly, grimacing as I slowly stood up again. I looked around the roof. It was rather plain, the only real color is from the red bricks and the pale green door that led back into the hospital. I looked over to the electrical system.
