*LAIN*
*FIVE YEARS LATER*Ever since that fateful day, I was taken in by an organization called the dark tide. It was an organization that owned half of the assassin's around the world. It consisted of humans and supernatural beings, but the humans had no idea of our existence, and we liked it that way.It made everything much easier.I was trained to kill in cold blood without any remorse. Witnessing the deaths of my family broke me, and I had become a shell of the person I used to be.I lost my wolf, Axel five years old.Was that even possible?I shrugged carelessly as I looked at the glass of whiskey that had reached halfway.I have no idea, but ever since the day I lost everything I have never been able to summon him or transform. It made me feel like a human and much more vulnerable.Working for the dark tide is like walking on a right rope while wearing a mask, and I guess that's what made it thrilling for me.They owned our lives, and they had the power to end it whenever we failed to complete our missions. It was all about survival.Kill or be killed.“Lain?”I looked up and Drex walked in, he looked almost exhausted and worse of all, he was covered in blood.I gave him a fist bump, and he sat across me, wiping off the sweat off his forehead.“You look like shit right now” I commented, trying to get on his nerves. He chuckled wickedly, giving me the middle finger and he grabbed my glass of whiskey, gulping it in one go.I cocked a brow at him as he placed the empty glass on the table with full force, almost breaking it.“Rough night?”He nodded quietly.“Have you ever thought of walking away from all of this Lain? Like living a normal life away from the bloodshed?”He sounded very ridiculous.Once you joined the dark tide, there was no going back and no one was allowed to leave until you probably lost your life in the end.“Are you high on something right now?” I muttered while pouring myself another shot.He ran his fingers through his hair, groaning deeply and drank my shot.I could tell that Drex had reached his breaking point, and I recall having mine after killing an entire family. That kid.He looked me in the eye and begged me to spare the lives of his parents. My father had begged for his life before those damn vampires opened his throat open.I closed my eyes, releasing a shaky exhale and pulled the trigger and I saw red.I decided to pour Drex another shot.We both remained silent.“I killed a fucking kid Lain…and I would rather not do this shit anymore.”There was no time to show weakness. And the dark tide has always made sure of that.“Drex just have a goodnight sleep, and you'll feel better in the morning.”He scoffed in annoyance.“No kidding, only you'd talk about sleeping after murdering an entire country without feeling guilty!” He yelled furiously. The other assassins turned to look at our table with shock, whispering among themselves.“Don't you feel guilty?” He asked curiously as tears filled his eyes.Did I honestly feel guilty? No.My watch began beeping, alerting me that it had a new task to begin.I got on my feet and gave Drex a small smile and walked out. There was something different about tonight. I could feel it in my gut.I got inside my Bentley and began driving to the location where I was supposed to receive the instructions about my next kill. This is the same car I received on Christmas morning five years ago.It holds numerous memories for me.I'm the alpha of my father's pack, but I chose to walk away. I abandoned my people and I refused to honor my father's legacy because I was fucking scared.Furthermore, I don't want to end up like him.Two hours later, I arrived at the location and got out of the car. I went up to the rooftop of an old building and found Galen waiting for me.“Sir.”I bowed my head, and he patted me on the shoulder. Our eyes locked and Galen handed me a picture of a girl. I frowned deeply because I hated getting my hands dirty, especially if it involved women. It always brought back memories of my mother and sister.“You must eliminate target 0351” he muttered in a cold tone.I looked at the picture once more and smirked.“A redhead?”Seems easy enough, I thought to myself.“Don't underestimate her, she's no ordinary girl.”I'm guessing that she wasn't a human. There was something about her that kept me looking at her picture. That feeling made me feel conflicted, and I don't know why.I tucked it inside my coat.“When do you want her dead?”“Tonight, you have an hour to get rid of her.”Being half werewolf made it easy to almost find anyone in the city, and soon enough I managed to track down this girl. She was at a nightclub, which was going to make my job a bit complicated.I can't afford to have any witnesses.I opened the glove compartment and took out my signature dagger. It belonged to the vampire that killed my father in front of me.It was made of silver, so I had to wear gloves whenever I held it.I hid the dagger in my coat and got out of the car, heading inside the club. There was loud music and the dance floor was filled with half naked women dancing. Then I saw her.Her scent. She smiled like lilies. She was screaming, running her fingers through her fierce looking red hair.I swallowed hard and began walking towards her.I was about to stab her when our eyes locked in a frenzy and my heart gave away. And the words escaped my lips before I could stop them.“MATE!”The dagger dropped to the ground.*FREYA*He looks at me with wide eyes and drops something to the ground. When I glance down, I actually notice that it's a silver dagger glowing in the club. What the actual fuck?"Mate!" he yells while staring at me, adding more discomfort.I chuckled awkwardly."I'm sorry, are you Australian or something?" I asked curiously while eyeing him up and down. Before he can reply, a gunshot echoes spiking up my adrenaline as the club is filled with screams and people start running for their lives.Someone pushes me and this tall dark stranger holds me in his arms, taking me by surprise."Shit," he muttered quietly while looking around the club.I'm too buzzed to even care what he's talking about, and the chaos is making me feel a bit sick to my stomach.I let out a scream when he grabs me effortlessly and tosses me over his shoulder like I weigh nothing."Put me down!"My vision is almost blurry as he exits the back door, ushering us to safety as the bullets become more frequent and people
*LAIN*I haven't spoken to my wolf for the past five years, and when he suddenly shows up out of nowhere because of this girl, I'm left speechless. He eliminates all the bad people who wanted to hurt her and have the dark tide on my case thanks to this supposed mate connection. But I don't believe in it.Supposedly, the moon goddess paired me off with a girl. Where was she when my family was getting slaughtered by those damned vampires?Oh, right, she was busy playing matchmaker.Axel howled when he saw the girl trying to run away. And I couldn't blame him, not many humans knew about our existence, and what she saw here must be driving her crazy. My wolf ran after her and pounced on her before she got very far.“Humans are always very slow,” Axel chimed while staring into her terrified eyes.He snarled at her, and tears rolled down her cheeks. He didn't intend to make her cry.Axel got close to her, making her whimper, and she closed her eyes, crying harder. The poor girl probably tho
*DREX* I pressed the gun deeper into the boy's temple, sending him a nasty glare if he dared to blow our cover. He nodded frantically, filled with fear and licked his lips when I cocked a brow at him. The Dark Tide had decided to kidnap him as a means of tracking down Freya. His eyes widened in shock and he glared at me.A smirk curved my lips. I couldn't believe that this kid had the balls to glare at me. I'd shoot him if the Dark Tide didn't need his ass to track down Lain and Freya. The phone was on loudspeaker.“Noah, is that you?” She asked curiously.I pressed the gun deeper, and he swallowed hard, closing his eyes for a brief moment and opening them again, plastering a fake smile like he could see her.“Of course it's me, Freya,” he chipped excitedly. She sighed with relief from the other end while my team kept trying to track down her location. We only had a few minutes to do so before Lain grew suspicious.“When I saw the chaos in the club, you were the first person I though
*FREYA*I was furious when Lain snatched the phone away from me just because he was being very paranoid."I wasn't done talking to Noah, why on earth would you even hang up?" I asked, feeling irritated while he maintained his signature poker face.He shrugged carelessly and turned off my phone."The Dark Tide are trying to lure you into a fucking trap, and you stupidly fell for it. You've been on the damn phone for three minutes, and I'm sure that allowed them to enough time to have leverage on us," he ranted. He ran his fingers through his messy hair, blowing out a breath. There was something strange about this man other than turning into a badass werewolf like in the movies. It feels like there's something much darker about him, but I can't seem to figure it out.He turned to glare at me."Why are you staring at me?"I licked my lips, which suddenly felt dry, and narrowed my eyes at him."You called me your mate at the club."The word "mate" instantly made him tense, and it made me
*LAIN*When my eyes finally open, the smell of smoke fills the air, and I can't help but wonder what happened. Then it all comes back to me.Drex actually fucking shot me.I slowly get up and wince in pain when I trace where the pain is coming from, but the funny thing is that my hand isn't covered in blood like I expected it to.I had a small scar where I was shot. What the actual fuck?I can't seem to wrap my head around it.While grabbing some clothes, I realize that I haven't seen Freya since I woke up.Did Drex take her?I look around the cabin searching for her and just as I'm about to lose the little sanity I have, I see a hand behind the tree.Dread fills me, and the mere thought of seeing Freya's dead body sends me reeling. He killed her and left her here.I swallow hard and begin walking towards the tree, and when I'm finally close enough, I'm stunned to find Freya's naked body.My eyes widen in shock as I check her pulse and for injuries. She looks pretty fine.Axel growls
*LAIN*I looked around the cabin, packing a few items that we might need along the way. I had a feeling that things were about to get messy this time because I know the dark tide; when they want something, they won't stop until they get what they want.Once I had everything that we might need, I offered her my hand, and she looked at me hesitating.Didn't she trust me anymore?I cocked a brow at her."Freya?"She bit her bottom lip softly and looked away, refusing to look at me."Why didn't you let Drex take me? You don't even know me, and I don't get why you're going through the hassle."She was right.Personally, I wouldn't help her, but Axel wants her safe and sane, and I'm not in the mood for arguing with him over some hybrid human girl.I wish I could tell her that the moon goddess chose us to be mates, but I doubt she has any knowledge about that.I forced a smile."Like I said, I was sent to protect you, and trust me, I'm just doing my job."She scoffed in annoyance."You keep
*FREYA*The girl probably thought that she could intimidate me but I've had worse. She ignores me and goes straight to hug Lain just to spite me.I sighed deeply, crossing my hands over my chest. I didn't have time to play her mind games right now. What I need is to take a hot shower and finally wear clothes that actually fit me.Wearing Lain's clothes brought a lot of judgment and I could tell by how people were staring at me.I would have glared at them but I don't want to be rude. When Lain and that girl are finally done talking I'm shown to my new room by one of the women who live here. The house was filled with kids, men and women and they all lived here as a big happy family Something that I never had while growing up.The room was simple but also luxurious. Bright yellow walls and a big chandelier hanging above my head.It had everything that a girl could ever want. The woman offered me her hand."My name is Aniko."I gave her a smile as we shook hands."Freya," I muttered qui
*LAIN* Velvet wouldn't let me escape even if I wanted to. This was the part I hated about her. She always insisted on the most annoying things. She grabbed my arm while I sipped my black steaming coffee."So what's up with the deal with you and that other girl?" I turned to look at her cocking a brow and placed my mug on the kitchen island."That girl has a name and Axel recognized Freya as his mate. It's out of my control."I could see the irritation on her face."No offense Lain I know that your dad married a human but I don't think you should repeat the same mistake." I stood up.My tall frame towering over her.The fear in her eyes was evident and she closed her lips instantly.A sly smirk curved my lips."I don't want you to meddle in my personal affairs, do you get that?"Our eyes locked. As my wolf Axel challenged her to say one more thing about Freya. I might be lenient but Axel won't be this nice when he takes over. She nodded quietly and walked away.I sighed deeply. What
