Makaila couldn't skate with the sprain on her ankle. She started walking all the way home from school, though it was pretty far. Using skates, it was like thirty five minutes but on foot, It was an hour and some minutes. Her legs were killing her and there were visible bruises all over her body.
No one made a move to give her a ride, all their thoughts pointing to one direction. What if she dies in the car on the way to a hospital and the police charges them for murder?
No one was willing to take that risk.
At every step she took, pain filled her body. It felt like any minute, she would slump and pass out. She reached a road where cars weren't moving any more. Her vision became blurry and she began to stagger. She shook her head, trying to stay awake but her body was giving in to the weakness.
She felt darkness closing in and she made to fall. Suddenly, a pair of strong hands caught her. She opened her eyes slightly and saw Christian holding her. She tried pushing against him with little strength trying to get away from him.
"Let me go." She said weakly.
"You are wounded. Please let me help." He still held her.
"N...no!" She coughed slightly, small blood making it's way out of her mouth.
"You have to let me help you just this once, please. You could die here, you are in a bad shape." He tried to reason with her. "Let me take you to the hospital." He told her. She shook her head.
"No hospital, Please." She forced out, her eyes closing gradually.
"Alright, I won't take you to the hospital. I promise, I will get someone to take care of you." He told her. She didn't reply as she had blacked out.
Christian carried her bridal style, opened the door to his new car, the latest BMW and put her gently inside. He got around, went to the driver seat and drove away.
To his house.
Christian's POV
I watched as she dragged her tired and weak self out of school. I went back to the guys who were acting like nothing happened. I sat down and ate my food in silence. Bethany tried to kiss me several times but I simply told her I wasn't in the mood. She tried persuading me but I ignored her so she let it go.
Soon fifth period came and it was my last period for the day. I couldn't concentrate as Mrs Cooper was teaching. My mind kept drifting back to Makaila.
Then it came to me.
She could be in danger.
She was most likely walking alone on the road weak and tired. I shouldn't have let her go on her own. I had to fix it. I stood up suddenly and started making my way out of the class.
"Mr Hales, do you need an excuse to leave this class." She asked, a deep frown creased her fore head and I hissed under my breath.
"Uhm...Yeah." I rolled my eyes at her and walked out.
I got to the school's parking lot and went to my car. Someone called my name and I saw Nigel, my cousin and childhood friend. He wasn't like the others. He was popular but he never acted like it, spending majority of his time in the music room. He hated the kind of people I hung wit, so we stopped being so close.
"Why are you in such a rush?" He asked.
"Look, I don't have time to explain. Summary of it is, someone is in danger and I really need to find out where she is before something bad happens to her." I replied him in a rush.
"You are going to help Makaila out." Nigel smirked. I looked at him like he had grown horns on his head.
"How did you..." I began to ask.
"I saw you trying to help her in the hall way. You should hurry. Don't let me keep you." Nigel said.
"Thanks. Nigel, please don't tell the guys what I went to do." I pleaded. If the guys knew, I would have them to reckon with and I wasn't ready for their problems.
"Don't worry my lips are sealed. Call me when she's safe okay." Nigel waved and I nodded, entered the car and drove off. I started to search every where searchable for Makaila. For someone with a broken ankle she sure moves fast.
Soon enough I saw her staggering. I quickly parked my car and got down. She was falling and her head was going to hit the floor. I rushed quickly and caught her. She felt too fragile against me, like any minute she would break. She opened her weak eyes and saw me. Then she started pushing away but I held onto her.
"Let me go." She said weakly, trying to fight to be away from me.
"You are wounded. Please let me help." I pleaded, still holding her.
"N...no." She stuttered, coughing slightly and that single action caused blood out of her mouth. Shit! She was really wounded, her ribs must cracked for sure.
"You have to let me help you just this once, please. You could die here, you are in a bad shape." I tried to reason with her. "Let me take you to the hospital." I told her, making a move to lift her from the floor but she shook her head.
"No hospital, please." She pleaded, her eyes giving in to unconsciousness. I frowned at her request.
Why didn't she want the hospital?
What is she hiding?
Or is she trying not to give away Tyler and the others for almost killing her?
"Alright, I won't take you to the hospital. I promise I will get someone to take care of you." I told her but she didn't reply. I looked at her and saw she had already blacked out. I lifted her bridal style.
Jeez, she's light.
I took her into my car and started driving to my house. On the way, I called my family doctor and told him there was an emergency. My parents were hardly at home and it was kinda frustrating since the house was too big and I was lonely. Even the aids kept away from me mostly because they all thought I was just as snobbish and proud like as mum.
I told them I wanted to get an apartment of my own and they were okay with it even though my mum was a little against it. I was just like my dad. Quiet, loving and fun, mostly fun. I still wonder how he put up with mum all this years. I am still trying to get used to her. She and Bethany got along pretty well because they are of the exact same character except Bethany is way worse than she is.
Soon we got to the house. As I tried to unbuckle her seat belt, her top lifted slightly and I noticed some marks on her pale skin. Lifting the shirt up a little more I was horrified. There were a lot of dark purple scars all over her abdomen and her back.
It was different from the fresh ones she got today. These ones were scars that were left untreated. I ran my finger on one slightly and saw that her face contour in pain even as she wasn't conscious. Her action showed that even though it wasn't a new scar, it was still hurting.
Where did she get all these scars from?
I pulled her shirt back to it's normal position and carried her into my house, hoping that when she wakes up she would trust me enough to give me answers to the questions flying in my mind. I scoffed at my delusional thoughts.
Who am I kidding?
She can never trust me. Let's just hope she doesn't punch me when she finds out I brought her to my house.
Makaila's POVI woke up with a very bad headache, still oblivious about my surrounding. My body still hurt but not as bad as before. Trying to remember what happened, I looked around and widened my eyes when I noticed that I wasn't in my room. I knew that because my room wasn't this big. I was on a king sized bed and it was incredibly soft, unlike my small brick like bed at home. I noticed my sprained ankle was in a bandage and a plaster on my fore head. I got down from the bed and opened the door, looking around for someone who would explain where I was and what I was doing here exactly. The house was big, that's for sure and everything looked so luxurious and well furnished. Maybe I had finally died and gone to Heaven. I chuckled at the thought I saw a stair case and began to descend it, minding my step. When I got to the foot o
Makaila's POVI was running through a dark road . I had no idea where I was going but I just kept running. He was chasing me. He wanted to hurt me like always. I didn't see the tree stump on the ground and that made me trip. He was getting closer. I could see his shadow approaching and I could also hear his wicked laugh. He came into view. "I've got you now." He smirked. I tried to run but my leg wouldn't let me. I was trapped. I saw a figure close by. "Help! Please help me!" I called out. The figure came into view and I saw who it was."Mum?""You will never amount to anything. No one loves you. No one will ever love you. You are a curse! I hate you." She spat out. "Please mum, help me. Don't le
Makaila's POVI went back to staying at my house soon after. The last thing I wanted was for Bethany to meet me at her boyfriend's house. The ray of sun light entering the room made me wake up. I groaned as I tossed and turned on the bed. Mondays were my worse days, probably everyone's worse days. I finally turned to look at my alarm clock. My eyes nearly bulge out of their sockets. It was 8:30! Fuck! I slept past my alarm! I had less than an hour to get to school. I ran to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Then wore a casual white tee shirt, black Jeans pants and stuffed my black hoodie inside my bag. I took my sneakers in one hand and my rollers in another and started rushing down stairs. I didn't see my father in sight but I don't care. I rushed out and started to wear my rollers. I only had twenty minutes left.
Makaila's POVIt was lunch break and everyone was in the cafeteria. Nigel decided to sit with me today. It felt nice because I have never had anyone seat with me before. We were talking when the cafeteria door flew open and the clique of jocks came, Christian leading the way. All of them in their varsity jackets. I felt a tinge of familiarity. I couldn't help but feel they all wore it for a reason. They rarely wore their jackets except they were having a game that evening. I looked at Nigel with a raised eyebrow. "They are planning to do a welcome party for a new student." He clarified. That statement alone made my eyes widen in realization. "Seriously?! That awful. Christian won't let them do it, will he?" I asked. "Makaila, sometimes he doesn't have a say. I wonder if he is really a captain." Nigel sighed.
Makaila's POVFor a while, Tyler and the others stopped bullying me, mostly because Nigel was always with me. They tried to take delight in hurting Rita as well but Nigel still won't let them. If anything, they feared Nigel. He is a nice guy but whenever he means business, he means business. Christian and I didn't talk anymore. He acted like I don't exist and I did the same. Though I couldn't but feel somehow about it. Get a grip Makaila. He chose the enemy's side. Rita had no friends because people made fun of her curves, saying she was fat. Though she wasn't slim like me but I'd rather call her curvy. Nigel asked her to hang out with us and we became friends. Nigel had an unusual soft spot for Rita. I started noticing it early but I didn't give an open eye to it at first, well that was until Nigel started walking Rita to class, checking up on
Christians POVI sighed as the cold water from the shower hit my skin. I allowed it to run down my body as Itried to get the picture of what just happened out of my mind. Bethany and I just finished a second round of sex. I called her because I just couldn't get Makaila out of my mind and trust me I have tried. She just seemed to be stuck there. Calling Bethany was the only way I saw fit to get her out of my head. It didn't work. Lately, Bethany has become annoying to me in different ways. She started to seem too clingy but I didn't want to show her that her presence has begun to irritate me. I haven't stopped thinking about Makaila today or what she said to me after the cafeteria incident. What she had said that day hit a nerve and I desperately wanted to prove to her that I wasn't like the others. I wanted her to know that I was di
Christian's POVI stayed with Makaila all night, watching her. I decided I was going to skip school because I couldn't leave her all by herself. Bethany called to ask where I was. I couldn't tell her about Makaila, so I cooked up some excuse and being really dumb, she bought it. I heard a honk outside the house and got up to check who it was. I saw Nigel coming out of his car. I frowned. What the hell was he doing here? Though I told him earlier that Makaila was with me, I told him not to bother coming that I had everything under control. I opened the door and met him half way, preventing him from going in. "What are you doing here?" I asked him, my hands crossed. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "You know why I am here. I want to see Makaila." He made to move again but I stopped him. He looked surprised. "Do you mind?" He asked.
Makaila's POVI was back in school. I covered my scars the best way I could and my face had already healed. Just as usual, Nigel picked me up first and then went to pick Rita up too. We got to school, got down and minded our business. News travelled fast that Nigel and Rita were a couple which automatically meant Rita was off limits to the bullies. She even told me some of the bitchy cheerleaders were trying to get close to her. I rolled my eyes at that.Fake people. For me, I was pretty covered because Nigel was always with me as well but I was waiting for Christian to make do with his promise. I decided I wasn't going to talk to him till then, which I actually doubt he would. His "friends" have a hold on him. But inside me, I held a ray of hope that he would be able to do it.
