Chapter 129 Wait For Me In Bed

The hot water rained down on her. She closed her eyes and let her thoughts wander… She had no idea how she was supposed to keep walking down this road anymore.

It would be easy if she just gave up. Her father did not love her, her mother did not care for her. It would not be hard for her to just end all of it… Still, she did not want to give in like that!

She had yet to repay her debt to Luka. That meant she had no reason to throw in the towel.

As for that man… Jane was feeling somewhat frustrated. How long would she have to keep playing his games?

No, she could not just sit and wait for death. At first she had been hoping that he would get tired of her soon, and then he would let her go without her having to risk offending him. As for the money she needed… First things first, she needed to think of a way to get out of his sight.

She faced the mirror and looked at her reflection over and over again. After her bath, Jane had put on the clothes she had been wearing again, wasting as much time as she could in the restroom.

She did not know how much time had passed, but she guessed that it had to be at least thirty to forty minutes. If that man had not left, he would have long since yelled at her to hurry up after all that time she wasted.

However, she did not hear a single noise outside the entire time.

Her heart settled slightly and she reached out to open the door. When she looked up and casually glanced around, she instantly froze on the spot… How could this be?

That person was in front of the floor-to-ceiling window under the standing lamp. He had not left.

He sat in a leather single-seater couch, looking like the perfect gentleman, smooth and smart. Jane stood at the restroom door, unable to move a single step… because she did not want to get any closer to him. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to close the restroom door with a whoosh, putting a barrier between him and her.

In reality, though, the situation was beyond her control.

The man heard the noise she made and looked up from the book in his hands. When he glanced at her, his hawk-like eyes were extremely deep and dark, looking at her full of possessiveness.

However, his gaze only lingered on her for less than seconds before moving away.

Jane secretly heaved a sigh of relief.

All of a sudden!

There was a soft whoosh, and the man’s slender body abruptly stood up from the couch. He strode toward her, one step at a time, walking toward her perfectly calmly.

Jane could not see the look on her face, but the man could see it clearly.

If he measured the wariness in her eyes on a Richter scale, it was probably a 7.0 or 8.0 earthquake warning… Wisps of pain spread through his heart, but he managed to ignore them all, heading straight toward her.

As he approached her, she could not help but take half a step back, glaring at the man in front of her intently as though he was an invading enemy soldier. The way she looked at him… made him feel very uncomfortable.

He took another step toward her. Finally, the woman could no longer stand the unspeakable fear deep in her heart. Her expression turned nervous and panicked.

“You…”

“Are you done with your bath?” his deep voice piped up just in time.

Jane still looked at him, putting all her focus on him and her guard all the way up. “Y...Yeah.”

“You’re done, but I’m not.”

“...” The deep voice spoke in such a calm tone that Jane did not understand what he meant for a while there. After a moment, she gasped. “Oh…” Now that she understood, she almost instinctively asked, “Do you want to bathe here, Mr. Stewart?”

She frowned… What was he playing at now?

“I live here. Where else should I bathe?” The man went around Jane and took a clean bathrobe from a rack nearby before turning around and looking at the body blocking his way into the restroom. He gave the woman who was semi-consciously peeking at the room door a mild glance. “No need to look. I locked the elevator earlier, so you can’t get down. Just behave yourself and wait for me in bed.”

Her face paled with a whoosh, and she gave the man, who was currently unbuttoning his shirt, a disbelieving glare. She tightened her hands into fists by her side, but though her fists were clenched, her heart was a rollercoaster… What did he mean by that?

Her head was lowered, but her mind was a whirring hive of activity… If she begged him… No, it was not time for her to beg him yet…

“What are you standing there for? Sit on the bed and wait for me… Oh, and you aren't allowed to go to sleep.” The man’s voice was even and not really stern, but the mild command in his words made her unable to really disobey him. The final emphasis on “you aren’t allowed to go to sleep” made Jane feel especially panicky.

She hurriedly closed the restroom door. The moment she looked down, though, she saw her bare feet and finally remembered that she had left her shoes in the restroom when she was taking her bath.

She turned around again and looked at the restroom door, now tightly closed.

It did not matter if she had shoes. She hurriedly ran out of the bedroom, barefooted, and made a beeline for the elevator. She jammed her finger onto the elevator button several times, but just as he said, the doors would not mind.

Her mind was racing. He was taking a bath, so that gave her some time to maneuver. If the elevator was locked on this floor, he should have a remote or key card. She turned and went to the coffee table, the shoe cabinet, everywhere she would usually find a remote or key card.

However, it was all to no avail.

Finally, she turned and looked at the bedroom, tiny rays of warm yellow light spilling from the door… She hesitated for a moment, but eventually she gritted her teeth and returned to that bedroom.

The sound of the shower was still coming from the restroom. Jane heaved a small sigh of relief and immediately launched on her scouting mission. Right now, she only had one aim— that was to find a remote or key card.

She quickly ransacked the bedside drawers without a second thought. As she searched, she kept her ears perked, listening to the sound of gushing water from the restroom.

What she did not see was that the restroom door had silently opened at one point. The man was standing at the restroom door with his arms casually crossed in front of his chest, watching her every action.

Jane was getting desperate… Where could it be?!

“Where…? This makes no sense.” She had looked everywhere there was to look. Why could she not find anything?

“What are you looking for?” a voice said softly behind her. Jane reacted as though she had been petrified, freezing onto the spot.

The man looked at her plainly without hurrying her. After about a minute, the woman by the bed turned around, her limbs stiff and disoriented… All of a sudden, her eyes widened!

“You’re… but the water… but you… the water…” Her face was deathly pale as she pointed back and forth between the man at the restroom door and the cascading shower behind him. The shower was still going, so he should still be bathing, so why was he standing so calmly at the door? ...How long had he been watching her?

Jane did not dare to imagine when the door had been opened and when the man started standing behind her… Right now, she just felt like a joke, a plaything dancing in his palm… It seemed to be telling her that no matter what she did, she would never be able to escape his control.

That feeling was both terrifying and irritating.

“Oh… You mean the water’s still on. Didn’t I tell you? One of the restroom’s glass walls is a one-way mirror. You can look out from inside but not in from outside.”

“But I…”

“But you didn’t notice, right?” he asked the question on her mind and chuckled. “That’s probably because there’s usually a curtain over the glass. I drew it earlier.”

As he spoke, he had already returned to the restroom and turned off the shower. When he next turned back to her, he waved the key card in his hand. “Were you looking for this?”
