Chapter 14

Margot couldn't sleep.

She kept tossing and turning. She grabbed her phone again and again to stare at Curtis' photos.

Finally, at midnight, she couldn't stand it anymore and dialed Curtis' number.

He picked up after a few seconds. He was still awake.

"What is it?" His husky voice always softened when he spoke to Margot.

Huddled under her blankets, Margot was biting her arm as she choked out, "Curt, I miss you so much."

She wanted to see him and be with him. She wanted to fall asleep in his arms every night like she used to.

Curtis covered his phone and glanced at Tammy, who was still awake. "I'm going out to take a call."

Tammy immediately pretended to be blind as she yelled, "Don't go, Curt! Curt, I can't see anything. Don't leave me!"

Curtis said, "I'll just be at the doorway."

When he was out of the hospital room, he asked, "Where are you?"

Of course, Margot had heard Tammy sobbing and yelling.
