CHAPTER 4

I stepped forward. Surprised because the voice said I should look for him in the forest, the forest is wide, how did I hear his calls?

It is unlikely that he is near my current location, and I am apprehensive because the tone of his voice seems to be losing hope.

It was late at night, the surroundings were dark. I clasped my hand and quickly took the lamp inside the house. I lit it and had the courage to enter the forest.

Aside from worrying, I’m also curious at how the voice recognizes me. I'm sure I don't have a single acquaintance here, and if it was Summer I had met before it would be vague.

The voice is unrecognizable, but I’m guessing that it’s a female.

My steps are careful and quietly observing the surroundings. I will never forget the warnings I received from the people of the town. I should not let my fear take over, because I know there are not only huge trees in the forest.

And the third time I stopped again because of a carousel. Not just ordinary carcass.

Seemingly in a hurry, I was surrounded. Not just one, I can't count them. A very quiet night helped me to feel and hear them.

And soon, one by one, they appeared and surrounded me.

They all had their fangs out, grinning at the food they saw. I stayed where I was and did not move. I did not realize I was scared and tried to strengthen my shaking leg.

Wolves. It’s not just wolves. They are even bigger than me!

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I seem to have made a mistake in my decision that I will find out where the voice is coming from now. I hope I just let it slipped.

But it is too late to repent. One of the wolves could not wait and jumped at me, baring it’s fangs. I do not know what to do. Will I run? Shout for help? Either way I did nothing.

My feet were pinned to the ground and my eyes widened following every move of the big wolf that was ready to tear me apart.

But in the blink of an eye, the wolf suddenly flew away and hit a tree. Things are going so fast, I have not yet processed the situation and at the same time another wolf attacked.

I fell on the dirty ground and has nothing to do but look at the incident in front of me.

Of all the aggressive wolves there is one different. A black wolf and twice as big as the others! Unlike the opponents who just keeps attacking like an animal they are, this wolf seems to know more and is better at fighting.

No one had a chance to injure the black wolf. In the end they’re all lying in the ground and look like a puppy that bent down and backed away.

Can't believe I'm just staring at them. The black wolf growled and bared its fangs. The opponents were afraid and run while their tails were loose.

I would be thankful because they are gone but the black big wolf turned to me as it’s fang came out. Did this wolf save me so that he alone could benefit from my meat?

I wish I had run away earlier while they were still busy fighting but I felt like a fool to still admire while watching them.

I slowly stood up without taking my eyes off the big balloon. I think even if I run, this monster will still catch up with me but I’m sorry, it’s not my time yet.

The two of us stared at each other and even though it was dark I could see the color of its eyes, brown. Unlike its opponent balloons earlier whose eyes were yellow. Looks like one of them visited me yesterday.

I jumped to run, the wolf followed my every move and seemed ready to chase me.

“Sierra!”

That voice!

I turned to the source of the voice. Summer waved as he quickly ran in my direction. I glanced at the wolf and was surprised to see it was no longer there.

Summer finally got close to me wearing a serious face.

“I saw what happened earlier.” He said.

“What are you doing here?”

“That doesn’t matter. Come with me.”

Suddenly he pulled me by the arm and even though his steps were big he was still careful with the way he was holding.

I would have liked to protest but I no longer have the strength to respond. I let him pull me over to his pickup parked opposite the house.

“Where are you taking me?” I ask so that I know where we were going.

“In a safe place.” He started the engine and pushed the vehicle into the woods.

I could not understand myself because I was not even nervous for my safety. Even though I had just met Summer, I seemed to feel comfortable with him. The car runs fast and as time goes on we get farther and farther into the open forest.

A suspicion formed in my mind but I chose to remain silent and wait for what would happen next. While inside the car I could not help but think of what I had seen before.

On average, the average size of ordinary wolves is the same as that of dogs. I wonder how those wolf get that bigger because they are ten times bigger.

It is also unlikely that they eat people. I suddenly have goosebumps while thinking of it.

It took an hour and a half before the vehicle stopped. I was no longer given the opportunity to explore the place because I turned my attention to Summer who opened the door for me.

“Let’s go.”

I ignored him and jumped down. I straightened my messy hair and faced the place he had brought me.

My suspicion is that he will take me to his house in the middle of this forest. But it never occurred to me that he had companions.

Not just one house is here, but many. Houses made of wood and nipa. At first glance you can say that they are well made.

And it was not just the house that greeted me.

At the same time, people turned to our behavior. Men with bare tops, women who are busy with their chores, and children who are distracted from playing.

“Welcome to Canis Lupus, Sierra.”

Summer said before those people attacked me.
