Chapter 7: Playing with fire

Logan

For the past two days, I've been cleaning, packing, and stressing about everything! I was able to find someone else to take over my lease for the apartment. Skylar, shes a bartender that I worked with at Markus's bar. I've also talked with Markus about what happened and informed him of my two day notice of leaving. He wasn't happy about the situation, but he wasn't upset either. He was still getting paid from Rosa, Xander's advisor for helping them, even if I caused some commotion.

Skylar rolled her eyes as she bit into a sandwhich, "Would you calm down? I can hear your heartbeat a mile a minute!"

I groaned, leaning forward on the couch, "This is just too crazy. I mean, what the hell am I doing?"

Skylar walked over, popping herself down next to me, "Stop, okay? This is a one in a life time chance to rule hell!" She tossed her long blonde hair behind her shoulders, focusing her icey blue eyes on me. "Your blowning this out of portion, ya know."

I rolled my eyes at her this time, "I'm not like you, though."

She glared at me, "What's that suppose to me? Shallow?"

"No, I'm not a shadow demon. I don't control the night and I didn't grow up in a household that practiced." I said, pointing out the obvious.

She sighed, taking another bite of her sandwhich, "Look, I get it. It's going to be difficult, but you have three months to learn everything. Plussss...." She whispered to me, "if you need any help, just ask for my help. I can help with teaching you control."

I shook my head, "I have no control. It's impossible."

She shook her head this time, "I don't believe that for a minute. You won't tell me your story, or what happened, and I can see that it was very traumatizing, but everyone has control. We may just have to go about learning it a different way with you."

We both jumped at the knock on the door. I glanced at her one more time, giving her a small smile, but grabbing my dufflebag and heading to the door. Rosa had a new set of teeth of already and she looked like she wanted to sink them into me.

She gave me a fake smile, "Let's get going. We have several things to cover today and don't have time to mingle."

I sighed, "Lets get this over with."

She reached out, grabbing my upper arm, squeezing tight and there was a loud swirling sound, like a muffled dishwasher. The floor disppeared and everything around me mixed together, the colors blurring. With a thud, we both landed in a dark and deary room. There was a small fireplace burning brightly in the corner, with two chairs pointed to it. Bookcases lined the walls with thousands of old dusty books. I could smell the dust from here. I turned, staring at the beautiful intercite spirals on the walls and the flooring. It was beautiful, and for some reason, I've felt like I've seen it before, just couldn't remember where.

Rosa hissed at me, shoving me to the side, "Follow me. Xander is in a foul mood today for some reason. He wanted to speak with you once you arrived."

I snarled at her, "Don't treat me like I'm nothing."

Rosa spun around, pointing me with a glar, she sharpened her nails, "You don't give me orders! I will never look at you as Queen or his mate. Your nothing but a nuisance!"

Rage burned inside of me, "Is it because I made your teeth fall out the reason why you don't like me? Or is it because you wanted the thrown for yourself?" I yelled at her, the lights flicking around us.

Rosa snarled at me, her eyes completly going black, "I don't like you because you're just like him! Your going to get him in even more trouble with the Elders! Your a fool for thinking this can work! Both of you!"

"That's enough!" Xander's voice thundered loudly around us, making the walls shake. He appeared in the middle of us, his eyes that purple color again, almost like my fire.

Rosa went back to normal, shaking her head, "I just can't believe you would go through with this. I'm only trying to help you."

Xander growled at her, "Rosa, I warned you what would happen. Keep it to yourself, or leave. I don't need another sniffling demon around here. My brother and his mate is enough."

Rosa sighed, glancing at me, and then back to him, "Fine, but when this blows up in your face, I accept crystals as apologies." She flipped her hair and walked out.

Xander turned to me, his aura still full of rage, "The rules down here are different then the human realm. Control yourself at least somewhat."

I frowned, staring at him with shock, "Are you kidding me? I didn't even do anything. I confronted her about why she didn't like me. She's the one who started to shift!"

Xander pinched the bridge of his nose, "Rosa is hard to get along with. No one likes her, me included. No one likes Hungry Demon's though either." He sighed and gestured to the door, the rage slowly disappearing, "We need to go over a few things first before we can make this... offical."

I hestiated before walking along side of him and out the door. The hallway was extremely long and each door held some sort of old symbol on it. They were really familiar, but I still can't place them. It's going to drive me crazy. Xander walked me to a door that didn't have a symbol on it and showed me inside. It looked like an office, filled with books once again, a nice leather couch sits in the corner, a beauitful white oak desk sits near the huge windows in the back. Xander gestured to a chair that sat near his desk.

I placed my duffle bag on the couch before taking a seat in the chair. He sat on the edge of the desk, looking at me. He looked a lot different than before when he was wearing a suit. It looked like today it was just a button up black shirt, with black jeans, dress shoes, and a red cloak. His crown was different today as well. It wasn't the barely visible one, but rather an actual physical crown. The jewels sparkled everytime he moved.

He crossed his arms, sighing deeply, "First things first, I need to know your situation. I can't find you in the system."

"System?" I asked, completely confused.

He stared at me, "Yeah, the demon system. All demons have to register by 13 with the DMA. They have them in the human realm as well. Your parents should have helped you."

I looked away, "Lets say for instance... I didn't have the best childhood and parents were absent." I didn't look up at him. I couldn't meet his eyes. I felt ashamed. Demons are known for there family heritage and it's been known that if your a disgrace, you can be disowned, exiled from their own family.

Xander cleared his throat, "If your not in the system, then I need to get Samantha from DMA down here to get you registered."

Alarm bells went off in my head, "I don't know how good that will do. I don't think my kind is in the system."

Xander frowned, "I'm confused. What do you mean, your kind? Your a demon aren't you?"

I shrugged, "As far as I know, yes, but like I said, I didn't have a family. I grew up on the streets until Dr. -" I immedatiely stopped talking. I slipped up.

"Doctor?" He prompted, waiting for me to continue. He squatted down in front of me, a look of concern on his face, which... surprised me. "For this to work between us, we need to be honest with each other. I need to know your background so I can help you."

I glared at him, "I don't like being treated like I'm fragile." I closed my eyes, not wanting to see his face. "I've lived on the streets my whole life. My parents dumped me in the human foster system. I knew I was different when things would light on fire whenever I got upset. My foster parents couldn't take it anymore and one night, they kicked me out. I was 11, I think." I swallowed hard, turning away from him, "I was 14, been living on the street by myself when some doctor took notice of me. He started to follow me around and take pictures, especially whenever something would light on fire. One day, he offered me money for some medical tests. I said yes, of course. I needed the money, and what are some medical tests going to do for me?"

He held up his hand, "You said that he took pictures of you whenever things would catch fire?"

I nodded, "He later explained that was the whole reason why he took an interest in me." I sighed, "I don't know how he found me, but once he got me in his... lab, I wasn't allowed to leave." When I looked up, his eyes had gone dark, almost cold. I quickly looked away, and continued, "I was there for two years, being poked and prodded. I convinced another girl to break out with me and she... didn't make it." My chest hurt and I started to breath hard, a small purple fire caught fire to the chair next to me. I quickly patted it out. "I'm sorry. I don't like talking it. Remember when I asked you if I can be tracked down here?" He nodded, "Since I escaped, they've been tracking me down. I've ran into them several times when I stay in a place for too long. It's why I travel so often, never staying in the same place for longer than two months."

Xander sighed, "You don't have to tell me anymore, Logan." He moved to the desk and picked up his cell phone. He pressed a button on the desk phone though as he scrolled through his cell phone. A voice popped over the speaker at his desk, "What can I do for you, Sire?" Xander ended up ordering half the menu it sounded like before making a seperate call.

"I need Bridget please." A moment of listening, "Just get me Bridget, it's important." He sounded nice the first couple of times, but then he yelled, "I asked nicely for Bridget! She needs to be in my office in 5 minutes or I'll rip your throat out!" He pressed end on it and turned towards me.

"I thought you were going to call Samantha?" I asked.

He clicked his tongue, "Bridget is more discrete and doesn't judge. She's older, and a lot more... calm. She also handles anger well so if either of us lets loose on accident... she's not going to be affected by it."

I nodded and then stopped, "What's the process of getting... registered?"

He smirked, "Bridget will explain when she gets here."
