Lana’s POV
When I was sent to do the dishes, I already knew that I was in for a rough ride. His footsteps have always haunted me. I had come to recognise his sound, his scent. It always sent a shiver through me.
“Fucking scum!” he mutters as he pushes the door open.
I keep quiet, just trying to get through the dishes. I just wanted to go home.
“I knew as soon as we brought you home, I knew exactly what you were.. That thing on your neck, darkening with each moment that we got closer to home.”
I should have turned to face him. I didn’t and that was my mistake. His hands lock around my neck as he pushes me up against the counter. He slowly starts to squeeze and no matter how much I pull at his hands. My fingers did nothing.
“Why?” I choke out as the pressure continues.
There is no answer, his hands continue squeezing as I desperately gasped for air. Struggling against him, my body is weak, I cannot fight him.
“ABBY!” I just about call her name and I hear my father laughing.
“She has gone out with her mother. It’s just me and you mutt. You will never get to see our daughter again.”
Black spots form in front of my eyes and I knew I didn’t have long left. I was going to die at the hands of a human that I couldn’t stand up too. A man that had beaten me and forced himself on me at any chance he could get.
“DAD!”
He lets go of me as soon as he hears her. My body crumples to the floor as I gasp for air.
“She lost it! She started attacking me!” He starts babbling and I was afraid that Abby would believe him. No matter how much Abby and I loved one another, there were just some things she didn’t know.
Abby glances down at me but I was still trying to breathe.
“All this time, it was you!”
“What are you talking about Abby? I just had to save myself. Do you know what she is? She attacked me!”
“I thought I had to be imaging it. I thought it couldn’t be true. Why would you adopt us if you were going to beat the shit out of one of us.”
“She isn’t like us. She is one of them, she is a wolf!”
“I know exactly what she is. She is my sister and I can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner.”
Abby hurries over to me. Checking over my neck, apologising as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“We care for you Abby. We just don’t want anything to do with them. They took our jobs, they took our homes and now we have to coexist with them. The last thing I want is someone in my house that has anything to do with them. They put us in danger.”
It was what I had been trying to tell them. I didn’t want to live with wolves, the wolves were the reason I was in this mess. I just wanted to be happy.
“What are you going to do Abby?!” I watch as our fathers face becomes full of malice.
“I am getting her out of here and you will never see either of us again!” She snaps back at him, helping me to my feet.
“I can’t let her go anywhere!”
He shoves Abby away and pulls me against him. As my back hits his chest, a knife presses against my throat.
“Let her go!” Abby screams at him but keeps her eyes on mine. I knew what she was doing, she was pleading with me to shift. It would probably be the only thing that could save me right now.
Closing my eyes, the blade presses into my skin, I feel the trickle of blood making its way down my neck as I plead for my wolf to come forward. I hadn’t shifted since I was a child. The shift had only made my father hate me more. Since then, I had refused to let her out.
Opening my eyes, I see Abby staring at my father, her brown eyes laser focussed on him.
“Shift Lana!”
I feel my bones crack as my wolf finally comes forward. The force of my shift sends my father to the ground as I fall onto all fours. The white wolf that I had only seen once before, now stood over my father.
I couldn’t kill him though, even after all the shit that he had put me through. I turn to look at Abby, but she has my blade and before I know it, she stabs our father, ending his miserable life.
There was no time for me to think. I couldn’t even get the words out if I wanted to. His body drops to the floor. Bright red spilling out around him, some splashing my white fur.
“Lana?” I hear my name, but it wasn’t Abby. She was still stood over our father. My blade in her hand.
“Lana?” My name is called again. The voice was inside my head. A deep male voice, one that strangely gave me comfort. A voice that belonged to another wolf.
“Who are you?” I question back as Abby pulls me away. Begging me to follow her.
There is no response, not immediately. I started to think that I had imagined it. That the adrenaline was playing with my head.
“My name is Logan. I am your mate!”
Lana’s POVIt's been a year since the incident. The voice! Saying he is Logan and he is my mate, he never linked me again. It’s weird, but I soon pushed the thoughts out of my head as I started a new beginning.New city and new apartment and I could smell their stench before I opened my door. Why the hell did they have to smell so vile and why were there so many in my apartment block? This was not what I had signed up for when I moved here.“Shitty wolves!” I mutter to myself.Knocking back some painkillers. I quickly guzzle some water in the hopes that it would prevent a headache from starting. It already felt like it was going to be a long day and I hadn’t even left my apartment.Groaning, I grab my bag and lock the door. Quickly making my way to the elevator. Hoping and praying that I wouldn’t bump into one of them. The last thing I needed is to stink like a wolf all day. It was bad enough it took me hours to get the stench off me last night, it’s like it just clings to me. Yet I n
Logan’s POV“I have a meeting and you're telling me this now!” I was already so angry with my father.“I didn’t want to worry you but…”“But what?”“I can’t link them either.” “Why didn’t you tell me? They are my sisters too!” I lean against his desk, the one that would be mine soon as he chucks another drink back his throat.“I didn’t want to worry you Logan.”“Are you serious? There is someone out there that has been killing wolves for the last two years and you expect me not to worry! How long?””“I’m sure they are fine.”“How long?” I repeat my question, getting more and more frustrated. He was expecting me to be some great Alpha when I take over and yet he wasn’t telling me everything.“Five days.” He groans, shaking his head.“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”“They are sixteen, you know what you were like at that age. You were the one who turned my hair grey!” He wasn’t wrong, I looked up to the grey flecks of hair running through his once dark hair. I hadn’t exactly been a gold
Lana’s POVAbby stays with me until we pull up in front of the large hotel. There must easily be five hundred rooms in this place. Everything from the outside was glass and I don’t really remember seeing this place before, but then Abby and I hadn’t been in town for long.“Wow, fancy!” Abby mutters as she climbs out the passenger door.“Yeah and I can already smell them!”“I think there must be something wrong with your nose. It’s really not that bad!” Abby shrugs her shoulders at me before wishing me luck and waving me off.My boots click clack along the marbled floor as I make my way to the front desk and ask to see Logan Lonecrown. I was just grateful that the receptionist was human. Hopefully a sign that this Logan person was too.“Ah, you must be Miss Decker. Mr Lonecrown is unavailable right now”I roll my eyes, it wasn’t the first time this meeting had been rearranged. I knew what was about to happen. She was going to give me a load of shit about making it up to me.“But Mr Set
Logan’s POVUncle Liam links me before I even make it to the training ground. Gut instinct tells me that he is about to ruin my fun!“I need you to come see me, now.” I roll my eyes, ready for the warning he was going to give me.“I’m on my way to training. ”“There is no training taking place today.” There’s worry in his tone. It wasn’t like Liam to ever be worried. He was usually so chilled.“You need to come to my house. Now!”“Fine, I am on my way!” I snap through the linkTaking a detour, I make my way to his house, where he is sat nursing a glass of whisky. His eyes flicker up to me as he kicks out a chair and tells me to sit. His brow is wrinkled as he concentrates on his glass. His frown makes him look old. Is this what Alpha life held for me?“Where are the others?”His house was normally packed with the rest of his brood, but he was here, alone.“You’re aunt has some news about the twins.”“Aunty Kendra is helping?” I was shocked because I was more powerful than her and yet
Lana’s POVI had heard him. He knew we were there. That same voice from before. It had made my body vibrate as he screamed into my head. We may have taken it too far this time. I think we have pissed off the wrong wolf. How did he know it was me and why did he choose that moment to shout at me?“Here!” Abby hands a glass of wine to me. The twins had been young, probably the youngest I had ever killed. I still hadn’t told her about the voice. I needed more information before I told her.“Why don’t you stay here tonight? There are no wolves and we can plan the next step. Plus you seem a little bothered.” She tilts her head as she watches me.“They were so young.” I mutter“It’s another step closer to the Alpha!”“It doesn’t bother you that they were practically children?”She takes a huge swig of wine and doesn’t answer my question. So I decide not to push it. Abby was older than me and she quite often knew better.“Can I at least shower?” I ask“You know where it is.” She knocks back
Logan’s POVDealing with the death of my sisters was the hardest thing that I had ever done. I had known about this hunter for some time and instead of standing up and taking charge. I listened to my parents. Believing that my father was right.Watching my parents mourn over their bodies was heartbreaking and yet I was so full of rage. I had warned Lana and when I find her, she will regret the day she tried to fuck my kind over. I didn’t care that she was my mate. I would never accept her.I see Seth standing by the trees, gesturing to me. Making my way over to him, I shake my head, now was not a good time. If there was a problem he needed to see Uncle Liam.“I know this isn’t a good time Logan, but there is something you should know.”He holds out his phone to me, a photo of Lana sat in reception in one of my hotels. If I had just looked at it quickly, I would have thought it was Aunty Kendra.“Why do you have a photo?” I snap, my anger was pretty close to the surface. I’m pretty su
Lana’s POV “Mr Norman, what are you doing here?” I quickly slip the blade up my sleeve as I stared at him in surprise. Why had he broken into my home? What reason did he have to be here? “Please, call me Seth,” he stands with a smile and hands me a glass, it was full with a brown liquid. Whisky. I’m not stupid, I wasn’t going to touch a single drop. Placing the glass down, I see him suck in his cheeks, he had put something in it! “That still doesn’t tell me why you are in my home!” His hazel eyes run over me as I stand my ground. “Please sit. I wanted to make sure you were okay. You seemed a little out of sorts.” “I’m not the one who is out of sorts. I haven’t broken into someone’s home!” I feel like I have every right to be defensive. This was my home and I had not invited him in. “You’ve been crying, anything I can help you with?” He takes a long swig of the whisky in his glass. Ignoring his comment, I ask him again. “Why are you in my home?” my fingers sat tightly around the
Logan’s POV“Where are you?” I groan into the phone. Seth had called to say things hadn’t gone as planned. That Lana had become aggressive and attacked him.“The hospital down the street from the hotel.” “I’m on my way,” hanging up, I quickly put the green contact lenses in. What the hell had she done? I didn’t think she would attack a human. It was why I had sent him.Lana’s voice had scratched at my head earlier, but I wasn’t letting her in. Contact would be on my terms not hers!Calling Aunty Kendra, I ask her to come and watch mom. Mom hadn’t been the same since the twins' death. She didn’t speak, she barely ate, everyone was worried. As soon as Aunty Kendra arrives, I leave, not telling her where I was going, just that I would be back soon. She didn't need to know that her daughter was involved.Arriving at the hospital, I could already hear Seth causing a scene. Shouting at the nurses that were trying to help him. Following the shouts, I find him thrashing about on his bed. Blo
