Chapter 3

Audrey stared at Keith unable to believe her ears "Keith what are you doing?" she grinned, but Keith was less interested in whatever she was saying.

He had his eyes fixed on Lindsey eagerly waiting for her reply.

"Me?" Lindsey asked pointing to herself.

"I can't, I'm really sorry, but I can't fit into your bride's shoe" Lindsey declined, letting out a weird laugh.

"Yeah, that's right, she's just a local event planner and your mum won't even approve of it" Audrey chipped in.

"How about 20,000 USD, do you now fit into her shoes?" Keith asked.

Lindsey gulped down, the money could really come in handy, she glanced at Audrey and meet her staring deeply at her.

Audrey’s stare made Lindsey cringe, she wouldn't understand the exact reason Audrey was staring deeply at her but she know it wasn't good at all.

"I'm just an event planner and journalist so I can't_" Lindsey was saying when Audrey cut in.

"Don't pretend as if you don't want the offer" Audrey began making Lindsey glance at her.

"Keith is every woman's dream and I believe you are not an exception so grab the offer, while it's still available" Audrey snapped.

Lindsey stared from her to Keith, yeah no doubt, Keith was rich, handsome and a total spec but he wasn't crushing on him like Audrey was making it look.

"$50,000" Keith was getting impatient, the ceremony already began and soon it will get to the part of him introducing and engaging his fiance.

"Fine, but I'm doing it for the money and not because of any sort of crush" Lindsey stared at Audrey.

"Yeah right," Audrey rolled her eyes.

Georgina sat uncomfortably not knowing what to do, "She's not answering," Thalia said looking at her phone.

Georgina turned to stare at Sophia’s parents, they appeared not to be aware that their daughter was missing.

"What are we going to do mother?, we can't possibly cancel the event," Thalia said.

"Gosh, I should have gone for a better family, with a good reputation to protect not a good-for-nothing family like the hales" Georgina lamented but it was already too late to change the past.

"Should I_" Thalia stopped staring at Keith who walked into the podium looking lavishly, beside him was a woman wearing a white long dress, her black hair was packed in a Disney princess style.

The guests all stood up clapping while the paparazzi rushed towards the podium to get a clear picture of Keith and his bride.

"Who is that?" Georgina asked, her eyes meeting with Sophia’s mum, Mrs. Hales who gave her a ‘what's going on here kind of look’.

"I don't know but she's saving the day, I think we should just let everything flow, and then after the event, who would figure out who she is" Thalia suggested feeling relieved.

Georgina nodded her head, but Mrs. Hales wasn't finding the whole thing funny as she walked up to Georgina clutching her bag tightly.

"Can we talk about this later, or maybe in a more private place, the paparazzi are here and our family can't afford a scandal now" Georgina pleaded not allowing Mrs. Hales to talk.

"I don't care about your family Georgina," Mrs. Hales said addressing her by her first name which was disrespectful.

Georgina stared at her and called security to walk her out quietly but Mrs. Hales started creating a fuss, drawing a lot of attention to them.

"Who is that lunatic?"

"I thought this was a closed event, who let her in?"

"I haven't seen her face before, whose wife is she?"

"The Winslow family do have a lot up their sleeves"

Those were the murmur coming from the guests as they watched the security guard drag, Mrs. Hales, out, Mr. Hales, on the other hand, walked out respectively immediately after Keith came out with a different lady who wasn't his daughter.

Audrey watched with keen interest as a smile sprayed through her lips.

"I'm so sorry for that, Can we please continue the event?" Georgina asked smiling.

She was going to meet the Hales family later, but for now, she needs to save her family from shame.

The events continued and Lindsey officially became Keith's fiance, The press was particularly interested in knowing more about her but the Winslow family turned down all interview requests and the party ended earlier than speculated.

Lindsey woke up to her buzzing phone the following morning, she mumbled covering her head with the pillow but that wasn't enough to reduce the noise.

"Hello" She answered the call without looking at the caller ID.

"So much for an event planner huh?" Katherine her step mum sneered.

Lindsey lowered the phone to look at the caller ID and rolled her eyes.

"Good Morning"

'So, why didn't you inform any member of the family that you were getting engaged, I spoke to you yesterday Lindsey and you didn't mention anything to me," Katherine said.

"Wait, how did you_"

"The internet, of course, I received a thousand calls asking if it was true and why I wasn't at the party" Katherine replied even before Lindsey could finish her statement.

"Which internet?" She ended the call immediately.

She wasn't feeling sleepy anymore, she smirked seeing the number of missed calls she had.

She ignored it and logged into her I*******m account.

The first picture she saw was that of her and Keith, same goes for the next pictures she saw. "Oh no"

After the whole party the previous night, Lindsey and Keith had explained everything that happened to Georgina, who in return promised Lindsey that they were going to buy off the paparazzi and make sure no pictures get out.

Lindsey went to her profile and was dazed at the number of followers she got.

"Nine hundred thousand+ followers" she yelled,

She couldn't believe her eyes, it was barely twenty-four hours and her followers already increased from eighty-four to nine hundred thousand+.

The last picture she posted got more than a thousand likes and congratulatory comments plus a few bad comments.

A message notification popped up, Lindsey clicked it open, the message was from Leen, her best friend, ‘So much for friendship Lindsey, you only know I'm your friend when things go downhill and now you are getting engaged, you didn't even care to invite me, Good for you but I'm not sending a congratulatory message to you’

"Gosh, I really have a lot of explanation to do" Lindsey breathed out.

"The Winslow family couldn't even keep their promise, I just hope they pay my money" Lindsey said as she replied to Leen's text.

Her phone buzzed again, it was her mum calling.

"Hi, Young Mrs. Winslow" Angela was the first to speak.

"Don't call me that"

"Why darling?"

"Because I'm not Mrs . Winslow, Angela, and why are you suddenly calling me, the last I checked you blocked me and told me not to contact you ever again, I'm correct?"

"You don't need to be harsh about it, Don't I have the right to congratulate my daughter, Oh Lindsey, I knew you had high taste in men, Good catch" Angela smiled.

"Angela, I don't know what you've heard or seen but sorry to be a show spoiler because is going on, I agree to that crap because of the debt you incurred on me so don't even try_"

"You haven't paid that up, well you don't need to worry, I mean you have Keith and he_"

"Shut it Angela, which part of, nothing is going, don't you understand huh, please stop calling me, I have a lot of things to deal with" Lindsey ended the call.

It wasn't even up to a minute after, her phone began to ring again, Lindsey yelled and quickly switched off her phone before tossing it aside.

She laid down covering herself up with the duvet thinking of what next to do but she couldn't think of anything.

Lindsey had longed wanted to get public attention, be a popular actress, stand in front of the camera, get lots of followers, and all that but now she was exhausted.

This wasn't the way she imagined it and she didn't know the kind of explanation to give to her family and friends, for not inviting them to an engagement party that wasn't even hers.

The knock on the door interrupted her, Lindsey got up slid into her flipflop and headed downstairs.

The knock increased making Lindsey anxious, she peeped through the door hole before opening the door.

"I got your text," Leen said walking into the house.

"You are lucky the reporters don't know your house address yet, you would have seen a lot of them here"

"Yeah, thanks to the fact, I don't post with location" Lindsey replied grabbing a bottle of water, she gulped everything down while Leen looked at her.

"How much did he offer?"

"$50,000, you don't expect me to say no to such an offer"

"Judging from your debt issues, I don't, that's a lot of money," Leen said.

"Have any of them called you this morning?"

"I got a couple of missed calls, but I didn't check whom they were from, almost everyone was calling, my step-siblings, my step mum, my enemies, even Angela called me, so I had to switch off my phone"

"Your mum?"

"Yeah, which was very strange, she's not even in New York so how did she know, it's as if she's keeping tabs on me"

Leen burst into laughter "The internet is worldwide Lindsey, besides she's your mum so it's normal for her to keep tabs on you" Leen said.

"Where's the ring thou?, it must be expensive, show me pleaseeee"

"I returned it, I'm not his fiance so why keep it"

"Oh, that's true, but I think you should switch off your phone and_"

They both looked towards the door and then looked at themselves.

"Are you expecting someone?" Leen whispered.

"No, I think is the reporters, they must have followed you, " Lindsey said.

"I know you are in there Ms. Ro ach, your car is right here".

"Keith?"
