Chapter 4 Leave With Me

Nadia finally understood that the Clark family considered her a huge pain.

It was no wonder that Zeke and Sarah had stopped her treatment after she had been in a car accident. Her leg could have been healed, but she had been left crippled because of their decision.

It turned out that she was just a burden to them.

Since Nadia was a disabled person, even if she wanted to leave the Clark family, she might not be able to survive in the outside world. She couldn't help but lament her predicament.

As she was feeling hopeless and miserable, someone's soft hand held her hands. She turned to look at the person.

Even with thick makeup on, Lana's bright, beautiful eyes still shone through. Anyone who looked into her eyes would feel as if all their worries had disappeared.

"Aunt Nadia, leave with me," said Lana.

Lana had to repay the kindness Nadia had shown her.

She would never forget the most difficult few years she had lived through with the Clark family. Nadia was the one who had protected her over and over again back then.

She had only stayed alive thanks to Nadia. That was the only reason Lana had had the chance to get sent to the countryside and be fostered there.

Lana knew the Clark family's deep-rooted flaws all too well. It wasn't a surprise that Nadia was suffering so much in this family after Vesper passed away.

That was why Lana had returned to this house. She wanted to take Nadia away from here.

Meanwhile, the Clarks were stunned.

Lana was just a useless brat. But now she wanted to take Nadia away?

She wasn't even overestimating her abilities anymore. She was simply too naive.

Jennifer, Nelson, and Sarah burst out laughing. Zeke glanced at Lana as well, which hardly ever happened.

"Just hurry up and leave if you want to do it. Stop bothering others," said Sarah.

The Clark family was sure that Nadia wouldn't dare to leave.

After all, who else would take in a crippled person besides their family?

Sarah was feeling extremely smug and looked at Nadia. "Nadia, don't blame me for being blunt. If you dare to walk out the door today, you'll never be able to come back."

Zeke warned Nadia as well. "Clark Residence isn't a place for you to come and go as you please."

Hearing that, Lana began to doubt if Nadia would leave with her. Zeke and Sarah were clearly intimidating Nadia, and the latter had always been timid.

But Nadia suddenly held Lana's hand. Nadia looked at her sincerely and said, "Lana, I'll go with you."

For some reason, Nadia had seen hope in Lana's firm gaze earlier.

Nadia was still young. She didn't want to live like a lowly person every day. She wanted to live a good life for herself.

Lana held her hand tightly. "Aunt Nadia, I promise that this will be the best decision you've ever made in your life."

The Clarks couldn't wait for the two of them to get the hell out. They were not a recycling center that was meant to collect trash like them.

"Mom, do you think these two will really leave our family?" Nelson asked.

Sarah sneered. Her eyes were brimming with arrogance. "Both of them are useless. I dare say that they'll come crawling back to us, begging us to take them in in less than two days."

What? Lana was still going to return? There was no way Nelson would let that happen.

In Zanteles, adopted daughters had the right to their adoptive family's inheritance.

Nelson was the only son of the Clark family, the rightful heir. At best, he could accept his family giving his two sisters a grand wedding when they got married.

If Lana also wanted to have a share of the pie, she could dream on.

Nelson immediately ran upstairs. He grabbed a document from his room and threw it at Lana. "You can leave if you want. But you have to sign this document."

Lana's guard was up. She glanced at it and asked, "What's this?"

"This document states that you're going to give up your right to inherit anything from our family."

Lana sneered. He had already prepared this document long ago. He must have been dying for her to leave as soon as possible.

Lana threw the document back to Nelson and said indifferently, "Just file for an annulment of adoption. I don't want to have anything to do with this family anymore."

This place had never been her home to begin in. Lana couldn't care less about staying here.

The Clarks were delighted when they heard that.

They had wanted to annul the adoption ages ago. However, they were too afraid that it would cause them trouble and embarrassment in society.

Since Lana had brought it up, they weren't going to hold themselves back anymore.

Sarah curled her lips in disdain as she watched Lana and Nadia leave calmly. "You're just putting on an act. I'll wait for you to come back and beg us on your knees to take you in."

The Clarks were overjoyed that Lana and Nadia had left. Carol was the only one who frowned a little as she watched them leave.

Lana seemed to have changed. It wasn't easy to control her anymore, and that felt terrible.

Nadia let out a deep sigh after walking out of Clark Residence.

She felt like a crushing weight on her chest had instantly lifted. She even felt like the air was fresher now.

Yet Nadia had recklessly left the Clark family with Lana. At first, she thought that they would have a hard life ahead of them.

To her surprise, she found that a young woman like Lana, who had just turned 21 years old, was actually capable of getting her life in order.

First, Lana took Nadia and rented a basement room. Then, she bought some daily necessities. She also turned the old room into a cozy space by decorating it.

Afterward, she made a simple mushroom pasta. "Aunt Nadia, our living conditions are basic. I hope you won't be turned off by it."

"Why would I?" Nada happily ate the food.

"Mushroom pasta had never tasted so good to me."

Nadia had been forced to walk on eggshells in Clark Residence. Compared to that, she preferred simple, albeit somewhat harsh, living conditions much more.

Lana smiled when she saw that Nadia was genuinely happy. "Don't worry, Aunt Nadia. I won't let you stay in a basement room forever."

Lana was born to spread her wings. How could she be trapped in a small cage?

But Nadia didn't take Lana's promise to heart. In her opinion, being able to escape the Clark family was already a blessing.

"Lana, I think things are great now," she said.

Was it great? Lana didn't think so, but she didn't argue with Nadia.

Nadia had had a very long day. After finishing her food, she fell asleep on the couch.

Just as Lana was preparing to put a blanket on her, she suddenly saw her crippled left leg.

Lana carefully checked Nadia's leg. She let out a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, Nadia's leg could recover.

After she tucked Nadia in, Lana left with a box in hand.

Lana hadn't taken a single cent from Liam during the divorce. After all, they were each just getting what they needed. Lana wasn't one to be greedy for things that didn't belong to her.

Hence, she could only afford to rent the worst basement room. There was no private bathroom in her room either. They would have to use the shared bathroom if they wanted to relieve themselves or take a shower.

At that moment, the bathroom was packed. After a long day, everyone seemed to want to freshen up with a hot shower.

Lana's appearance disturbed the peace in the bathroom.

She had a pale foundation, crazy smokey eyeshadow, and pink hair. Her clothes also stood out. She was wearing a pink T-shirt and fishnet stockings.

A peal of manic screams immediately filled the bathroom as soon as the women inside saw Lana. The sound of things falling all over added to the commotion.

The women, who had been taking a shower earlier, came running out, looking like a mess. Some of them hadn't even put on their clothes properly.

"What's the matter?"

"What happened to you?"

Their families and other curious people came rushing over as soon as they heard the commotion. They surrounded one of the women and broke out into a lively discussion.

"A crazy woman is inside."

"She's so scary. She doesn't look like someone you can mess with. She might even hurt someone."

People who were out of their minds couldn't be held liable for their actions in this day and age.

The people who were staying there were already down on their luck. No one wanted to test their luck further.

The crowd calmed the women down. After that, some of the brave ones grabbed a weapon to defend themselves. They planned to enter the bathroom.

At that moment, they heard the sound of footsteps coming from the bathroom.
